Title: Command Zone
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
The Command Zone features Brunswick's new N-Control Reactive Powerstock.
N-Control Powerstock represents a significant advancement in reactive
coverstock technology. The ball reacts similar to the Control Zone through
the front part of the lane but is significantly stronger in the mid-lane and
back end. N-Control Powerstock is much cleaner through the front part of the
lane than PowrKoil coverstocks while at the same time significantly stronger
with a higher overall hook potential. The specifications are: Color: Plum
Pearl; Coverstock: N-Control Reactive Powerstock; Surface Factory Finish:
Shiny; Available Weights: 10-16 (including 11 ½); Part Number: 60-103044;
Hook Potential: 19.5-11.5; Typical Length: 4.5; Typical Backend: 12; RG
Maximum: 2.599; RG Minimum: 2.547; RG Differential: 0.052; Average RG: 5.0;
Track Flare Potential: 10.

Best Reactive Zone to date, this one floats through the heads and has a great flip. Not like the early roll of the other Zones this one has an easy push to the right and hits better than a proactive. I drilled it up with the # 2 (standard Pro Shop layout)and loved the results, I oil 40' 5-5 with Kegel's Defense S and this ball ate the lanes up.

10+ for the Brunswick Team on this one, I don't know what you did when you made the Control Zone but you corrected everything with this one.

It's nice to see that Brunswick has released some medium to high RG bowling balls over the past few months, and the Command Zone is one such ball.  Drilled with the pin 3 3/8" from the PAP and the CG within the grip area, this baby gets through the heads clean, especially on synthetics when they break down, with good length, a hard snap, and a powerful hit in the hole.  It's a definite improvement over the Control Zone; the finest reactive thus far by Brunswick.  My best scores (to date) with this ball are a 290 game and a 720 series.

I have to say that I am not a big Brunswick fan, but I decided to try

this one because it seemed to be different than any other Zone. This

is a very long Zone and has a good midlane roll. I found that by

polishing this ball it can be devastating on drier lanes because of

the added length. I have had good success with this ball with a 774

series the second time out with the ball. If your a big Zone fan I

recommend this ball, but if you have never thrown a Zone this would

be a good one to try as your first Zone.

The Command Zone is the BEST Reactive Zone since the Red Alert!  It works on heavy oil to light oil conditions as long as there are some back ends.  The carry power on this ball is awesome, and ranks right up there with the Red Alert on hitting power.  I have mine drilled in a leverage pattern with the pin right of the ring finger and slightly above with the CG kicked out towards the axis at a 10:30 pattern.  The pin is about two inches.  This is an early rolling pattern and is one of my favorite patterns because of its predictability and carry.  This ball is really fun to bowl with if you keep it light...just hit light and watch the pins scatter!  I have not seen so many positive reviews of a ball and they all are right on about this awesome Zone.  It is a good compliment to the Red Alert and Command Zone Arc.  I have thrown both of the Matrix Trimax balls, and they don't even come close to the versatility of the Command Zone.  Both are good balls, but the Command is superior in every way!  The Command Zone also takes to shining/polishing very well.  Some Renew-It or Clean N'Polish shines this Zone up very easily and leaves it with almost a glass-like polish.

The Command gets through the heads clean, starts its roll in the mid-lane and has a strong predictable arc into the pocket that is suprisingly controlable.  A very versatile ball that I recommend for ALL bowling styles!  Do yourself a favor and pick up a Command Zone....you won't be sorry!

I purchased a second Command Zone (first review was 2/22/00) with a 5" X 5" drilling like my HPD (pin above ring finger, CG just below ring finger).  I liked what I saw the second time around:  LONG skid, HUGE snap, yet predictable!  Last Wednesday I won $112 in jackpot with this ball, and I was impressed with the skid/snap reaction I was getting, even when the shot broke down (NOTE: This was a house shot, a "tophat" pattern).  On a few occasions, my skid nearly covered the entire width of the lane (maybe 30-35 boards) and still recovered strong into the pocket!  It's too bad I didn't use this drilling on my first ball.  Oh well, it paid off... as you can see!

I have this ball drilled with the pin up over the fingers with a hole punched in the side. To create good length with a decent backend. This is a very good ball I really like it. It hits real well and it is the first ball out of the bag for me. I throw the ball down and in with foward roll medium speed.

Command Zone

Bowler style:  Cranker (High Rev, Med spd)
Pin: 4" pinout
Drill:  5" from PAP
Lane: 35-40ft single oiling (buffed backend)
Rate: 9/10

This is one hell of a reactive ball. It goes through the heads and pines really cleanly skidding like it wont come back then bamm, it hits hard into the pocket.

Plenty of length out of the box, even more so if polished/shined up. It has a stong backend and will not over react in patchy lane conditions.

A GREAT ball regardless of your playing style, easy to use and definetly a must buy due to its great combination of control and aggresiveness.

  Cheers,
  DLJ

Check my profile for specs.
My Command Zone is drilled label leveraged, and has had many surfaces on it.
My biggest complaint about this ball, is that I didn't ever know what the ball was going to do.  One time it would skid-snap, and the next it would roll early and quit.  I just never really knew when to throw the ball.  I tried every surface i could think of, polished, gloss, sanded, medium, scuffed polished.  I tried it all w/ the same results either no hook or inconsistent hook.  I could never carry the corners w/ this ball either.  I know a lot of people believe that this ball was great, I unfortunately think there are better balls out there. Good luck and good kegeling to all. 5.5/10.

Received this suppossedly 15lb ball from one of our fellow members on this forum and it weighed out to 15lbs 12 ounces!!  Was considering a change to 16
and I picked it up cheap so here goes.

Drilled this 2 1/2 inch pin out and 2 3/4 ounce top weight ball the following way.  Pin at 4 and CG straight down.  This left the pin right next to my ring finger and the CG at 3 3/4 on the grip midline.  Final wights 1 1/4 top weight
3/4 side.

This ball which had been shined up by my pro shop operator,( I'd asked for box)
was not long for a pearl.  This ball moved very even down the lane and reminded me of many of my solids.  In fact the closest reaction to it I have in a ball is my Nighthawk solid, but this ball has a slightly more symmetric or even backend.  It also reminds me of my pro zone violet with slightly more backend.
This is a strong core and may be stronger than my command zone arc for some reason.  (Maybe my ball speed is slightly softer with this near 16 lb vs my usual 15).  Someone had once compared this ball to the battle zone bullett but the bullett due to a high RG core is 10 feet longer!!

Big hitter but this may also be the 16lb.

Will bowl soon with it in league and I'll report back then.  Final thoughts,
This is a strong heavy rolling core with a pearl wrapper.

Luckylefty

Best pearl ball this bowler has ever used.  Lt-48 gold pearl a close second.
Had a 3-4 in. pin with around 3oz top weight.  Drilled it pin over ring finger with CG slightly right, no weight hole.  Good length with great smooth arcing backend.  Pin crushing hit and splendid carry.  Ball was used on wide variety of conditions with excellent results.  I will post my profile in near future as reference for those interested.  Good bowling to all.

Had once purchased this ball as a 16(unitentional) and used it.
Drilled that one  4 X 4 and that pearl was a little early and wanted to be high in the pocket. (I might have been slower).

Got this one from Drillwizard and it was the 15 it was supposed to be!
Drilled this 2 1/2 inch pin out ball 4 X 5.  This seemed to make this ball a completely different animal.  About 4 feet longer to the breakpoint with a smooth backend that really seems to mix them up and want to hold in the pocket if a little high.  The N Control Coverstock is so clean (most people cannot believe this about Brunswick but it is true!) and smooth versus the quick snapping powerkoil 18 that they are completely different animals.  Both are great but for different expected reactions.

In comparison to other balls I've reviewed and love.

This ball is similar in length but not backend strength to the Rebel ECX I rave about(both N Control this pearl that solid).  This ball also purchased from a righty is just getiing it's left hand track which usually strengthens them somewhat for me over a few days.  this ball also appears like most symmetrics as though it can be played from many lines. This ball is earlier than a battle zone bullet and covers fewer boards in the back if dry is found.

Compared to the Demolition Zone the feistiest medium oil reactive in the game today, this ball is about 6 boards weaker.  Demo standing 29 throwing 16 out to 9.  This ball standing 26 throwing 13 out to 8.

I'm anxious to get that little track that all my pearls need to get them to maximum effectiveness.  Also thanks to Drillwizard who I've bought balls from before but never had drill one till now.  (My thumb fit one of his previous thumbholes perfect so I had him drill one with my pitches, love it!!).

Went on a practice session tear.  In the first 30 balls 3 or 4  6 baggers and 7 baggers.  probably had about 35 strikes out of the first 45 balls.(They told me there was out of bounds??)

Luckylefty
PS Very similar to the purple fuze but for me maybe a little more forgiving.
PSS Try to find one - difficult!

I am a 16 year old youth bowler with an average around 200. The Command Zone helped me a great deal to get to this mark.  I throw medium speed and medium revs. I usuall throw this ball starting at about 20 out to 6.  This ball is ver controllable on all conditions except extreme heavy long oil patterns.

This is a must for anyone who enjoys consistantcy on almost all conditions.

Very good consistant ball for medium lanes.True backend and basically carries anything in the 1-3.10 out of 10.

This ball eats up the oil quick. It claims to be a skid/snap ball, but the way it is set up for me, it revs up very fast. Heavy cranker here, great for oil, hates dry. Pins FLY, wrap 10 pins have a tendency to be hit by the 6 pin pitched from the back cushion.

Had one of these for about a year and a half.. the core had cracked and it had belt marks on it, but it was still a favorite.. then i found a brand new one.. for 75 bucks. This ball is everything i remember it to be. strong. hits hard. gets long. carry is amazing with this ball, and that sharp distinct motion to the pocket is what i love about this ball.. they should re-release it.

Review #3 (albeit nine years later!)

I was fortunate enough to find a lefty-drilled, fifteen-pound Command Zone on the house rack at my local center.  The coverstock had one major nick in its hide, but after a good resurfacing and finishing (4000 Abralon and polished by hand), this ten-year-old relic looked good as new.

I have never used a negative-weighted ball before.  I decided not to plug the holes the pin was over lefty middle finger (ring finger for righty), and the CG was 3/4" left of grip center with no X-hole.  This setup enables the ball to roll early with an arcing backend motion.

At first, I was not impressed with what I saw.  In its 1999 heyday, the Command Zone was the highest skid-snap ball Brunswick ever made, and initially, that was the reaction I was getting today in 2009.  After feeling out the ball and increasing my speed on the approach, the Command Zone was pure gold!  On the open shot with broken heads, I could hug the middle without the snap of which this particular Zone is known.  In my final game of league play, I rolled 279, as a 4-pin in the eighth frame (due to laying off the speed and snapping a bit high) cost me a perfecto!

I have now used three different Command Zones over the years:  one label leverage, one pin-up positive, and one pin-up negative.  I guess you could say that I have taken good command of this Zone!
