Following the success of the Hero Pearl, Brunswick is introducing the Hero Solid. The solid version of this ball is better paired with more oil than the pearl. The versatility of this ball makes it a good benchmark bowling ball for a wide range of bowlers. The Brunswick Hero utilizes Brunswicks Durability Optimization Technology (DOT). This technology by Brunswick was developed to reduce the chance of cracking by enhancing the ball's durability. The Activator Plus 2.0 Solid coverstock and Contra core pair up to give this ball an all-purpose ball reaction that is great for all types of players.

Color: Black/Pink/Purple

Volume: 23 ish

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): ths

Likes: The Brunswick Hero Solid out of box read the lane a little early for my style of bowling. For bowlers with a low rev rate or high speed or low tilt this ball will be just fine the way it is out of box. I was able to dial it in for me by shining up the surface to add a little length and save a little more energy for down lane. Now I really like the way this ball shapes. It has a strong controlled motion that hits hard. All bowlers are different and sometimes a little surface tweaking can make all the difference.

Likes: My first impressions of this ball were that it had a really good midlane roll, and a decent amount of recovery for the amount of midlane, but that may have been more a characteristic of the house shot than the ball. For those of you in a similar position to myself, having used Storm for forever, but transitioning to Brunswick, but this ball instantly reminded me of a Phaze II.

Dislikes:I can see this ball needing to be prepped at lower surfaces as the cover really settles in, but that will take time to know.

I went 40x4.5x55 (pin in ring) on the Hero Solid with the intention of having a control ball to go below my Method solid and to attack the short pattern in our challenge league.

The Hero Solid was very easy to get lined up with.  I used it for the first 2 games on 37' Broadway and so long as I didn't give it any extra fingers while the back ends were still fresh I was all over the pocket.  The Hero Solid is a good match up on short as it is dull enough to roll up off the dry boards, yet calm enough down the lane to give me a little bit of forgiveness when I execute marginal shot (in my case that is usually a 2 board pull or a spinny release).

I was able to shoot a little video on the Hero Solid along with the Zenith on 42' Stone Street (our house pattern).  The pair had about 30 minutes of wear by myself, a no thumber and a soft speed stroker so I would expect this to be comparable to how game 2 would be in league.  The Hero Solid once again made finding and controlling the pocket easy.  The closer I got to the track, the better I carried as the ball would not jump off of the dry boards.  Shots inside of target still tractioned a little bit but held line to give me some decent carry in the pocket.

Compared to other balls in my bag, the Hero Solid is a step weaker than my Method Solid yet stronger than my Cutting Edge Hybrid.  I wish I still had my Vintage Danger Zone as it would have likely been even closer to the Hero Solid than the 2 aforementioned balls.

I recommend the Hero Solid for moderate to high rev players looking for a ball for to stay more parallel to the lane when straighter is greater.  This is the type of ball reaction which may not look impressive in an edited ball video (I will admit to editing out a 1-2-4 where I missed an arrow right) as it does not hook or flip the most but will provide a high pocket % with enough control for the bowler to make slight tweaks necessary to have a high carry %.

COMMENTS

The Brunswick Hero solid is a outstanding symmetrical ball that complements the original Hero.  The Solid reads the midlane about 3 feet sooner and has a strong continuation arcing motion in the backend.  I drilled mine exactly like my original Hero and both balls are literally a great 1-2 punch combo for leagues and tournaments

Likes:The Hero Solid is definitely the og Hero's big brother! As the first Hero that came out it has been my go to ball. But now that the Solid is here all I can say is WOW! When you need that extra hook for heavy oil conditions or just need more overall, then this ball is for you. Fantastic looking ball with great shelf appeal. The Solid for me is about 5 boards stronger and a couple feet sooner then the original and with it's dull surface out of the box it's best on the fresh and continues without an overly sharp motion on the backend. The Hero Solid and original are a great 1-2 punch!

In a previous review, I referenced how the original Hero was like a Fearless on steroids. Take that same ball and put a solid cover on it and you’ve got something great here if you liked the shape of the original Hero.

This ball may be a bit much for typical house patterns. If you find that’s the case, hit is with a 3000 or 4000 Abralon or Siaair pad to just help the ball get through the front a bit cleaner. This ball does have a tendency to start up earlier. You will see this ball get into a roll quick. Players with more ball speed will not have a problem getting this ball through the fronts. Medium rev players will like this ball because it will allow you to keep the ball in front of you on flatter patterns without sacrificing backend reaction. This ball is a must in my bag.

Likes: The Hero Solid flies under the radar versus many with higher price tags. The overall motion is perfect with decent length and a great move towards the pins. Mine is pin up at about 4.5" from PAP.  Carry is excellent!  When my asymmetric balls start leaving the corner pins, this one destroys them!

Dislikes: Nothing
