Nexus Æ’(P+F) Solid
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
High Performance
Core Type : Nexus Rotor (14-16#)
Coverstock: Addaptive ƒ(P+F) Solid
Color: 2-Color, Blue and Violet Solid
Factory Finish: 500 & 1,500 Siaair Micro Pad Finish
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
RG max: 2.536
RG min: 2.480
RG diff: 0.056
Average RG: 3.1 of 10
Hook Potential: 195 (Scale 10-185)
Length: 105 (Scale 25-235)
Typical Breakpoint Shape: 95 Angular (Scale Smooth Arc 10-Angular 100)
Recommended Lane Condition: Oily
Description: The Addaptive ƒ(P+F) Solid coverstock is Brunswick’s newest innovation in performance enhancing additive chemistry. ƒ(P+F) describes our latest ƒormula that combines our new (P)rojection and our new (F)riction additives together to create our most aggressive coverstock to date. The Projection additive easily pushes the super aggressive coverstock down lane where the Friction additive kicks in gripping the backend for unprecedented traction. Being able to combine multiple additives in a coverstock allows Brunswick to effectively fine tune the length, mid-lane and backend characteristics of the ball motion.
The new Nexus Rotor core integrates a center stabilizing capsule and two vertical flip claws. The center stabilizing capsule revs quickly to control the mid-lane. As the axis migrates and the core lays down, the vertical flip claws take over maintaining the rev rate for a strong continuation through the backend and powerful drive through the pins.
We did it again! The Nexus ƒ(P+F) is so strong we had to add columns to the Ball Comparison chart and increase our Hook Potential scale to describe this ball. With its 1500-grit Siaair micro pad finish, the Nexus ƒ(P+F) offers our highest hook potential of any Brunswick ball to date. With an extremely aggressive ball motion the Nexus ƒ(P+F) skids through the front, saves axis rotation in the mid-lane and grabs the backend with a strong response to friction.
The Nexus ƒ(P+F) can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for asymmetric bowling balls.
The unique core shape of each individual ball is used for weights from 14 to 16 pounds. This approach to lightweight ball engineering provides bowlers with consistent ball reaction characteristics across this weight range. At 12 and 13 pounds, Brunswick uses a generic core shape with a RG-differential that is close enough to the 14 to 16 pound shape so the same drilling instructions can be used.

Nexus Solid *F ( P + F )

Releasing November 2011, the Nexus F (P + F), is Brunswick’s newest high performance ball.  To explain the name of the ball; the first additive F is for Formula, the additive P is for Projection, and the final additive F is for Friction. These new additives are the next big thing in bowling. If the length, mid-lane, and backend reactions can be controlled, then the ball motion will always will be spot on.   The friction additive will become extremely clear when you this throw this ball, because it hooks.  The P-additive gives this ball plenty of push to make it down lane, but not too much push, because it always has an aggressive down lane reaction towards the pocket. My Nexus saves all its energy during through the mid-lane to then display a quick response from friction to the pocket. The engineering of this ball will allow all bowlers the consistency everyone is looking for in a bowling ball. The Nexus F (P + F) should be your next bowling ball.

·         My Nexus is drilled pin above the bridge.

·         I throw this ball on fresh house shots with medium to heavy oil.

·         The out-of-box surface works extremely well with this ball.

LANE CONDITION

Length: 42'

Volume: Medium

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): Kegel Stone Street

COMMENTS

Likes: Great ball for fresh conditions with some volume and/or length. The Nexus Solid is very strong and continuous with a strong arc move at the breakpoint! I used the dual angle layout of 60deg x 5-1/4" x 40deg which placed the pin above my bridge and the mb right of thumb. I placed a weight hole on the P-2 location just to tweak the reaction a bit and I was pushing 1oz side weight. Another great release from the Big B!

Dislikes: I didn't get two of them!!! Use it on the conditions it was intended and you won't be disappointed!!!

COMMENTS

Likes: How well it handles the heavier oil conditions.

Dislikes: Hooks too much on lighter volumes in Box condition

This ball can handle heavy amounts of oil, and still make a strong move downlane.  This ball is great for playing the deeper part of the lane with my rev rate which allows me to stay inside of everyone.  I have used this ball on house shots and sport shots with no issues of hooking early or not hooking in carrydown.  The Nexu Solid is the strongest ball in my arsenal and is 4 boards stronger overall than my alpha-max which is drill similarly.  The Nexus Solid takes well to surface changes and adding polish will delay the strong backend movement.  The Nexus Solid is very clean through the heads and stores its energy to unleash it downlane while going through the pins with its continuation.  I assisted with a demo recently, and the people were amazed at how strong of a ball it is.  This ball performs great, period!

Length:41ft.

Volume:150ml

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc):House shot

COMMENTS

Likes:Stevie Wonder can see this ball read the lane.
Gets through the heads cleanly, but will pick up mid lane.

The lack of energy loss through the pins, gives you a harder hit and maximum pin carry!

Dislikes:May rev too early for shorter, or drier patterns. Problem was solved with polish!

Carry - Bowled a local tournament with an extremely heavy flat shot.  Smashed the pocket and left the hardest hitting pocket 7-9. Solid 9 and  the head pin jumped over the 7 pin on a great shot.
Likes - Still picks up even in transition and carry down. If it gets to the pocket it strikes.
  Dislikes - Needs oil.
Other - I see the reason Sean Rash destroyed the WSOB with this ball.

For me this ball is great when bowling on a sport pattern. The ball gave  me a large spot to throw at when bowling on the scorpion pattern. The  ball is clean through the heads and picks up in true  Brunswick fashion with the smooth strong motion to the pocket that gets a  flush hit almost everytime.

Likes: Love It, Thank you Brunswick and Carmen, what a cover stock. This is a must have ball in the bag. For a dull ball, the ball is extemely clean through the first 15 feet and has a strong arc off the dry with out over reacting. Great Oil Ball. This is the first Brunswick Dull ball that reacts like a Storm Ball. Will go down as one of Brunswick's Best Made Ball for oily lanes.

Dislikes: Not intended for Dry unless you polish up!!

COMMENTS
This ball is a great ball.  I was very shocked to see the length I got out of this piece, and how strong the back end reaction was.  I am a stroker/tweener that lacks confidence in the ball recovering when I make my way in deep around 20-22 when I need to.  This ball allows me to stay relaxed with my arm swing because there is no worry about ball recovery with the Nexus Solid!  I like its strong continuous motion through the pins and off the back of the deck.  After using this ball for a month, I got another one and drilled it pin down for more control.  I love them both.

Likes: Good length, even midlane and strong motion through the pins.

Dislikes: That Brunswick has too many balls out right now that are unbelievable.  It makes me hard to decide which ball I want to use!

About me:  205avg, 16-17mph, not a cranker and not quite a tweener somewhere in between (if that makes sense???)

I was looking for something to allow me to keep my speed up and still be able to play through the oil.  All I can say is wow!!!!  This ball absolutely destroys pins.  Was able to play 5 boards left of my baseline shot this year.  Came out of the box with a 229.  Followed up with the front 8 for a 278.  Had a few too many beverages and fell down to a 185, but definitely not the balls fault.  I just didn't execute and let off on the speed and through the nose it went.  Allowed me to play deeper inside through the oil with plenty of backend to take care of the ten.  Seemed like the ball generated its on revs and power as it went down the lane even when it didn't come off the hand perfectly.  100% happy with my purchase.  Only thing I'm worried about now is keeping my avg below 10 pin improvement before our tournament.

Likes: Drilled with a 3 1/2 X 3 1/2 pin down layout with MB kicked out past the VAL.  Small weight hole on PAP.  Box finish with a coat of Powerhouse Polish. This ball is unbelieveably smooth.  Recently used in a tournament.  8 righties and 2 lefties on the pair.  I moved 2 boards during the 3 game set while my right handed squadmates were chasing inside when the heads started to go away.  Even the lefties were not getting through the heads as clean as I was.  Ball still made the turn on the backend and finished strong off the back of the pin deck.  This is a very versatile layout for multiple house patterns and Kegel patterns.  Really blends the pattern nicely when others are fighting over/under.  A great compliment to my pin up box finish layout on my other Nexus solid. Just another example of the great products offered by the Big B these days.  Thank you Brunswick!

Likes:Drilled with pin over the ring finger and MB kicked out slightly to right of thumb.  Box finish. This ball gets good length with the pin placement, but definitely corners when it gets to the back of the pattern.  A great Brunswick piece that any tournament bowler needs to have in the bag.  I like this ball so much I have 2 of them with different layouts and surfaces.  I can't wait until tomorrow to drill my 2 new XX Nexus solids with the same drillings as the 2 I have now for comparison. I will report back on those 2 within a week to give those curious souls a heads up on the newest Nexxus after I get some practice games on them.  Keep up the great work Brunswick!

Likes: The best ball I've ever thrown!!!  This ball was drilled for the most flare possible.  It revs up really early but keeps going.  It's very angular for a heavy oil ball.

Dislikes: I honestly can't think of any.  The only thing is it can't be used when the lanes break down, but that's not what this ball was designed for.

Brunswick really did a good job for people who want to buy a couple of bowling balls to cover a wide variety of lane conditions.  This ball and the pearl ball are a great combination.  I might even buy 2 balls.  Buy one drilled for the most flare possible.  Get another and polish it heavily and maybe drill it to go longer.  Trust me the polished ball will hook considerably more than the pearl ball.

LANE CONDITION

42 foot Kegel Stone Street (THS)

COMMENTS

This is certainly the strongest ball in Brunswick's lineup.  Despite the aggressive out of box finish, this ball gets fairly good length, has a very strong and predictable midlane motion and good strength backends.  We found that even on this medium-heavy oil pattern, the ball could labor at times meaning it can handle much more oil.  Despite that, it made a good move back to the pocket.  As we've experienced with strong balls, we tend to find different entry into the pocket, but better than average carry due to the heavy roll of this ball through the pins.  If you like to wheel it, this ball is capable of that as it generates big entry angle.

Bowler Style:
   Rev rate: stroker
   Ball speed: 15.5-16
   PAP: 4 7/8" right 1/4" up

Drill Pattern:
   PAP drilling:
      Pin-->PAP: 4 3/4"
      MB-->PAP: 3 1/4"
      Pin Buffer: 2"
   X-hole: n/a

Surface Prep:
   1500 abralon, light polish

Comments:
This ball is like no other high performance solid ball I've ever had. It almost has characteristics of a hybrid, because this ball can fight through any oil put out but it still has recovery on the backend as well. With the light polish, the ball easily gets through the front part of the lane and is smooth off the spot but strong through the end of the pin deck. From my experience of drilling many of these for many different styles and caliber of bowlers, this ball is a great fit for anyone. Only negative that this ball has is that it does need oil. Even with a polish finish the ball still pleads for head oil. In my opinion this is the best high performance ball release from Brunswick since the infamous Inferno line.
