Title: Mastermind Einstein
Post by: BallReviews-scodaddy21 on July 07, 2015, 09:39:51 AM
Description: Outsmart the competition with the Brunswick Mastermind Einstein. This high performance bowling ball offers easy length with mid lane traction and outstanding movement on the backend when used on medium to oily lanes.  This reaction is achieved by combining Modified Mastermind Low RG core with the aggressive Relativity hybrid coverstock and finishing it with a 4000 grit Siaair Micro Pad.

Need a ball for heavier conditions?  Look no further than the Mastermind Einstein.  This hybrid will easily get through the fronts with a strong mid lane reaction and an even stronger motion on the backend.  It'll give you a great compliment to a Mastermind Scholar.  Its a little sooner than the Scholar but also stronger.  If you ever have a problem with carry down this will be the ball to throw.  I was able to open my angles up and just keep moving left and not once did it not make the corner.  If you are in the market for a strong hybrid, look no further than the Mastermind Einstein.  Your going to want this ball in you bag

I drilled the Einstein with the layout I use to start with all of my asymmetrical balls which is a 65X5.5X40 layout which puts the pin just over my middle finger and the mass bias just to the right of my thumb with the extra hole kind of being between P2 & P3.  With the out of the box surface I find this ball to fit just over my Mastermind Intellect and under my regular Mastermind.  I had issues with my regular Mastermind on heavier oil shot where I still want to open up my angles with the ball using too much energy getting right and not having enough back-end to carry.  I like where the Einstein fits in, as I can open up my angles with it and still see the strong down lane ball motion that I like.  I have the Einstein about 5&3 stronger than my Intellect, and will fit in the arsenal nicely when the Intellect is not quite enough.

I drilled this ball 60x5x70 which is a one of my favorite layouts. This ball was quite the surprise when it hit the lanes. Those of you who love that Mastermind signature reaction will love how this ball seems to be a great combo of all of them rolled into one. I was able to play multiple angles without losing carry or having it read to early. This ball was clean thru the front and read well down lane with endless recovery. If you loved the back end movement of the Scholar you'll love the Einstein and it's ability to provide similar angle without being as sensitive to oil.

I drilled my Einstein 60 x 5 x 40, this ball definitely has that " WOW" factor as you see it go down the lane. In it's OOB finish this aggressive hybrid cover easily gets through the front of the lane and with it's low Rg core it boost angularity for a strong down lane motion on those medium-heavy oil conditions.

My Einstein had the pin an inch above and inside the of middle finger with the MB about half an inch outside of my thumb. This is my favorite layout. That being said, this makes my Einstein have the most angular flip of any Mastermind I have. It hits harder than all of my Masterminds and is a great addition to bag. It has a little more midlane than the Scholar and Genius and not as much early hook as the original Mastermind. If I start out using the Genius I'll change to the Einstein if I lose backend and the same with the Mastermind.

If you're looking for that go to ball for fresh or a shot that has carried down, the Mastermind Einstein is the ball for you.

The Mastermind Einstein is a very SMART AND STRONG piece of equipment.  The Mastermind Einstein is very clean up front for a strong ball and has a strong continuation motion in the backend.  I drilled mine to roll stronger than my Scholar with more angular continuation.  The Mastermind Einstein is a great piece to add along with the other masterminds.  The Mastermind Einstein is a great ball that you will want to have.

Dislikes: none

The Mastermind Einstein has the combination of all the great traits of the Mastermind Series combined into one.  It has a strong read of the mid lane and plenty of hook like the original Mastermind.  The Einstein has the easy length through the front like the Genius.  It has the continuation down lane like the Intellect.  The Mastermind Einstein also has the down lane hook like the Mastermind Scholar.  It also has an added feature from the new coverstock technology.  This ball allows me to stay in the same area as the lane transitions longer than other equipment.  I seem to be able to get an extra few frames per lane before I have to move in and open my angles more.  This is a trait you typically see in a urethane or weaker reactive resin ball.  It doesn't mean I can stand in the same spot all night but being able to stand in the same spot a few frames longer could be the key to throwing a few more strikes per game.  I can hook the lane with this ball and open my angles or I can close my angles while playing up the boards.  If you have the ability to change the Einstein will change with you.  It hooks a few boards more than the Mastermind Scholar and starts its move a few feet sooner.  With 2000 Siaair on it the Mastermind Scholar proved to be too much ball for the 47 foot Scorpion pattern and I had to go back to the box finish.  With 1000 Siaair I could see it being a go to ball in oil.  It seems to work best on the house condition at the 4000 box finish and if I was going to use it as my primary ball I would probably put some Royal Compound on it.  Overall, the Mastermind Einstein is powerful, versatile, and a lot of fun to throw!  If you are looking for a strong ball that handles lane transition check one out today.

Love Love Love this ball.  This ball reminds me of the Genius but with more backend motion.  First set with this ball in league, 245 - 274 - 278 - 797 and then a week and a half later, bowling in a tournament, I shot 238, 258, 299 - 795.  So, close to shooting a huge number with this ball.  The Einstein is about 3 or 4 boards stronger downlane than the Genius was.

Drilled a Einstein with 60 x 4.75 x 50 to be a compliment to my Scholar and Intellect.  The Intellect has been one of my favorite balls for its ability to read the lane and never missing the break point.  The Einstein being a Hybrid and slightly higher RG allow this ball to push a little further and be more angular than my Intellect.  I would put it at 2-1 stronger than my Intellect and allows me to go around a pattern a little more than I could before.  It is a perfect ball when a Scholar is having trouble reading the lane.  I think the slightly higher RG in this ball and new cover stock material is going to make this ball great for opening your angles up and be a little more flippy down lane either on the fresh, or when you need to try to open up a pattern.

Likes:  The most versatile ball for me in the Mastermind series.  Fits between the first Mastermind and the Scholar.  I barely touched the surface with a 2000 pad to knock the gloss down and have loved the look so far.  Strong, but not too early; angular, but not as flippy as the Scholar for me.  What a great ball on the fresh, or when you want to open up the angles as the lanes transition.

Dislikes:  I do leave more 9 pins than ever, but I can live with that.

Thanks for considering Brunswick.

What I got from the Mastermind Einstein was exactly what I was looking for with this new release.  The motion I get from this ball reminds me so much of the original Mastermind.  The difference between the two is that you will see much more versatility from the Einstein due to it not needing as much oil.  The ball has a very clean reaction through the front part of the lane but still does not over react to the friction.  Very excited to throw this ball in the upcoming tournament season. The Einstein is the bigger, better brother to the Mastermind Intellect. The Einstein will produce similar overall hook compared to the Intellect with the difference coming all in the backend. My Einstein still gives me more than enough midlane reaction but I’m very pleased with the extra backend strength. This allows me to open up my angles and not be so worried about leaving corner pins as I continue moving inside. I thought the Scholar was my favorite ball in the Mastermind line, but the Einstein is quickly catching up. It’s just a good, wholesome, versatile, big-boy asymmetric. Nothing terribly fancy but just gets the job done. I tend to pull this out of my bag first when I know I’ll be dealing with heavier volume and/or longer patterns. Whether you plan on facing heavier/longer house shots or sport patterns, the Einstein would be a great choice for a strong yet versatile asymmetric.

The Mastermind Einstein brings the best characteristics of the series into one package. The ball is very clean through the front part of the lane with really strong midlane traction and the most continuous backend motion of all of the balls. The ball finishes the furthest left off of the end of the lane for me compared to all of my other Mastermind balls. The carry this ball creates is, in my opinion the best of the series. If you’re looking for a ball for fresh patterns that goes through the pins extremely well this is your ball. Get to your local proshop and start outsmarting the competition today!

Drilled pin up just above the bridge.  Box finish.  A very smooth rolling ball that for me fits beautifully between the Intellect and the Scholar.  It gets down the lane very easily but when it starts to pick up it hits like a tank.

I could see this ball being used for most bowlers on medium lane conditions and hose patterns as the first ball out of the bag.  Strokers and bowlers with soft speed will really like this ball as an option.

The Mastermind Einstein is the newest addition to this line. In my opinion is the best of the 5 overall. The Einstein uses a new cover formulation really changes the shape of this ball.

Mine is drilled 50x4.5x75 with a hole 2.5 inches below my PAP on the VAL. This new cover is very clean and creates a very decent motion down lane. The 2nd most angular in the Mastermind line.

For me this will be the most usable Mastermind of the line. The original was very strong, Genius was cleaner but not quite angular enough to open up my angles. The Intellect was close to the original but was smoother overall. The Scholar is really good. The Scholar and Einstein go great together.

If you liked the Mastermind Line or are looking for a new strong ball that will provide you a great shape off the pattern the Einstein is the best way to go.

Likes:WITH THIS NEW RELATIVITY COVERSTOCK THE SKY IS THE LIMIT... THE EINSTEIN FEEDS IN THE OIL AND OPENS UP THE LANE. MOVE LEFT AFTER YOU OPEN THEM UP AND THE BALL WILL STILL HAVE ENERGY TO PLAY THE DRY. FOR MYSELF IT FITS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIRST MASTERMIND AND THE SHOLAR. THE FIRST MASTERMIND BURNS UP IN THE DRY AND THE SHOLAR GETS A LITTLE TO FLIPPY. THE EINSTEIN IS A MOST HAVE ALL AROUND BALL!

Mastermind Einstein

This ball is incredible.  It has the Relativity reactive coverstock-hybrid creating the ultimate flip.  The low RG core extends rotational energy which is great for medium rev guy like myself because it
gives the angular move a boost.  I haven’t had too many balls in my hand that skid easily through the fronts, grab the mid lane, and make a strong continuous angular move to the pocket.  If you get a chance check out my Facebook video and you will see how this ball makes its move, and continues through the pin deck, its incredible to watch.  I have always been a medium rev guy, but this allows me to play with anyone, even the high rev guys.  I absolutely love this ball.

I drilled this ball with a pin under to see the characteristics of the ball.  I drilled this ball with a 75 x 5 x 70.  Its incredible.  Due to the fact that the rotational energy is extended, this ball transfers all of its energy to the pins.  This is why I was so surprised to see the pin under version drive through the pin deck.  In my experiences a lot of my pin under drillings will sometimes lose energy at the pins and deflect more.  Not this ball, it drives through the pocket and gives amazing pin action.  This ball is incredibly versatile for drilling.  I can’t wait to drill up my second one with the pin up, to allow for an even more angular attack to the pocket.  This is without question a benchmark ball by Brunswick.  Feel free to contact me by email with any questions; troy_300_1999@yahoo.com.

It skids through the fronts as clean as any ball I have, makes the hook transition at the perfect length for me and has an unbelievable angular roll to the pocket with carry % that far exceeds what I expected. I have ordered another Einstein which for obvious reason will drill it differently but the way this ball hits and carries has attracted the attention of several others that I bowl with, some have already purchased and express the same opinion as mine. I've been a fan of all the Mastermind series but this is by far my favorite. It seems like it has all the characteristics of the previous balls in the line mixed together with all the pros and none of the cons.

Bowler: Lefty, ball speed high, Rev rate high

Drilling: Pin down 1/4 inch below middle finger. OOB surface

Likes: For a very aggressive bowling ball, it's quite smooth. It grabbed in the midlane and didn't lose any power into the pins and just wouldn't overreact. It was just a smooth arc to the pins. It is my benchmark ball for high volume, longer patterns

Dislikes: The chemical smell. It can be a bit overwhelming so don't keep it in a public area

The Mastermind Einstein has a modified lower RG core compared to the other Mastermind series balls. It also has a new composite coverstock additive that will create more continuation through the pins. The Mastermind Einstein will start up a little sooner compared to the Mastermind Intellect but will have a stronger continuous downlane motion. I have used this ball on longer oil patterns, and it gave me more overall hook compared to the Mastermind Intellect. I have also used this ball on a THS, and it gives me a stronger, controllable motion compared to the Mastermind Intellect. I haven't had this ball overreact to friction and is one of my benchmark balls. Also, I can keep moving left to open up my angles and find more oil, and it still has enough energy to make it back to the pocket and carry. This is my favorite ball in the Mastermind line and will perform on many different oil conditions. I would recommend this ball for a THS and medium to heavier oil conditions. It takes well to surface changes, and I keep mine at 4000 to help control the overall motion with my higher rev rate.

The Mastermind Einstein is the newest release in the Hook line of bowling balls for Brunswick. For me, this ball has the roll characteristics of the original Mastermind, but it’s a lot cleaner through the front and middle parts of the lane. The Einstein will get to the spot and be a lot more responsive where you would see the OG Mastermind wiggle a bit when the lanes started breaking down. I have mine drilled to give me a little extra length and a more snap motion on the backend. I plan on using this during the end of the 1st game through the 2nd game of league bowling. It can easily be the  starting ball for me as well if I lay it out with the pin closer to my PAP.

COMMENTS The Mastermind Einstein is the latest and in my opinion best in the Mastermind line. On any heavy to medium pattern this ball shines. I have used this ball on several tournament patterns and have not found a real weakness in it. Strong enough to handle volume up front and retains for the backend and ignores carrydown like no other. Brunswick has something special with the new composite coverstock in my opinion. If you are looking for a strong hybrid asymmetric the Einstein is your choice.

Review:

I drilled the Mastermind Einstein to be the perfect compliment in my bag to two other balls in the Mastermind series, the Mastermind Intellect and the Mastermind Scholar. I wanted the Einstein to fit between the two balls, and give me a ball that would be aggressive enough to handle a medium-heavy volume, but versatile enough to be used on broken down patterns or shorter, heavier patterns. I got exactly that with this ball.

USBC White Oil Pattern

This house shot is one that I bowl on in two different centers on completely different lane surfaces. In the higher friction house, I was able to start around 14-15 and bump it out to 5-6 with great recovery and good pin carry. I shot 727 for three games with it, migrating about 3 and 3 right through three games. I found the Einstein to be about 2-3 feet longer than the Intellect and conversely 1-2 feet shorter than the Scholar. This set up perfectly for my game and the arsenal as a whole. Overall hook was similar to the Intellect, but the reaction shape was vastly different. The Einstein was much more responsive to the change form oil to dry, with a more violent backend reaction than the Intellect. It was not as violent as the Scholar, which has the largest backend motion in my bag to date. I really enjoyed the comparison to the other two Masterminds, and if you’re looking for that perfect blend of aggressive ball motion and good length, go no further than the Mastermind Einstein.

WTBA Mexico City Oil Pattern

This 45 ft. longer pattern showed me where the true difference between the Einstein and the Intellect lie. The Intellect is the go to ball on this pattern at box finish, as it picks up the mid lane and has a hard continuous move to the pocket. The Einstein I had to play around with various lines and angles to achieve better pin carry, going 229, 226, 219, 208, 256, 258. As you can see, as I broke the pattern down, the Einstein was incredible. The opposite was true of the Intellect on this pattern, it was much better on the fresh oil. Once again, the engineers at Brunswick know what they’re doing, they do not make overlapping balls in a series, and my real world testing proves that point to me without a doubt. If you’re going to bowl on longer formats, with heavier and/or longer oil patterns, both the Mastermind Einstein and Mastermind Intellect should be in your bag at all times.

WTBA Beijing Oil Pattern

This 35 ft. oil pattern was more challenging for the Einstein, as the nature of the cover-core combo wants to pick up sooner than it should for consistent pin carry at box finish. I shot 198. 203, 212, 227 on fresh oil at box finish. But, I took the cover up to 4000 siaair with Royal Polish and achieved much better results. I changed pairs and shot 237, 228, 269, 247 after the cover change. This ball worked incredible with a higher grit underlying finish and polish. It had a similar motion to the Scholar after the surface change, but was still smoother and a tad bit earlier than the Scholar, even after the polish. In my review of the Scholar I covered how incredible that ball was on friction, so no surprise the shorter pattern favored that type of ball reaction, even from the Einstein. On shorter, heavier, blended patterns, you can’t go wrong with either a polished Einstein or a box finish Scholar in your bag.

Summary

I hope you came off as impressed as I was with not only the versatility of the Mastermind Einstein, but also how it fit perfectly into the Mastermind lineup. If you are going from earliest and strongest to longest and most angular you have to go Intellect-Einstein-Scholar in that order. All three should be in any serious players’ bag, and at least one of those should be everyone’s bag at all times. The Einstein is the more proven bench mark type of ball of those three, and if you were going to get only one, I would go with the Einstein. Get all three and lay waste to any pins in your path. Thank you for reading this review of the Brunswick Mastermind Einstein.

This bowl has quickly become one of the first out of the bag.  Through the heads, it is cleaner than most of the other "topshelf" balls I have thrown, and doesn't overreact on the backend.  Thus far this ball has been predictable and versatile.  I have about 25 games on mine so far and have seen minimal if any degradation to the performance...having stayed with the out of the box coverstock as I didn't need to tune it.  A great piece to have in the arsenal that will fit right in the middle of the bag so that balling up or down due to the conditions is easy.

My Mastermind Einstein 55x5x45 (pin up) with no weight hole and it is my long pattern killer.  Most of its play has been on 43' Dead Man's Curve in our challenge league where cheating left with and going around everybody downlane gave me the look to average 220+ for the quarter.  To allow the ball to pick up early enough to be usable on fresh, I had sanded it down to 3k and on most nights I am able to stick with it all 4 games by chasing the shot left and adding more tilt.  I would best describe the ball as a strong cover that gives me moderate length with a strong but predictable move at the breakpoint.  Its a ball that keeps looking better the more I chase the shot in and tilt my hand, but is still a viable option when I have to straighten out my angles.  As a player who is most comfortable crossing through the middle of the lane with more open angles, the Mastermind Einstein fits right into my wheelhouse.

In comparison, the Einstein is a little bit cleaner and sharper than the Ultimate Nirvana, allowing me to make a 3/2 right.  The Einstein crosses a similar number of boards to my Melee Hook, but with a stronger change of direction and is a couple boards stronger down lane than my Vandal.  Mastermind Einstein is a great #2 ball for longer/heavier volumes which will be a logical ball choice once your Nirvana/Grudge/Guru series ball begins to struggle around the corner.

When I drilled my Einstein I was looking for a ball that would roll well and function as a second option in my lineup. I used a simple stacked drill under the ring finger. The ball does not disappoint. It is predictable and strong. Used it on a 39 foot WTBA and was able to stay in the track area longer than with my other equipment. On heavier volume the ball still stores energy and finishes well. Tremendous buy.

LANE CONDITION

Length: good length at 4000 grit

Volume: medium heavy

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS and Sport

This ball I have drilled pin above ring finger, this gives me good length and a strong backend. One of the things that I like the most about this ball is how versatile it is, probably the most versatile ball I have thrown in years. I have had great success with this ball on heavy to medium patterns whether it be THS or Sport shot. This ball gets down the lane with ease and then is hard off the spot, not snappy which is great when bowling on Sport shots. I can use this ball when I'm trying to go a little straighter or even when I want to get in and hook it a lot it loses no energy and still hits hard. This was the firstrunswick ball I had thrown in years and I am difenately impressed and can't wait to throw more.
