The specifications posted on this site are correct when they say "smooth but powerful." Although a pearlized ball, the Reactive Monster is not a flippy ball. It is very even throughout the lane and gives a strong backend reaction once it starts to hook and roll.

I have mine laid out with the pin above the ring finger to help get it a bit more length, and the CG stacked at 12:00, but just above the midline. I track high so the pin is somewhat near my track, and this is usually not a terribly strong drill pattern for me. The result is not much flare in the heads. This really helps the ball get down the lane because once it hits the midlane the ball wants to start to roll if there is not enough oil (and I'll go along with BTM's review in the December edition in that respect).

Like I said, this is not a flippy ball, which makes it tough to play a tight inside 4th - 5th arrow line with it and still take out the 10's. However the core helps the ball out in one respect -- you can just open your shoulders up a bit and look a board or two more to the right and wheel the lane with it a bit. The Monster Reactive likes to cover boards in the last third of the lane. IF you try to keep it tame you might find yourself fighting the ball. Open up a bit and let the ball do what it is built to do and I had much mroe success on the same lane.

For what it is worth, I have bowled with this ball on 1) wood with guardian; 2) synthetics; and 3) synthetics with guardian, and have found the ball to be similar on all three lanes (although it definitely gets down the lane better on the synthetics)

After reviewing the literature from Brunswick on this ball I decided to drill one up. NOw most of you guys know I am a Storm fanatic but I figured I'd try one from the Big B.

The drilling: I chose was a pin at 1:30 with slight shifts for positive side and finger weights. The starting specs were 3.2 top and 3" pin. With the shifts, the pin laid smack on the 3 3/8 leverage point so it is basically a label leverage ball. Post drill specs came out 15-14 with 7/8 side, 1/4 finger and 1 oz top weight.

The performance: I have used the Monster on 3 different conditions since drilling it. The first was a fresh strip shot with a funnel to 40 feet and crisp backends. The ball was way too strong on this condition. Clean skid to about 20 feet and then the ball turned over very hard. At the 45 foot mark the ball had done it's thing and hit very softly. OK...need more oil so I moved deeper. Still the same thing. To keep the ball right of the headpin I needed to throw a 20 to 5 shot and hope the bal lahd enough left to snap out the 10 pin. For me it rarely had that. The next night brought a bowled on shot (1 days worth of carrydown)with a fresh coat of head oil. The ball was still too strong. The skid was extended about 5 feet but the immediate turn in the oil was too much to keep the ball right of the headpin. Moving deep left the same weak 10's as the previous night. The third condition was a shot on wood lanes with flat oil for 40 feet. I thought this ball would really work well here. Unfortunately I was wrong. The ball revs very hard in the middle but you need to hold a very tight line to kick out the 10 pin.

In short the Monster Reactive fits between my Eraser and my El Nino Gold. Unfortunately there isn't enough room between there to justify another ball. Perhaps a bowler with more speed and drier lanes or less wrist and same speed might make out better. It's a decent ball but I'd take the Eraser over the Monster in a heartbeat.

Check my PROFILE for the line i throw and lane conditions.
this ball is drilled with the pin under my ring finger and
2 inches from PAP. the ball is more of a skid/flip meaning
the ball skids for about 25-35ft depending on fresh oil or
bowling on 2nd shifts. then the ball grips the lane and holds
steady for about 5ft. makes its flip toward the pocket with a
smooth, consistant backend. the ball has a little better than
average hitting power and is very versatile. the reaction is
predictable and can be controlled on various lane conditions.

This is the first time i've posted a review,oil conditions are meduim to heavy oil at 40 feet. ball has a pin 3 to 4 in out. had it drilled to just walk to the pocket. now this ball is a tank when thrown right.I stand at 10 to 15 and throw around 5 to 8. I do throw the ball around 19 to 20 mph. it's just a guess,if I lift it to much or slow it down to much It's a split but my avg with this ball is about 225. and i just love it... I normally throw columbia balls but my wife picked this one out, and i recommend this ball for you.....

just had this ball drilled .
i used it for 12 games on very dry back ends.
i shot this ball on the 5 board 8 board and inside on 15 and
20 and this ball realy did the job

league last nite the contions we're great.oiled 41 feet buffet to 43..posted a reveiw back in august.this ball is very predictable. I finally bowled a 300, been bowling for 20 years plus. never thought i'd do this..I recommed this ball to anyone that plays a down and in shot.. last nite standing on the 10 board and playing the first arrow I threw 20 strikes out of 24.. needless to say the last game, I wasn't there (lol) but bowled great.. try this ball and good luck..

I just recently had this ball give to me and it is a great ball. Another Brunswick classic. I drilled it 5 1/2 x 5 1/2! Drilled half way through the pin and the cg is just under my bridge. Put some extender polish on it. This ball has a great reaction. It is a very all round ball! It would almost be good for just anyone. Especially a tweener or power stroker. This ball really recovers hard on the backend. On a fresh house shot 10 to 10. I could play around 11-12 out to like 7-8 and it would have a nice break point, very controlled. It was extremely squirley on the sport shot, but when it broke down this was the ball to give you the nice break point that you needed on the shot.

I have this ball for one year and it hasn't let me down yet! This ball doesn't quite hook enough for heavy oil but too much for dry so it fits in on medium oil between my TRauma ER, heavy oil, and my Super Power Pearl, dry lane. This ball is great for people who just want that nice down and in shot.

I have had the monster for around a year and a half now and its still in my bag. I consider myself to be a power stroker 17-19mph and around 18 revs and righty. I had this ball drilled with the pin just left of my vertical line to get it in a slight negative position to give me a bit more delay, but the cg is still positive so I get a nice smooth hook. To me this has been a very versatile ball and that is why I still carry it with me. The ideal conditions for this ball are medium oil with decent movement coming off the backends. On these conditions I like to throw it 15 out to 10 and the ball just demolishes the pocket, the hitting power is great. On lighter oil you can move left and play deeper but some people arent really comfortable deep inside. And on oil it tends to get a little bit squirty but you can still play straight up 10 or 10-5 and it will work fine for you. If you want a snappy pearl reactive this isnt the ball for you, but if you want a ball that is smooth in its transition you cant really go wrong with this one.

Quick info about me: I consider myself a medium/high revs/speed player. I carry an average usually in the 180s (our house converted to synthetic lanes mid year and I am just getting lined up again). I prefer to roll an outside line. The ball is 16 lbs with 3-4 oz of top weight and the pin out is practically 0 ( I would have preferred a pin out of 2-3 in. but I did not specify when I ordered the ball ).

I purchased a green black reactive Monster because of the reviews I read on this site. It seemed to be the type of ball reaction I was looking for (roll further with less flare).

I have only been throwing this ball for a couple of weeks now (6 games averaging just over 200 with it) and it seems to be giving me the reaction I was looking for (light oil nights, does not overhook). On this condition, I can throw the ball along my standard line when there is less oil (other ball of choice is a Storm Erase it).

As far as the hitting power of this ball, for me, it has been excellent. When I am lined up, it carries well. Although I threw a no tap 299 and 300 back to back last week. I am seeing more flare than I originally anticipated, but it is still very controllable.

All in all, if you are looking for a controllable ball for light to medium oil conditions, I would recommend this ball.

well won some dollars at state and nationals with this ball should have done better but threw a few bad balls in the tourns,just get yur done..

This is a great medium to medium-light oil ball. I have used it primarily in my league and am averaging 211 (I only bowl 3 games a week and do not practice). I have it drilled with the pin above in the middle of the fingers and the CG is in the palm. It gets down the late and then turns hard.

This ball hits like a truck!!!
