Title: Monster Proactive Purple
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
Monster introduces Brunswick's most aggressive Proactive cover stock to the
popular mid-priced category. As a result, the difference in ball reaction between the Monster and other mid-price or entry-level balls is significant. Other particle balls at the mid-price point are subtly different from mid-price reactives. In fact, in the hands of mid-skill
level players the differences are going to be close to zero. Not so with the Monster. Monster will significantly out-hook and roll more evenly than Reactive cover stock balls, providing a valuable tool to attack oily lane conditions and bridge the gap between introductory and high performance products.

The specifications of the Monster are: Part Number: 61-103243; Proactive ETX - 4 Cover stock; 10 Micron Trizact finish; Hook Potential: 22-13 (dull/shiny); Typical length: 1; Typical Backend: 9; RG Max: 2.601; RG Min:
2.551; RG Diff.: 0.050; Average RG: 5.1; Hardness: 78-79; Weights: 12-16
lbs.

15 mph 45 axis stroker. Just had the Monster drilled today. Put about 8 games on it.  Was looking for something that could handle HEAVY oil with a lot of carry down and this is just the ticket for this ball.  I had it leverage drilled to the max so it would hook up early as everything else I throw is primarily drilled for length. (Enforcer, Torque, Cuda 2000 and Missle). I wanted something for a SPECIFIC CONDITION, OIL!!!  This thing sloshes easily through the oil, makes a nice strong arc(doesn't squirt)and hits like a ton of bricks.  IF YOU DON'T HAVE A LOT OF OIL DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THIS BALL.  But if you get frustrated by heavy oil I guarantee the Monster will put a smile on your face.  I thought the Missle was the best mid priced ball that I have ever thrown but it now has a stable mate called the Monster.

I will be the first to say that some balls are better than others but if you really want to get the most out of any ball go to a good professional who knows your game and is able to properly drill a ball that fits your style and the condition you bowl on.

Drilled mine with pin at 12 and CG 2 1/2 below that, on center line.  I attempted to polish this ball, but that was a wasted effort since it didn't take a shine at all. Anyway i was a bit scared to drill this ball for fear that it would hook at my toes and quit. Much to my surprise and delight this ball cleared the heads fine and roared back. In comparison to my granite gargoyle, it was a more even arcing but a bit sooner the ball got into a flip. Hit fairly hard and again not a bad ball for the money.

OK I have to do this.  I have to review a ball I absolutely hate.  Anyone remember a ball called the Ebonite Riptide.  Well I think Brunswick found the stuff the Ebonite was smart enough to throw out.  This ball is in the "instant hook" family.  This one is hooking by the arrows.  And if your lucky enough to get it to the pocket, you won't need to cover your ears cuz of the hitting power, because there isn't any.  I once saw Amletto Monacelli pick up a ball and shake it after he left a flat ten (BRUNSWICK days) I think they are still usuing the same techniques in this ball.  Better luck next time Brunswick.

I heard the monster was pretty aggressive so I drilled this pin out ball fairly tame.  I put the pin at 5 inches just below my middle finger and kicked the cg out to about 1/2 positive side weight.  Playing on a heavy long oil 10 board shot it was cleaner through the heads than I expected.  Although it is a fairly strong particle ball it definitely didn't play like a hook monster in box condition.

With this pattern it reved up end over end and was pretty strong on the back end without getting that uncontrollable flippy reaction that comes with leveraging the pin.  I can see why the staffers like this ball.  It looks to me like it is pretty versatile and I bet I could get better length out of it than my favorite riot zone if I polished it up.  Darn good particle ball for the money.  I liked it much better than the pricy HPC which to me was not a good match up of particle shell and high rg core.

I reviewed this ball earlier and gave it a favorable rating.  After experimenting with it quite a bit I am finding that it doesn't really have a place in my arsenal.  I am finding the Monster to be one of those balls that goes into a nice looking roll and will hit the pocket for me on a fairly wide variey of conditions, but just doesn't have the carrying power I would get from some of my other stuff.  One side note. For any you who are fans of the Chaos Extreme, I found the Monster to bear an uncammy resemblance to the Extreme in roll pattern and reaction on the lane.

i wasnt there to tell the guy at my pro shop how to drill it, so i would think it is straight up, with a 4-5.5" PP. i threw it for heavy oil of course. the ball WAS great at the begining. i got it around halloween. buy now it has just died on me, i got it resurfaced and sanded to 600 grit, but with a high speed bowler this ball is not for long term uses.

I purchased this ball at the ABC Tournament to try on the always tough conditions there.  My style is "tweener" with relatively high ball speed.  The pin is directly under the ring finger with the cg below and right of the center of grip.  The balance hole is in the lower right quadrant. I was able to play straight up 8-10 and the ball just walked up to the pocket.  I was very pleased with the reaction.

Well, I finally did it!  I was able to use the Monster and rolled my first 300 game.  I am a full roller and have the pin at 7:30.  For me the ball rolls very nice when there is medium to heavy oil on the lanes.  I was able to go over 12 at the arrows, swing the ball out to about 8, and it rolled into the pocket like a truck.  I put 12 in the hole with only one ball going a little high but it tripped the 4 and I was there.  All of my other equipment is by Track but, I may start to look at Brunswick a little closer in the future. !!!

I just purchased this ball and thought I would give a quick review with a longer one after Ive had more time with it. I had it drilled medium leverage per the brunswick sheet.

Ive been having over/under problems at my league house and the dry/wet/dry 7 to 7 pattern that they use with my Columbia Rock Star.  I am a low to medium rev player and the Rock Star would not turn for me if crossed the oil at all.  The purple Monster is much more predictable in the same condition.  It doesnt add to much hook to my game but it will turn in the oil without over reacting to the dry.  Ive played it at my league house and at a much dryer house that I practice at and have no problem finding a good line has consitant positioning.

After A couple of nights of league Ill post a lengthy reveiw but so far I think this ball is exactly what I needed for my style of play for dry/wet/dry pattern.

I posted a brief review of this ball a while back.  Here is the full review.

I am a medium to fast speed player with light to medium revs.  My ball is drilled using a leverage layout.  I bought this ball because I couldnt get my Rock Star to hook on medium oil and I was having trouble playing the wet/dry conditions at my house.

This is a great ball, especially with its low price. Its not overly aggressive but seems to need some speed to hook predictably. I could make this ball work for me from the first throw.  Its not a big hooker for me even if I get lots of hand in the ball due to the speed I throw. Still an excellent ball for me and because I can throw it fairly hard I can use it in all conditions from light to heavy oil though I do think its performance is best for me in light to medium oil.

You need to keep this ball clean, very clean.  I would use Hook-It after every night and do it thuroughly.  This ball hides dirt and it packs it in.  I havnt noticed it soaking up much oil but man it holds the dirt and it is really noticable if you let it go for 9-10 games. The hook suffers.

My average jumped about 5 pins with this ball.  My last night of league I bowled a 649 (I have a 173 average).  I have bowled 3 600+ nights since getting this ball and the number of 200+ games has gone up noticably.  It carries from most angles although for me the steep angles into the pocket do not carry as good as the straiter "power" shots that only move 3-5 boards of hook.  As far as how it hits I would have to say that its about even with my Rock Star on a perfect shot but gives me a little more if Im slightly off.

Drilled purple to replace brimstone which started getting cracks around fingers. 3 3/8's stacked leverage. Thought it would hook more than it did so I trizacted all the way down and shined it. Do this only if you have a whole lot of hand or slow ball speed. which I have neither. Lot's of speed(over 18mph) with 12 or so revs. Rolled good with no hit. Took it back to 10 trizact which is out of the box. And I had the whole lane.1st 700 in a month after starting the league with 4 in a row. I'm giving this ball a 8 of 10 only because I had to play with coverstock. If you need alot of hook drill the brimstone. If you don't drill the purple one and watch it open the lane up.

Thank you for reading my review.

Once in a while a Ball comes along that makes your eyes open up a little wider and you say WOW!! This is one of those balls. The Purple Monster has sold very well in our shops this year and I have seen it react well at the lanes I bowl, so I decided to get on the Band Wagon and drill one up.

This heavy particle proactive has the powercoil 17 cover stock and is sanded out of the box at a 10-micron surface, similar to a 600 wet sand, or a finer sanded surface.

The weight block is a Medium to High Rg with a shape of a football with 2 flip blocks, one on the top and one on the bottom, this helps the ball get through the heads cleanly for such an aggressive surface. The diff. of .053 is high and my test ball flared 4-5 inches.

I drilled my Purple Monster with a 3 ¾ Pin Shift and swung the mass bias away from my grip to the right at a 60-degree angle, hopefully trying to get it in a roll sooner. It worked. Again, 1st impressions were WOW!! What a ball.

The 2 houses I tried the ball at were AMF Bowlero and Village Bowl. AMF is HPL Panel lanes and Village is wood. Bowlero is a top hat 10 to 10 block and Village is a blended crown with carry down, two totally different houses. At Bowlero the ball did not seem to over skid when it hit the oil or over jump or jerk when it hit the dry. Even through the ball reaction was not great, it was the best ball reaction I have tried at Bowlero in 5 different ball attempts. Village, the Purple Monster was at home. The ball allowed me to be just a touch deeper that my Raging Red Fuze and allowed me to have a controllable breakpoint where the Fuze was harder to control on the same condition. The Purple Monster hit extremely hard and gave me 3 messenger strikes on the night when I know I don’t throw that much ball. It hit very impressive. I had people coming down to see what I was throwing. I take it they saw what I saw. Shot 698, which was my high for the year there.

When the lanes broke down, the ball allowed me to move in and still had the recovery from a deeper inside angle. I literally saw no weak points in this ball, only very impressive ones. The only thing I did notice in the ball is the tendency to shine up quick. After 3 games the ball received an alcohol bath and a light 600 grit sand on my resurfacing machine, then it looked and performed like new.

Bravo is the only word I can think of to thank Brunswick for making this ball. I will definitely pickup another one before they phase it out someday. With the equipment that continues to come out from the manufactures, you definitely can become a “Prisoner of your Equipment”.

Thank you for reading this review and Best of Luck with your Bowling Endeavors.

i drilled two of these balls. the first one i drilled was with a pin down layout with no balance hole. the ball got great length despite the arcing layout and being as strong a proactive ball as it is. the purple monster is definately the most hookingest ball out on the market. i use this ball in the beggining of my jbt tournaments which i am just about to get back to doing. in the biggining of the tournaments the lanes are drenched and the backends seem to be like mush. this is the only ball i am able to throw till the lanes dry up. the ball has great carry. i can really open up the lanes with this ball.
the other ball i drilled was drilled to go long. the layout has the pin above the ring finger and an balance hole 2 1/4 inches past my axis. this ball opens up the lanes great and it can really carry through the pins. i cant wait to try this ball soon at the next new jersey conference jbt tournament. message me if you have any questions. this is the best heavy oil ball out there. a must buy for the performance and the price.
i recently polished this ball. it gets great length an extremely powerful backend reaction. it opens up the lanes even nore and i can use it on     medium-heavy oiled lanes also.

Wow. After a year it's time for a review. Have the ball drilled pin under ring finger and cg just right of center of grip (i think it's the really small dot).

I have a 180 average and bowl in a very tuff league where the lanes are not to consistant. I have a deep inside line and through out to the second arrow (i am a righty). This ball got through the heads nicely, had the grip to come back to the pocket when I threw it right of my target, it didn't over react when it hit the back end. The pin action was great for this past friday, had many weak pocket shot, threw right of my target, but the pins had the manner to lay down for me most of the night. Only had on Brooklyn shot for a strike. I left only one ten pin on an almost perfect shot. I ended up throwing my first 700 series ever, 725 and have taken over 3rd for highest series this season.

The ball does seem to cross over when ball speed is down, and it soaks up the oil and dirt very fast(my only gripe). The ball hits like a ton. Love it. I give it a solid 9.

Well first thing i can say about this ball is that it is a great ball for the money. I bought this ball the week it came out to the public, so i've had it a while, i used it pretty steady for about 4 months, i am a versitle bowler, can play down and in or a huge hook and this ball worked well with whatever shot i played. i don't recomend the ball for dry shots though, unless you throw the ball pretty hard. I shot my one and only 300 with this ball. Although i have recently switched to a different ball i still have to recomend this ball for it's hard hitting and above average control. i average about 205 in 3 different leagues, and i still carry this ball with me becase i can play a lot of shots with it. 9/10 rating

This was only the second Brunswick ball I owned and really liked it. The Monster purple rolls hard in the midlane with a nice, controllable arc to the pins with better than average carry. The ball always worked well for me when getting to the pocket was top priority, it is a great go to or tournament ball. If you ever wanted a ball that you always knew where it was going when it left your hand the Monster purple would be just that.

I own three monster series balls, and it all started with this one.
i got this of the shelf in december of 2000. the CG was a little over 3" to the pin. it was drill with pin under and to the left of my ring finger (by the way im left handed).  this ball gives me a very nice and controled hook on the medium and heavy oil condition, and hits harder than a train at 400mph.  in other words, ITS AGGRESIVE.  the purple monster never lets me down when i need a hard hitting ball that wont leave a corrner

I purchased this ball for after doing some research because I wanted a ball that would really hook.....I got one in the Purple Monster alright!!  I am not a huge hook thrower. I throw with a lot of speed but not a whole lot of revs.  I asked for a very agressive drilling and boy did I get one.  Even with my style, it makes me look like I throw a huge hook. My other favorite ball is the Ebonite Apex Intensity, a pretty agressive ball in it's own right, and this thing makes that ball look really tame.  I can't really help you out with the drilling patterns, as I don't know all the terminology yet. I dont think you could pitch this ball too far out if you even wanted to!! I was trying to throw the ball from same spot I did with my Apex....forget about it!! I had to move over about 8 boards to the left of where I usually am standing to hit the pocket. Nice, agressive ball, especially for the money, but it appears it needs a lot of oil, because this thing wants to bite almost immediately off your hand with the box finish.

this ball was actually my dads and i was having troubles throwing a 14 pound ball to hard. so i took it out of the closet checked out the hand span. took it the next day to the house where i bowl at and had new finger grips put in and had the thumb drilled out a little more. and i was suprised because all my father usally owned was junk. maybe its just the way it was drilled but it is not really the type of ball that goes straight on for the 10 pin and then snaps out of no where dont get me wrong. This ball has decent hook and good could be used for a good spare ball.
