Riot Zone Purple Pearl
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
In creating the Riot Zone Purple Pearl Brunswick has optimized the ball reaction variables to create a Proactive choice for stronger players and broken down lane conditions. The coverstock was developed by starting with the successful DTX base coverstock used in the HPD, pearlizing it and optimizing the Proactive particle blend to create a DTX-2 traction rated cover that clears the front part of the lane cleanly while still kicking hard in the back end. The core used in the ball was designed to compliment and maximize the benefits derived from the updated coverstock formulation.

The dual density shaped core developed for use in the ball positions a large portion of the overall core mass toward the perimeter of the ball, raising the overall Rg, which helps push the ball down the lane allowing it to be used on medium to drier lane conditions. The high density puddle on the bottom lobe of the core allows it to maintain a medium high differential Rg, creating a reasonable amount of track flare to maintain strength in the back ends.

Even though the ball creates more length and back end than other Proactives to date it still retains the traction characteristics of Proactive coverstocks that yield a smooth and strong back end by blending out the over/under reactions associated with typical house conditions and shorter oil patterns.

The specifications are: Color: Purple Pearl; Coverstock: Proactive DTX-2 Urethane; Surface Factory Finish: Trizact Cerium Oxide; Available Weights: 10-16 lbs.; Part Number: 60-103113; Hook Potential: 20-12 (dull/shiny); Typical Length: 5; Typical Back End: 12; RG Maximum: 2.626; RG Minimum: 2.578; RG Differential: 0.048; Average RG: 5.0.

Had this attractive Purple monster for a while, Had used it with the previous guys drilling of 5 1/2 X 5 1/2 (with tweaks to the span and pitches)when purchase from another and this was a lot of ball but not enough for my purpose.

Just yesterday I decided to drill it a new way that may be apporpriate for a league I bowl in with lots of head oil then carrydown.

First impression I had was that this ia definely a lot of ball.
Lots of early REVS generated in the Proper spot in the heads.

Good push due to the Pearlized particle cover stock.

Current drilling.
Pin out 2 inches.  Now drilled 41/4 X 3 3/8.  Stacked with a small weighthole straight out from my grip center near PAP.  Strongest drilling for me.
This ball I'm going to try on this league with Carrydown and maybe it will help me get my carry percentage up, wanted lots of early revs and midlane flare.

This ball sort of fits right between my Shock Zone and my Pro Zone Violet.
A Stronger earlier core than both.  But the pearl particle gives it a little more length than the solid cover later revving Pro Zone Violet.

Also longer than the Shock Zone with more total hook.  This ball makes a strong rounded move into the pocket that really smashes the pins.

The question will be how will handle heavy carrydown.  We'' see in two weeks and I'll update then!

REgards,

PS my league has gotten sloppier and sloppier in the back and this definetely is stronger than the All medium Shock Zone(Almost a reactive) ball. Which handles dryer backends quite well.  This ball is also a step down in strength and angularity from the all world strong Angle Evolution Xtra (and similar Deadly Virus) both of which can overwhelm a lot of conditions.

i've got 2 of these.  one with the pin between the fingers, the other with the pin just to the right and below my right finger.

thhey both have close to the same reaction, just the 1st gets down the lane more than the 2nd does.  i can rev up the 1st one a lot more than i can the 2nd for some reason, but once you line up with them, explosive pin action.  these are a great combo.  i can start out with the 2nd and when they start to dry out, i bring out the 1st and light em up.
 i'm out

This is my third review of this ball and I've used it very little!

Originally as noted below this ball was drilled 5 1/2 X 5 1/2.  (A drilling I'm usually not real fond of!!).  But it was good as it gets with that drilling for me!  Now I've moved it to a drilling that is better for me.

$ X 3 with a weighthole one inch past my PAP and 6 1/4 inches from the grip center.

The condition, a typical (atypical for my house) shot of about 41 feet!

I was in the middle of testing 6 different types of bowling gloves and had broke this ball out storage to try to see if it could handle our silly oil in the heads and sloppy backends shot.  It wasn't there so while testing gloves I noted that this ball was really impressing the hell out of me, along with a small gallery of onlookers as it did some incredible revving and striking, for the unitiated!  (note review of gloves coming up), winners for me were Striker wrist support and Robby's longer than standard)!

What is surprising is that this a high rg version of the Command Zone Arc core(lighter density nugget added to center of core), yet this thing revs as hard and as fast as anything I've ever used including My former Command Zone arc and almost as hard as the super hard revving Vortex II pearl(much lower rg).

You know how they have a ball from another company called the Revmaster?  Well this really is the Revmaster.  Rev, Rev, Rev, Rev, Rev, Rev, Rev..... a few more then slurve, smoothly and strongly to the pocket.  Earlier bite than the Command Zone arc and my (Smash/r drilled very similar).

One of my favorite balls has been the ProZone Violet(it just doesn't carry flush), it carries the world light!!!  Another Brunswick favorite for me is the Shock Zone.  This ball fits right in between!  Earlier than the shock Zone, heavier revving, and a little more even slurving backend!

This thing is great on the carry!,  At least on this length shot.
Light and flush work very well!!!

I believe this is the lefthanded version of a pearl particle that one would want vs the Shock Zone is the righthanded version(handles lighter volumes better).

I'm still curious as to how much length of oil pattern this ball can handle and how much carrydown.  Given my slop league conditions I know I'll find out.

As my Smash/r is my favorite ball right now, this ball is every bit as much in the same mold with more bite in the midlanes and at the breakpoint.  About 4 boards deeper on this very medium to medium heavier condition!!!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS because of the Pearl Particle Coverstock this thing seems to be able to skid better and retain more energy than the ProZone Violet and yet maybe be able to handle just as volume and length of oil!  Yet with better carry!
PPS Closet non Brunswick reaction I've seen is the Diesel Particle pearl(yet rgs are greatly different!).
It takes Courage to have Faith, and Faith to have Courage.

"OLD FAITHFUL"! yea its old, yea its been resurfaced like 20 times, yea it probley has thousands of games on it, BUT, its still alive and and kicking! used to be very angular but its become alot more tame. nice revs on it, predictle arc, gotta love the hitting power. yea theres better stuff out there, but theres always that old reliable ball u know well u can pick up, when everything else isnt getting the job done, and score well with. this is that ball for me. its what got me the "zone" name.
