Title: Nexxus Æ’(P+R)
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
High Performance
- Core Type :
 Nexus Rotor (14-16#)
- Coverstock:   Addaptive ƒ(P+R) Solid
- Color:  2-Color, Red and Black Solid
- Factory Finish:        500 & 1,500  Siaair Micro Pad Finish
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
- RG max: 2.536
- RG min: 2.480
- RG diff: 0.056
- Average RG: 3.1 of 10
- Hook Potential: 200 (Scale 10-200)
- Length: 110 (Scale 25-235)
- Typical Breakpoint Shape: 100 Angular  (Scale Smooth Arc 10-Angular 100)
- Recommended Lane Condition:  Medium to  Heavy Oil
- Description: The Addaptive ƒ(P+R) Solid  coverstock is Brunswick’s newest innovation in performance enhancing  additive chemistry. ƒ(P+R) describes our latest ƒormula that combines  our new (P)rojection and our new (R)ecovery additives together to create  our most aggressive coverstock to date. The Projection additive easily  pushes the super aggressive coverstock down lane where the  Recovery  additive connects with the lane for an extraordinary backend hook  motion. Being able to combine multiple additives in a coverstock allows  Brunswick to effectively fine tune the length, mid-lane and backend  characteristics of the ball.
The new Nexus Rotor core integrates a center stabilizing capsule and  two vertical flip claws. The center stabilizing capsule revs quickly to  control the mid-lane. As the axis migrates and the core lays down, the  vertical flip claws take over maintaining the rev rate for a strong  continuation through the backend and powerful drive through the pins.
The Nexxus ƒ (P+R) is so strong it extends the limits of our Ball  Comparison chart. With its 1500-grit Siaair micro pad finish, the Nexxus  ƒ (P+R) offers our highest hook potential and most continuation of any  Brunswick ball to date.
With an extraordinary ball motion the Nexxus ƒ (P+R) skids through  the front, saves axis rotation in the mid-lane and grabs the backend for  unbelievable continuation on medium to heavy oil lane conditions.
The Nexus ƒ(P+F) can be drilled using the standard drilling  techniques developed for asymmetric bowling balls.
The unique core shape of each individual ball is used for weights  from 14 to 16 pounds. This approach to lightweight ball engineering  provides bowlers with consistent ball reaction characteristics across  this weight range. At 12 and 13 pounds, Brunswick uses a generic core  shapewith a RG-differential that is close enough to the 14 to 16 pound  shape so thesame drilling instructions can be used.

This ball is amazing! It goes goes through the pins so well and never quits. It works very well on oiler conditions. I would highly recommend everyone to have one in their bag. I compared it to my nexus solid and it is much stronger and hits harder but is very controllable. It gets through heads very well.

got this ball 15# 4 oz, 2.5 tw..4.5x60x30...pin above ring, cg in palm, mb right next to thumb. left ball at oob surface. this ball is clean through the fronts, with a very strong backend. hits and carries great. great continuation through the pins, and keeps pins low to the deck. playing 25 out to 8-12 this ball just rips the rack..no over/under..very predictable at the breakpoint. this is my first brunswick ball, and gotta admit its pretty awsum. definately the strongest ball ive ever owned. it is about 7 boards stronger than my 900 global bank roll. this ball is also good with carry down. reads the lanes nicely, and tears the pins up. strokers and tweeners will absolutely love this ball..thanks "beans" for the ball, and punching it up for me..awsum job. i will definately be buying more brunswick equipment..great job with this great ball.

Likes:Simply amazing gets through the heads incredibly smooth, and no matter how bad you miss it seems to get back to the hole, with enough energy to still carry.

Dislikes:Maintaining the cover is crucial. If you dont it tends to go a little long and miss the spot downlane.

Likes:This ball is STRONG. I haven't thrown this ball very much because I can't seem to find enough oil for this ball. Tournament time is around the corner so I am sure I will be throwing it soon. It starts up about a foot sooner than the Nexus Solid drilled the same. If I can get it to the spot it goes through the pins very well. As deep as I have to get with this ball you would expect to leave flat corners, but not with this ball. It snaps the corners out with ease. I will be drilling another one and putting some polish on it. I will let you know how that one rolls as soon as I can.

Dislikes: Nothing!!! It's that good.

Way to much ball for me on the THS out of the box. When i get home from nationals i will tweak the coverstock and post another review.

Likes:Excellent combination of midlane and angular backend.  Relative to the Nexus p+f sanded, 4 and 1 further inside.  I thought the Nexus p+f was a huge improvement fromm the CSystem Alpha Max, and a great benchmark ball for heavy oil.  Never could carry with the Alpha Max.  What I like about the NeXXus is that I get the angular breakpoint without having to create more axis rotation with the release. With the Nexus p+f, it was great until moving deeper inside.  With the XX, no worries.  It gives a similar ball motion to the Nexus Pearl, but obviously in a heavier oiled condition

Likes:You have to have this ball in your bag!  Its a game changer!  With the projection additive in the ball this dull coverstock of 1500 gets down the lane with ease, regardless of how the coverstock is altered.  I recently used it in a tournament where players where all using pearilized equipment and I was playing the same part of the lane with the new Nexxus Solid.  They were asking how does that ball not burn up energy?  With is projection additive and recovery additive this ball is like no other you have every owned....it gets down lane with ease, and has great recovery allowing you as the bowler to not have to be so perfect.  I have drilled both of mine for tougher conditions.. ball 1- pin up is a 35 x 4 1/2 x 30- this has made the ball be very smooth off the break especially for longer patterns, I've used it at our state tournament where I averaged 240 for 9 games which was a modified league shot, Ive used it on the cheetah, 2012 Nationals pattern at our bowling center, and on a flat pattern.  I've been able to use it everywhere, and it hits like no other ball I've seen.  Ball 2- pin down with a 65 x 4 x 60 degree drilling.  This one gets going sooner than my previous drilling but keeps the predictible shape I like.  I will be drilling one more as my "show" ball on league conditions, which I think would be the typical layout most bowlers would like with this ball because it will give them length and strong backend look and that will be... 70 x 5 x 30.  Get one of these in your bag today, and watch your scores improve!

I used this ball 2 times now, and it is about 5 boards stronger downlane than the Nexus f(P+F).  It is just as clean  in the front part of the lane as the Nexus f(P+F), but has a stronger motion when reaching the friction.  I used it at a tournament this past weekend for all 6 games which was bowled on the WTBA Atlanta pattern which is 38' and has a heavier volume in the first 20 feet of the lane.  The Nexxus f(P+R) allowed me to stay in the same area on the lane longer without having to jump 5 boards left in 1 or 2 frames.  The Nexxus allowed me a little miss room to the right and still have enough to recover.  It would be best used for patterns that have a heavier volume of oil or where a stronger backend reaction is needed.  It doesn't leave corner pins even though it allowed me to open up the angles on the lane.  I have not adjusted the box surface, and it hasn't hooked early for me yet.  Even though I have it drilled with a 6" pin to pap, it still flares about 5" on the ball.  If you are looking for a ball that clears the heads and can give you that extra hook in the backend, this is the ball for you.

The Nexxus f(P+R) is the third release in this line. The deisgn for this ball was to be a little more angular off the spot when compared to the Nexus f(p+f).  Also to be stronger overall as well.

I drilled mine with the intent to smooth it out. The original Nexus privided me with enough back end. I used 40x5x40 with a hole in my PAP. This layout really lets me keep my angles smaller. Even with this layout the ball corners plenty. When comparing to the Nexus the double "x" is about 4-5 boards stronger. The ball taked surface adjustments very well.

This ball will be best used on heavier and longer patterns. Use this when you just need something to hook. This ball will get it done for you.

Likes: Oil handling ability and Overall strength

Dislikes: Needs lots of oil

The Nexxus is an upgraded version of the very popular Nexus Solid.  This new release possesses what many of us didn't think was possible: More Hook!  The Nexxus made a very slick 43 foot sport pattern look like a joke.  I was able to get about 8 boards deeper than one of my friends with a competitors masonry based product.  The shorter angle pin up ball made the out of bounds look non existent.  After about a game and a half, the ball would wheel the entire lane with ease and come back from almost anywhere.  Compared to similarly drilled Nexus Solid balls, the new Nexxus balls hook about 5 boards more.  The larger angle pin down ball has a smooth hook set motion while the smaller angle pin up ball hooks the whole lane with lots of continuation.  On our house shot the pin over ball requires me to start at around the 23 board at the arrows out to board 7 or so.  It is simply a monster!!!!  These ball with definitely see lots of use on oilier patterns that we bowl on during the PBA Regional Schedule and other scratch tournaments.  The ball seems to match up better for higher speed bowlers on our moderate volume house shot thus far.  One of our left handed teammates has shot big scores with it the last several weeks.  It has changed his game for sure, as he sees more recovery and is able to move inside more as the lanes change. The Nexxus is a new standard in oil handling ability.  If you are looking for maximum recovery on slicker lane conditions join the Brunswick revolution and roll with the Nexxus!

Drilled this Nexus the same as my favorite Nexus Solid with a 55X5.5X35 with no hole, and sanded in the Haus with 4000 abralon.  this ball fits right in between my favorite Nexus Solid, and my Nexus Pearl.  It is abot a foot cleaner, than the solid and a foot earlier than the pearl.  Backend it is 3 less than the solid and 2-3 more than the pearl.  I think I am going to like this ball on longer patterns with medium volume, as they start to break down.  I would like to see a little bit more of a defined break point out of this ball, but that can be altered with a hole down the line when I throw it a little more.  Again...this isn't your old Brunswick look.  This ball is definately strong down the lane.

Layout used: 66x 5 5/8 x 40  Pin ended up being above the middle finger with the cg kicked out slightly without an exta hole needed.

Ball Surface: OOB

Review: Gets down the lane very well for a high end ball.  Makes a strong, yet controllable motion when it sees friction.  Comparing it to the original solid Nexus, it responds to the friction fairly quicker and is about 3-4 boards stronger on the backend.  When I see the original not making the correct motion downlane I can move a few boards inside with the XX and open the lane up.

Strengths/Weakness: Its length and controllability.  Most high end balls that responds to friction as strong as this one does tends to go sideways, but not this one.

Just a quick review. I've bowled with this ball on 3 conditions for a combined total of about 35 frames: "fresh" (not fresh" Brunswick synthetic house shot, actual fresh on the same lanes, and 1st shift USBC Open (Baton Rouge). I have a 4"+ pin to CG ball drilled above the fingers, double thumb...wanted a heavy oiler with max LEFT and directional change. I'm slightly rev dominant, very high track.

All this ball knows is left. Some heavy oil balls roll out and don't hook on dry, no, this ball just keeps going left. I can't believe how much hook this ball gets with its box surface of 1500, can't envision a situation where a rougher surface would be needed. Unusable even at box in anything but the heaviest of oil, on a house shot it allows me to play an inside line without swinging it out very far, and I can actually start left of the head pin and get recovery, something I can't say about many other heavy oil pieces I've tried. It also cleans incredibly easy for a super oiler dull piece.

I think I'm going to keep it at 1500 but shine it up with rough buff and just blow out fresh house shots. I'll probably be able to play ridiculously deep with it set up that way, something like 20 - 5 when I typically play 15 - 7 or 18 - 10, somewhere in those areas depending on the ball/lanes. You could probably drill up 3 of these and a urethane ball and cover every conceivable lane condition. Very very good but very very narrow application...this is a good thing.

Two words “Got Oil?”   This is the strongest ball I've ever seen. It's even stronger than the Nexus Solid. If you are having difficulty getting a ball to move in a heavy oil situation or you are a low rev player, the Nexus f(p+r) is likely the ball to go to. With it's box surface this ball is very strong. The house shot we use is 44' in length and has a heavy concentration of oil in the middle. It is not enough for this ball in it's box condition. I hit the ball with Brunswick Ruff Buff and scuffed with a 2000 pad and the ball rolled much more consistently on that condition. I threw the Nexus f(p+r) recently in a tournament on Pro Anvil in the above modified surface and was able to stay with it for the entire block. It takes surface changes very well and rolls like a truck through the pin deck which tells me it has the capability of conserving energy for the back end.

The Nexus f(p+r) is very much as advertised. It has to be the strongest ball on the market at this time. I'm looking forward to using it on high volume long pattern tournament conditions. That is where the ball really shines. It's a great compliment to the other two balls in the Nexus Line and has definitely earned a spot in my tournament bag. Based on my game, I can see where I will use the Nexus f(p+r) mostly on fresh high volume tournament shots. Which means straighter angles to the pocket. On the right conditions the Nexus f(p+r) will allow me to open up the lane where I have not been able to do so with other equipment.

Dislikes:

Remember to use the right tool for the right job. The Nexus f(p+r) is intended for higher volumes of oil and for players who have difficulty opening up the lane. This ball is intended to address a specific situation, use it for what it's intended for.

This ball is is a beast. The second set I threw with this ball was 800 (my first one by the way!!). The reaction is massive, but very predictable. The pin action is just down write sick. I never seen that much wood fly around the pin deck.

Primarily used for heavier conditions, this worked very well on the THS at my center (800!). Sometimes with THS you can get bad over under, but with this ball I just don't see it. It's very smooth through the heads and the energy it retains just boggles my mind.

On heavier sport conditions I found to actually have a quite a bit of area; very impressed! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this ball to anyone looking for a new ball!

Likes: The Nexxus is the most aggressive ball I've thrown to date.  It's perfect for rev challenged or speed dominant players.  In my Nexxus, I wanted to create a ball reaction that would provide me a unique look on the lanes, contrary to my Nexus which provides me with a long and strong reaction perfect for any house condition environment.  Being that the Nexxus was a stronger ball overall and might be too aggressive for a THS condition, I picked a layout that would give the ball more midlane reaction and less back end reaction.  A ball that would work well on heavy oil Sport compliant patterns.  True to form, this ball is too much on the house pattern.  And though the angles I could create from the extreme outsides were impressive, the ball did in fact roll-out prior to hitting the pins, which was totally expected.  In scenarios like this, the orginal Nexus Solid was plenty of ball and worked great on this condition.

On the heavier oil sport pattern used in our City Championships, the Nexxus made the unplayable part of the lane playable.  As director of the tournament, I saw a lot of gutters and most everyone moved inside to play where there was friction.  The outside of the lane was OB for just about everyone.  With the Nexxus, the outside was absolutely playable.  I was able to get a reaction on the outer portion of the lane absent to most all other bowlers.  This allowed me to keep my angles strong and open up the outside of the lanes for games 2 and 3 and keep my entry angles strong.  As this ball began to migrate too early, I stepped down into my regular Nexus Solid and finished off the set with a 722.  My other team set on this pattern was a 719.  The high in the house for this tournament was a 740, followed by a 735.

This ball cuts through oil and makes a sharp turn.  It is probably a safe 4-5 boards stronger than the regular Nexus.

Dislikes:  The Nexxus is a very strong ball.  With so much friction in your typical house shot, I find this ball might actually be too much ball.  For the rev challenged or speed dominant player, this ball is probably a great fit.  For a ball this agressive, I think you speed and revs need to match for it to be productive.  I.E., slow speed, slow revs, high speed and high revs.

Likes: At first, I wasn't totally sure how this ball fits into the lineup next to the Nexus f(P+F).  The Nexxus uses the same core and same out of box finish.  The "double X" is a bit cleaner through the fronts, has slightly less midlane read, and has stronger entry angle into the pins.  It will actually be a bit more playable on THS than the Nexus f(P+F) because it is not quite as strong overall.  It can still handle a fair amount of oil with ease, but will generate just a bit more punch on the backends which will help on THS.  The Nexus f(P+F) maybe a tad more useful on sport conditions, but this Nexxus will be more usable everywhere else.

Our Digitrax analysis showed a fair amount of entry angle, and a bit more than the Nexus f(P+F).  It actually bridges the huge gap between the Nexus f(P) pearl and the Nexus f(P+F) solid.  There's still quite a gap between this ball and the Nexus pearl so not quite sure which ball I would pick as the step down to this ball.

Carry - Ball hits hard. You can hear the ball strike over the music we added
Likes - I needed a dull ball to keep at a low surface for playing in the slick on tight patterns
Dislikes - Ball leaves lots of back row single pins
Other -We had a P+F demo ball a  couple of months before the P+R was released. The only thing the P+F was  missing was a harder turn to the pocket to get the corner pins out. I  feel like this ball solves that problem. This is the best ball in the  Nexus series thus far.

COMMENTS

This ball is a great compliment to the original Nexus. Nothing better than having two balls with nearly identical motion, but different strengths. This is a huge benefit to your arsenal. For me, the original Nexus is a very versatile ball. While it hooks quite a bit, it is still useable on medium conditions. With the NeXXus, you really get something that is destined for heavier patterns. While it may spend a little more time in the bag, it serves it's purpose when you hit a condition that is just plain slick. I drilled two of these...one with what I consider my benchmark layout (identical to my original Nexus) which allows me to open up the lanes, and another with a more control layout. Being asymmetric, my control ball has a longer pin to pap to promote more forward roll and a larger val angle to get the ball to be a little lazier downlane.

Ball #1 is about 5-6 boards stronger than my orginal Nexus at box finish. With my higher ball speed, I rarely have trouble with balls hooking too much on the 41' white pattern where I bowl league. This ball ended up being too much for it. My first real experience with the NeXXus was bowling a tournament the upcoming weekend that was pretty slick and had decent length, and I was able to get lots of frames on NeXXus #1. This ball gave me a look nobody else had in the center...I was able to get some reaction....but the lanes were so slick, I decided to hit the ball with 500 grit by hand....and while most people thought I was crazy at first, it was amazing the ball motion I was able to create. The ball STILL made the corner....at 500 grit...I was honestly quite impressed. I was able to get through 3 of 6 games of qualifying playing anywhere from 3rd arrow to 5th arrow using a 500 grit NeXXus. Most people were shocked to find out how much surface it had after seeing it turn the corner so well. Needless to say, it got the job done. Currently, I have this ball at 4000 grit to be more useable on league conditions, and it gives me quite a versatile look, much like the original Nexus. At 4000 grit, I have this ball about 3 boards weaker than my original Nexus at box finish. Between the Nexus and NeXXus, I really feel I can play my "A" game with bigger angles on a variety of conditions.

Ball #2 was drilled to allow me to play straighter angles without the ball jumping sideways on me. This ball doesn't get nearly as much lane time because, frankly, I don't hit conditions that require so much control very often. I really intend this ball to be used on heavier sport patterns when traveling to tournaments down south. I have used this ball at my league house on the 2012 USBC Open Championships pattern...and found it to still be a little too strong. This ball defintely gives me a earlier read than Ball#1 and smoother downlane motion as well. I have it about 1-2 boards weaker than Ball#1, but with an entirely different motion. This is definitely a more condition specific ball/layout.

In conclusion, I feel that there is no better ball for someone looking to handle heavier patterns...especially for the lower rev players and speed dominant players. Like I tell many of my customers though, this ball does need some oil, and sometimes, it might just have to wait in the bag. If you're looking for something that is a little more useable day to day, I still highly recommend the original Nexus....and with the both of them, you really can cover a wide variety of today's conditions.

Brunswick Bowling Ball Review

My Information

               A. Name:Richard D. VanScoyk

B. Average: 227 (House Shot)

               C. Honor Scores: 15 – 300’s, 9 – 800’s

               D. Ball Speed: 17.5 – 18.0 mph

               E. Revolution Rate: 325 rpm

General Ball Information

F. Name of Bowling Ball: Nexxus

G. Weight of Bowling Ball: 15 lbs

H. Layout of bowling Ball: Pin down and 45 degrees

I. How many games do I have on this ball? Approx. 100 games

J. Favorite Surface on this bowling ball: out-of-box

K. Description of ball motion: NIKE sign

L. Overall Hook (1 none – 10 lots): 9.4

M. Versatility (1 worst – 10 best): 6.8

N. Overall Rate (1 worst – 10 best): 8.7

O. Why do I recommend buying this bowling ball? If you are lacking in the hook category, the

Nexxus is a MUST buy. I bowl on synthetic lanes, and during carry-down I barely have

to move my feet or eyes.  I believe this ball will automatically raise your average 5 or

more pins.

Special Information

               P. How does this ball compare to another ball? This ball compares to my Alpha-Max. This ball

has a nice response to friction down lane. If I miss left with a shot, the ball slides just

enough to strike. Also, if I miss right, the ball does not hook too early, and the ball

recovers just enough to strike.

               Q. What are the strengths of this bowling ball? Late Response to friction and Overall Hook

               R. What are the weaknesses of this bowling ball? Versatility and breakdown

               S. Oil Patterns used on:House Shot

               T. How does this ball react on house patterns? This ball makes a strong move to the pocket

when the ball hits friction. If the lanes get too dry, this ball is notorious for leaving 10

pins. However, if you are able to make quick moves, you should never miss the pocket.

U. How does this ball react during transition? It reacts well, but if it gets too dry, the 10 pins are

tough to knock down.

V. When do I find myself using this ball? I use it on all fresh medium - heavy oiled house shots.

W. Additional Comments: I am seeing tremendous scores with this ball. I am on a current streak

of 4-700’s in a row. I have 5-279’s with this ball, but still looking for that 300. I

highly recommend this ball, because of the overall quality of late hook.

Likes: I just starting bowling again after 12 years away from the sport. I've been amazed at how much the sport has changed. Not only with the lanes and different oil patterns used now. But the equipment/balls have changed so much. And until a few weeks ago I was and have been all over the lanes.  Just wasn't able to find a ball that would work for me. The pro at our local center's shop suggested I try the new Nexus f (P+F). In the 4 leagues I've bowled in since getting that ball, my average has increased at least 10-15 pins in each league, in two of those leagues in three weeks using the Nexus I'm carrying a 193 average. This ball's action on medium to heavy oil is just awesome. And its forgiving as well if you miss a board or 2. It will find the pocket! Just a well designed ball bottom line!

Likes: Big Hook, great ball for Speed Dominant player or bowlers struggling on heavy oil. Ball is 2-3 boards stronger than Purple/Blue Nexus P+F. and about 3-4 feet earlier of a break point. Stroong hook and hard hitting.

Dislikes: Too early motion with Pin down drilling, wish I would drilled this ball weaker with a pin up drilling, just reads the lane too earlier.

LANE CONDITION

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): PBA Scorpion

COMMENTS

Layout: 5.5" x 5" x 60 degrees

The Nexxus Double X at 5.5 x 5 x 60 degrees has plenty of length through the front part of the lane and a high response to friction in the backend.   This ball allowed me to feed the ball through the middle of the lane to the track area and see a strong but predictable and controlled ball motion with continuation through the pins.  After the lanes transitioned and started to burn up, I was able to move deeper effortlessly and still see a strong backend motion.

I compared this ball to another Nexxus Double X drilled 4 x 4.5 x 45 degrees (pin under bridge).  The pin-under Nexxus delivered more roll in the midlane with a less angular reaction to friction and allowed me to play the lanes straighter from further out.

The Nexxus Double X with this drilling tends to be better on lanes with crisp backends or higher friction typical house shot patterns.

Likes:   Clean through the heads, rolls heavy and continues hard.

Dislikes: Really agressive cover, need to keep it in head oil or it will burn off too much energy.  For me it was a condition specific ball.

I drilled this ball 55x5x30 no hole, left it at box finish.  This ball has found a home in my bag at the top end of my arsenal for long/med and med/heavy shots, especially flatter shots where heavy roll, control, and smooth hook are needed.  I use this ball predominantly on sport patterns or modified house shots with high volumes and low ratios.  This ball allows me to stay in my comfort zone on these patterns with a little higher ball speed and still lets me create mistake room.  I get a hard arcing motion, starting in the mids and continuing through the deck.  This ball will hook, I haven't found a pattern yet that I had to point this ball or not give the pocket away a little.
