Title: Nexxxus Æ’(P+S)
Post by: Ballreviews on June 26, 2012, 11:49:55 AM

- Core Type : Nexus Arrowhead (14-16#)
- Coverstock: f(P+S) Pearl
- Color: Bronze/Graphite All colors do vary somewhat from the picture shown.
- Factory Finish: 500 Siaair Micro Pad; Rough Buff
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
- RG max: 2.546
- RG min: 2.490
- RG diff: 0.056
- Hook Potential: 185 (Scale 10-200)
- Length: 120 (Scale 25-235)
- Typical Breakpoint Shape: 105 Smooth Arch (Scale Smooth Arc 10-Angular 100)
- Recommended Lane Condition: medium to heavy oil
- Description: The Addaptive ƒ (P+S) Pearl coverstock is Brunswick’s hottest innovation in performance enhancing additive chemistry. ƒ (P+S) describes our newest formula that combines our new (P)rojection and our new (S)nap additives together to create our most aggressive pearl coverstock to date. The Projection additive easily pushes the super aggressive coverstock down lane where the Snap additive connects with the lane for an extraordinary backend hook motion. Being able to combine multiple additives in a coverstock allows Brunswick to effectively fine tune the length, mid-lane and backend characteristics of the ball.
The Nexus Arrowhead core features a single density squared-off elliptical inner core that is dynamically designed to stay on line, enhancing downlane projection. This long and sleek core helps the Nexxxus Æ’ (P+S) preserve revs and ball speed into the backend of the lane which results in increased pin action and higher scores.
The Nexxxus Æ’ (P+S) is our strongest snapping pearl ball to date and extends the limits of our Ball Comparison chart. With its High Gloss finish, the Nexxxus Æ’ (P+S) offers our highest breakpoint shape potential & most continuation of any Brunswick ball to date. With an extraordinary ball motion the Nexxxus Æ’ (P+S) skids easily through the front, saves axis rotation in the mid-lane and grabs the backend for unbelievable snap on medium to heavy oil lane conditions.
The Nexxxus Æ’ (P+S) can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for asymmetric bowling balls.
At Brunswick, the unique core shape of each individual ball is used for weights from 14 to 16 pounds. This approach to lightweight ball engineering provides bowlers with consistent ball reaction characteristics across this weight range. At 12 and 13 pounds, Brunswick uses a generic core shape with a RG-differential that is close enough to the 14 to 16 pound shape so the same drilling instructions can be used.

Ball Reviewing      Layout Used
NeXXXus f(P+S)      60x5x30

Ball Surface              Oil Pattern Reviewed On
Factory Finish      Fresh THS

This ball read the oil like a solid, had the push through the fronts like a pearl, and the response to the friction like a very strong pearl or hybrid.  I was able to keep this ball in all of the oil and never saw that dead reaction of a pearl that pushed too far.  When pushed to the outside this ball came bouncing back like it was on a string.  It got through the pins very well.

I compared this ball to the Nexus f(P) and found it to be 8 – 4 stronger than the original Nexus pearl with also being more angular and cleaner through the fronts.  The XXX read the oil much better and eliminated the over under reaction I experience with the f(P) on the fresh conditions.

The strength of this ball is its response to friction.  This ball is very clean through the oil, like a pearl should be, but is so responsive to friction that it does not shoot through the breakpoint easily allowing you to move into the oil and really open up the lane.

I rate this ball a 9 out of 10.

Likes:The newest in Nexus series is spot on what I was looking for.  I had way too much gap in between my Nexus Solid to the Pearl.  This ball clears like the original pearl, but is 5 stronger at the end than the pearl was for me.  Haven't thrown this one on the fresh yet, but after seeing the continuation on carry down like I saw, I know it will have that much more in the back with fresh backends.

Likes: This reaction, in my opinion, fills a missing piece of the product line. As long as I have been throwing the big b I have never had a ball backend like this one. It gives you the great midlane read of the nexus series with that extra pop most have been searching for. A total game changer for the Brunswick product line. If you like strong midlane read with a ton of angular continuation this is the ball for you. Grab one at your local pro shop on August 8th, you will not be dissapointed!

Used the Nexxxus on a 44 foot Shark pattern last night.  It gave me the best look in my bag on tough pattern.  Started out straight up 9 board, and gradually moved in going from about 15 out to 11.  Nobody else really had a decent look except for one guy slow hooking the lane with a highly polished VG.

I can see why guys like the angular motion, but if you can stay behind the ball it gets that rolly continuation, characteristic of earlier good Brunswick stuff like the Vapor Zone

Brunswick was looking for a gamechanger with the release of the new Nexxxus and they have it!!!!  Typically pearl polished type of bowling balls provide bowlers with lots of length and recovery down lane but only do so on transitions and or drier lane conditions.  This ball redefines what that kind of pearl ball is capable as it gives a strong backend motion on fresher lane conditions.  The Nexxxus fits in between the the Nexus Solid and the Nexus Pearl respectively.  It is 2 and 1 straighter than the solid and 4 and 2 stronger than the pearl on the 41 foot house condition I tested it on.  The ball was just flat out impressive on our sports league when it came time for Shark and the US Open patterns.  I was able to shoot 600+ on both patterns and as long as I continued to chase the breakpoint in and down the lane the ball kept coming back and taking em down.  Pearl balls with a smoother, shinier surface also typically are not very versatile for most bowlers.  They usually are just reserved for that stand left throw right occasion.  This ball has a versatility to it that I have never had or witnessed in a longer stronger pearl ball.  If I change rotations it is like having two completely different bowling balls.  With less axis rotation it will roll and set into the pocket, but if I change and go around the ball at the release it will boomerang as much as I want it to.  It also will take many different spots in the bag with surface changes.  At 1500 Siaair it will hook early on a pattern with more volume and with shine it will play on a shorter thinner pattern after breakdown.  The Nexus technology has completely redefined what a long and strong ball will do.  It is like having 3 balls in one.  If you can vary your surfaces with this ball your options are endless.   Long and strong has been redefined as long, strong, and extremely versatile.  The new king of the pearls has arrived: the Nexxxus!!!!  If you haven't had a good look at Brunswick lately do your bowling scores a favor and check out the performance and versatility of the new technology.

Brunswick Nexxxus f(P+S)   aka Triple X
Bowler Stats:
Right handed
PAP: 4 ¾” right
Speed: 18-18.5 mph
Rev Rate:  450 rpm
Axis rotation: 20-45 degrees
Axis Tilt: 15 degrees

Layout:
40* by 5” by 45*

Purpose:
This ball is supposed to have the sharpest breakpoint of anything on the market while still covering a lot of boards. I drilled this ball with a favorite layout that I use for all of my asymmetric equipment so that I could really see what this ball can do and how it stands up to the Nexxus f(P+R) and other equipment in my bag. I wanted this ball to be the go-to ball for playing inside on medium to heavy conditions.

Observations:
OH MY GOD….. This ball is unreal. The Nexxxus f(P+S) gives me more recovery than any ball I have ever thrown, hands down.  On a fresh house shot, this ball should be illegal. It literally would have taken more skill to not hit the pocket. I could stand left, throw right and it watch it wheel back from everywhere. If I missed right, it checked up hard and made its way back to the pocket with a vengeance. If I tugged it inside, the polished cover would scoot through the hold and snap out 10s hard. There are several amazing things I found with this ball. First, although it was on a house shot, this ball gave me more miss room than anything I think I’ve ever owned. Secondly, this ball finishes incredibly strong through the pins. Even when I was playing really far in and/or tugged in inside a bit, the Nexxxus would still go hard through the rack and would still finish behind the 8 pin for me. A ball that lets you really get this far inside, while still maintaining incredible carry to snap out 10s and finish hard through the pins, is really a gem to find. Thirdly, when I really got in and slow hooked the lane, the ball still went through the pins like I was throwing it 18-18.5mph. This much retention of carry percentage is rare to find in my opinion. On Scorpion, the Nexxxus allowed me to stand further left, and throw further right than anything else (even my fresh Maxxxed-outs and the Double X Nexxus couldn’t loop the ball that much). On fresh Scorpion, I could play 4th arrow out to a break point of 6-7 with the Triple X, where as with the Double X, I could make a small parallel move inside to keep the ball in the heart of the pattern. As the Scorpion pattern broke down, the Triple X started looking even better. I could also really hit up the back of the ball and play up 5-6 with relative ease. I finished the night playing 5th arrow out to 9-10 at the breakpoint and was still leaving 9 pins from the insane entry angle being created. On medium length and medium volume patterns, you will see the Triple X hook about the same total amount as the Double X while definitely having more backend. When you get to heavier volumes of oil, this is when you are going to see more of the difference between the Triple X and Double X. On heavy oil, I have the Double X being generally a 3 board move inside with my feet and a board inside with my eyes in comparison to the new Triple X. Regardless,  you will see the Double X being smoother  overall than the Triple X. This isn’t to say that the Double X is smooth, because it isn’t, I’m just talking about it comparison to the Triple X. Although the ball excels with a decent amount of head oil, I found it very easy to change hand positions and float the ball through the fronts when needed. However, with the amount of recovery this ball has, it’s better adjustment to just jump inside because you can trust that this ball is coming back.

Final thoughts:
In my honest opinion, the Nexxxus f(P+S) is the ultimate league bowling ball. No other ball on the market is going to let you move in and take this much advantage of the pattern. Similarly, I see this being a great ball for me when medium to heavy sport conditions breakdown and have some defined friction to throw at, especially when I can start moving inside. This ball is going to be in my bag for a long time. It gives me a look I’ve never had before and gives me the confidence that when I throw this ball to the right, nothing can stop it from making its way back to the pocket! I honestly think this ball will win the “Ball of the year” title from various magazines and websites, although the new Maxxed-out give it a run for its money also! If you still think Brunswick doesn’t have a ball with any backend, I suggest you get with the times and give the Nexxxus a go. It’s truly a magnificent addition to my bag, and I believe it will be to yours as well.

If you have any questions regarding the Nexxxus f(P+S) or any other Brunswick or DV8 equipment, don’t hesitate to send me a message. Thanks for reading. Good luck and good bowling!

Nexxxus f(P+F)

I went with a negative pin placement on my first XXX, and it is one of the heaviest rolling balls I have ever thrown. I used a 2 - 3 in pin, pin about 3/4" outside of middle finger and MB at 30 degrees. This ball has worked really well on both the cheetah and viper patterns. It is great on the THS with heavy oil.

My second XXX was drilled with pin below fingers and MB at 45 degrees with weight hole. Ball rolls more than my Nexxus solid. Great on Shark and Scorpion patterns. But, I need to polish it for the THS because it hooks way too much.

I am a stroker/cranker with 400+ revs

COMMENTS

Likes:  This is the original Nexus pearl improved.  Stronger overall, with less over/under.  This one handles more volume, but when it sniffs some friction it becomes very impressive!  More recovery than any Brunswick pearl that I have used.  Go up the back more to have it roll more consistently, or get around it and watch it turn the corner.  Fun to use for sure!

Dislikes:  Have not found one yet.  The ball is as advertised for me.

Likes: I love this ball. Very clean through the heads, rev's quick in the midlane and has a strong arc to a smooth snap on the back ends. Comparing this ball to the Nexus Pearl, I was 3 boards farther inside with my feet and two boards with my mark. I know this number can vary with rev rates and lane conditions. I will be testing this ball sanded to 4000 and see how much more over hook I can get out of it. I expect this ball to be one of the top sellers of all the ball companies brands combined for the 2012/2013 season. The hit of this ball is most impressive, the NeXXXus is one of thee most hardest hitting balls I have ever thrown. I also love the color scheme. I love the darker colors, I hope Brunswick continues this for future releases. Thanks for reading my review.

Dislikes: None, I expect every style of Bowler will love this ball.

The Triple X Nexxxus is the newest addition to the Nexus line. Each addition to this line introduces improved length and backend motion. This release pushes the envelope even further. The cover is pearl and finished at with a Rough Buff finish.

I drilled 2 of these. First one is drilled with my favorite layout 70x5x40 no hole. This layout helps promote the length with a pretty angular backend. This can be used on house shots and broken down sport patterns after the lanes have developed a hook spot. When compared to the Nexus F(P) Pearl the Nexxxus is easily 5 and 2 stronger.

The second one is drilled 65x5x80 no hole. This layout will get the ball to react to the friction a little slower. This means the ball will be smoother when getting to the back end. I will use this on all types of patterns when they are fresh and a little tighter down lane. I can also continue to use this ball as the lanes break down and I start to move in. With a little more axis rotation the ball feeds right and responds quicker to the friction.

This ball is every bit as strong as the Nexxus F(P+R) just responds quicker to the friction. What amazes me about this ball is the ability to start a block with this ball and finish the block with this ball.

If your looking for a Pearl cover that has a ton of hook this will be the ball for you. Just put your favorite layout on this and strike away.

COMMENTS

Overall 9/10
The Brunswick Nexxxus f(P+S) will likely be a big hit for the big B. For those who have been looking for a strong skid/flip potential ball for use on medium or heavier THS, this is it. It also offered an above average look on the Sport shot. Recall the original Nexus Pearl also created high entry angles, but that ball was no where near as strong an overall ball reaction. It was also much more condition specific. Not so with the Triple X. Although this ball is clean through the fronts, the good read in the midlane meant we rarely blew through the breakpoint while still being very strong on the backends.  Brunswick fans will have a heck of a lot to cheer about with this offering.

COMMENTS

Layout: 5.5" x 5" x 60 degrees

The Nexxxus Triple has plenty of length through the front part of the lane and a high response to friction in the backend.   This ball allowed me to feed the ball through the middle of the lane to the track area and see a strong but predictable and controlled ball motion with continuation through the pins.  After the lanes transitioned and started to burn up, I was able to move deeper but had to open my angles wider than anticipated.

I compared this ball to a Nexxus Double X drilled 5.5 x 5 x 60 degrees.  The Double X and Triple X delivered similar length through the midlane surprisingly with the Triple X being more angular at the breakpoint.

This ball made my Nexus Solid look like it was urethane.  Easily 4-5 boards more overall hook, and less “wiggle” downlane.  I was impressed at how much this ball tractions on a high volume THS pattern with a low friction lane surface.

BALL REACTION

OOB: The XXX with the layout projects easily through the front part of the lane with ease and has a strong continuous roll. I had to change my initial axis rotation and axis tilt to get the ball finish on the backend. When is stayed behind the ball, it did not have that "snap" on the backend to get to the pocket. When I came around the side of the ball, (more of a "spinner" type of release), the ball had that jump into the pocket.  On the fresh, the ball had over/under reactions.
1000 abralon: On a fresh, 41-ft. house shot (heavy volume in the middle and out of bounds area 7 out down lane), the Nexxxus was excellent getting through the heads, revved up in the midlane and still drive through the pins with little or no deflection. I was able to play three different lines: play up the boards with a weak release, medium hook with a stronger release (medium axis rotation), and a deep inside angle with a high axis rotation (spinner-like). With this layout, I had 2 boards of pull area where the ball would just set and finish inside.
1500, Rough Buff:  I tried the Nexxxus with rough buff on a a house shot with burnt up track area (from the 6th - 11th boards).  Even though this ball was strong on the  fresh with surface, it showed its versatility on drier lanes with the polish. I was able to play between play between 3rd and 4th arrows and swinging it out to the track area at 40ft and it would not over react. It had a strong backend off the friction and drove through the pins.

COMMENTS

COMPARISONS

I compared the Nexxxus to the Nexus f(P) and C-(System) 4.5.

Nexus f(P) Pearl (layout: 70* x 5" x 30*): I compared the Nexus Pearl and the Nexxxus on the burnt up house shot.  The XXX definitely went about 2-3 feet further down the lane than the Pearl on the drier conditions. I threw a couple into the dry to quick with both and the Nexxxus still got to the breakpoint and had a strong, continuous finish. When I got the Pearl into the dry too fast, it would hook as soon as it hit the friction.  Overall, these 2 balls could be a combo as when one stops carrying, I can to go other and stay in the same spot.
C-System 4.5 (55* x 5" x 30*): the 4.5 goes longer than the Nexxxus and is stronger on the backend, as in it had a quicker reaction. The Nexxxus wouldn't jump off the friction (but with the layout, I wouldn't expect it to) but it would allow me to have some miss area unlike the 4.5 that might jump too quick off the friction or hydroplane in the oil. The Nexxxus would be ball to go to when the symmetric is deflecting off the pins.

OVERALL:  The new Nexxxus is a versatile ball. Sometimes the ball had the reaction of a solid and sometimes it acted like a pearl. It takes surface and polish easily and it's good looking ball.  No matter what line I played, when the ball hit the pocket, it had very little deflection and tears up the pins on light hits.  This ball is worthy of adding into anyone's arsenal.

BALL REACTION

I liked the ball with box finish, but I wanted more length and added Snake Oil to box finish! What I got was a few more feet of length and more angular at the breakpoint. The box finish is still very angular, but I wanted to create a different look from the other Nexus balls. It's allows me to move deeper as the track area starts to get toasty and conserve more energy for the breakpoint!

Breakpoint Shape: Angular

COMMENTS

Likes: Love the easy length and breakpoint shape. Great ball to move left and be inside of other righthanded bowlers. It allows me to get around some of the others on the right side so we're not competing for the same oil and line!

Dislikes: None if you use this ball when needed and if there's a lot of carrydown I use a Nexus solid drilled similar with Snake Oil on the coverstock!

This ball is amazing. It lets me bowl with little surface or with no surface on incredible amounts of oil. I can open my angles and the ball will still come back and hit like a tank. I compared this ball to my nexus pearl and this one is definitely stronger and also cleaner through the front. This ball is a really great buy!

The strengths of this ball are that it hooks on anything, its clean through the front part of the lane and is strong down lane.

This ball is just a beast I've been asked from alot of different people on what is the comparison between the Nexus f (p) and the Triple X, I simply put it as someone going into a sports car dealership on one side you see a Dodge Challenger with the Hemi engine and on the other side there is the Ferrari, 2 great sports cars but one on another level. The Triple X is a must have this ball can be thrown from the fresh block thru the break down block and does nothing but keeps coming and carry is ridicolus. This  a game changer I have mine drilled 45x5x45 it never stops coming!
Likes:
its gives you the ability to open the lane up without losing reaction and as the lanes breakdown it still stores the energy needed to keep u in the games without changing balls

COMMENTS

For the Nexxxus (P+S), I decided to go with my favorite layout for an asymmetrical ball. I have used this layout on each Rotor-cored Nexus ball with success, but had not tried it on the Arrowhead core. I've enjoyed both solids to the point where they are always in my bag and I sometimes have trouble deciding which one to throw. So needless to say, I am always excited about another Nexus release.

To be honest, I was not a huge fan of the original Nexus Pearl. To put it simply, we just didn't match up...it happens. So while I was excited for the Nexxxus (P+S) I was skeptical of another Nexus utilizing the Arrowhead core and pearl cover. Luckily, this ball matches up much better for me and gives me that strong angular motion I expected from the original Nexus Pearl.

On the 41' USBC White Pattern, I have the Nexxxus (P+S) hook potential just slightly weaker than the original Nexus Solid, but obviously, the pearl additive and Arrowhead core allow the ball to get a little further downlane before making that strong angular move I've come to expect with the Nexus series. That angularity is slightly more pronounced than than what I saw with the Nexus(p+f) and Nexxus(p+r).

I carry this ball along side a C-System Maxxed Out and fine them to be a good combination when deciding how to play a pattern. Sometimes you need the strong continuous motion of a symmetrical ball, and sometimes you need a ball that really gets kicked down lane. In the latter case, the Nexxxus(p+s) fits the bill. While I've only had the opportunity to throw this ball on league conditions, I am looking forward to throwing it on other patterns that really take advantage of it's quick response time.

16# 3-4 pin top weight 3

Drilled the ball with my favorite drilling 66 x 5 5/8 x 40. The pin ended up being above my middle finger with the cg kicked out with no hole needed.

This is by far the most hooking Brunswick ball to date.  Comparing it to the Nexxus, its about 4-5 boards stronger overall on the backend.  Its alot cleaner through the fronts than the Nexxus as well. It takes well to surface change if needed. It reacts like a solid for me with a little surface to it and when I shine it up and get around it, its got that pearl reaction.

Nexxxus OOB finish
50/4.5"/35 No X Hole
Condition: Kegel Autobahn 42'

The description is what it is. Projection + Snap. The only danger I found when using this ball on this pattern was opening up the angles too soon which would create a little over under.

I like to use this ball on this pattern after a couple games. I start with the Maxxed Out and then I can go to the Nexxxus. I was only using these two balls to give you guys a good review. Each week it was easy to get into trouble by moving too deep too soon with the Nexxxus and start leaving the 2-10 to 3-7 splits. But if you keep the angles tighter you can make a parallel move in and use the volume of oil in the middle to create hold, and the ball will do the rest. By the fourth game I was having too much fun moving left and watching the ball come back from everywhere leaving solid 9's.

On house shots this ball hooks from everywhere, but you need to be more careful on the sport shots as this ball will be very clean and retain a lot of energy for the back end.

Definitely longer and snappier than the Nexus pearl, but they compliment each other very well!!

COMMENTS

Likes: Strong Pearl ball that is very angular

Dislikes: Non

Ball # 1, Pin up: This ball is very strong off the spot and is at at least 3 boards stronger than the Nexxus F(P+R) downlane. I can use this ball when I need a stronger downlane reaction with defined friction.

Ball # 2, Pin down: This ball is a little smoother reacting than my pin up ball, and I use when the other one is hooking too much down lane. I can use this ball to play deeper lines while still having the strong backend reaction.

This is my open up the lane, come back from anywhere, and shred the rack ball! Even though is has the arrowhead core which is a little weaker than the rotor core, this ball is more continuous down lane than the Nexxus F(P+R). It can handle medium and heavier oil conditions. With my higher rev rate, I can still control this ball and keep it from over reacting. The Nexxxus f(P+S) is clean through the front part of the lane and doesn't hook early. If you are looking for a strong backend reacting pearlized ball, this one won't disappoint.

I drilled two NeXXXus balls:
#1 - Pin Up - 4 x 65
#2 - Pin Up - 5 1/8 x 75

This might be the most usable ball in the Nexus line.  This ball clears the front part of the lane better than the Nexus and NeXXus balls.  However as all the other Nexus balls the NeXXXus provides a great mid-lane roll.  On the backend of the of the lane the NeXXXus provides the most angle of all the NeXXXus balls.  Comparing the two NeXXXus balls that I drilled I get a very similar reaction, but the ball with the longer pin provides the most skid through the front part of the lane with the most angular reaction on the backend.

I drilled the first NeXXXus like my Nexus(p).  While the NeXXXus is better used for heavier oiled lanes and provides a stronger backend reaction which allows it to be used more on lanes with carry down.

Strengths – Usability of this ball.  The NeXXXus has been the most useable ball of the NeXXXus line.  The rough bough finish gives the ball the ability to clear the front part of the lane which conserves enough energy for the ball to make a very strong and angular reaction down lane.  The new core design allows the ball to pick up nicely in the midlane, which is what makes the ball have a controllable angular reaction.

Weakness -  Occassionly this ball was a little to strong  overall.  This is where the other great balls come into play.
