Nexus Æ’(P) Pearl
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
High Performance
Core Type : Nexus Arrowhead (14-16#)
Coverstock: Addaptive ƒ(P) Pearl
Color: 3-Color, Black, Blue and Silver Pearl
Factory Finish: 500; 1,500 Siaair Micro Pad; Rough Buff Finish
- A few tiny pit holes in the cover stock of the ball are normal
RG max: 2.558
RG min: 2.502
RG diff: 0.056
Average RG: 3.8 of 10
Hook Potential: 150 (Scale 10-185)
Length: 115 (Scale 25-235)
Typical Breakpoint Shape: 95 Angular (Scale Smooth Arc 10-Angular 100)
Recommended Lane Condition: Oily
Description: The Addaptive ƒ(P) Pearl coverstock is Brunswick’s newest innovation in performance enhancing additive chemistry. ƒ(P) describes our latest ƒormula that combines our new (P)rojection additive with an aggressive reactive coverstock to skid easily down the lane, saving axis rotation for the backend that results in higher entry angles into the pocket and improved ball motion through the pins. Being able to utilize performance enhancing additives in a coverstock allows Brunswick to effectively fine tune the length, mid-lane and backend characteristics of the ball motion.
The new Nexus Arrowhead core features a single density squared-off elliptical inner core that is dynamically designed to stay on line, enhancing downlane projection. This long and sleek core helps the Nexus ƒ(P) preserve revs and ball speed into the backend of the lane which results in increased pin action and higher scores.
With its Rough Buff Finish, the Nexus ƒ(P) projects easily through the front, storing axis rotation and revolutions in the mid-lane while gripping the backend for a strong continuous motion that slices through the pins with ease on medium oil lane conditions.
The Nexus ƒ(P) can be drilled using the standard drilling techniques developed for asymmetric bowling balls.
The unique core shape of each individual ball is used for weights from 14 to 16 pounds. This approach to lightweight ball engineering provides bowlers with consistent ball reaction characteristics across this weight range. At 12 and 13 pounds, Brunswick uses a generic core shape with a RG-differential that is close enough to the 14 to 16 pound shape so the same drilling instructions can be used.

Nexus Pearl F (P)

Releasing November 2011, the Nexus F (P), is Brunswick’s newest high performance ball. To explain the name of the ball; the first additive F is for Formula, and the second additive P is for Projection. The down lane response of the Nexus Pearl is vastly better than any pearl I have ever thrown. This ball easily makes it through the heads without wasting energy. Then, the ball motion is so continuous when the Nexus Pearl hits the friction; it is like a bomb ready to explode. All of my Nexus Pearl’s energy is preserved for when it is time to attack those pins. Before the ball hits the pins, it seems to me that the pins just jump away from this ball before it hits them. With the Nexus Pearl’s strong down lane reaction, I would move out of the way too. Now, if your Nexus SOLID is reading to early; I would recommend switching to the Nexus Pearl to create better projection and pin carry. My recent research shows me that I cannot shoot a perfect series of 900 without my Nexus Pearl, because I am going to need this ball when it time to change balls in the second or third game. I am very impressed with what I have seen so far from my Nexus Pearl.

·         I use my Nexus Pearl during transition on medium volume house shots.

·         I use this ball when my Nexus solid is reading the lanes to early.

Likes: I really like how the ball cleans the heads with ease! It glides down the lane and makes a really nice move, almost skid/flip type reaction at the breakpoint! When the Nexus Solid is too much ball, then this is the one to go to. I used the dual angle layout of 60deg x 4-7/16" x 35deg, which placed the pin above my ring finger, mb right of thumb and no weight hole.

Dislikes: None as of yet, if you use it when needed and not try to force it to work on heavier oil patterns.

This ball is great to use when the Nexus Solid is hooking too much without having to move 5 boards left.  The core in the Nexus Pearl helps retain the energy through the whole lane.  The Nexus Pearl is about 4 boards stronger overall than the Ulti-Max.  I really like how well this ball clears the heads and makes a strong move downlane.  I can get inside of everyone when the lanes open up.  The Nexus Pearl has a great overall motion and can handle heavier oil conditions as well.  The Nexus Pearl works good on Sport type oil conditions or House oil conditions.  I have recently bowled a 300 game with the Nexus Solid in an early league.  I asssited with a demo recently, and most of the few people liked the strong continuous motion of the Nexus Pearl.  Also, there are quite a few people who have purchased the Nexus Pearl in my area and really like the motion in league play or tournaments.  If you are looking for a strong Pearl that you can use on most any condition, consider this ball.

picks up nicely without losing much energy.
Can keep chasing the shot in, without worrying about losing your carry.

Looks good!

Dislikes: Tends to have over under on longer patterns.
Problem solved with a light scuff of the track, using a 2000 abrylon pad.

tends to roll out on fresh med. to shorter patterns.

Problem solved with a KARMA SOLID

Bowler’s Specs:

Ball Speed: 18.5 mph

Rev Rate: 400-425 rpm

Axis Tilt: 11 degrees

Axis Rotation: 30-45 degrees

Layout:

50* by 5” by 45*

Purpose:

I really wanted this ball to serve as a more angular counterpart to the Wicked Siege but to be close enough to replace it when the time comes. Although with the same layout, I knew the Nexus Pearl out of the box would be much more responsive and angular off of the spot than the Wicked. Thus, in order to bring the reaction a little closer together, I would scuff with a 4000 grit pad when needed. Also, I know I can always use a 4000 grit pad to help tame the cover ever so slightly for Nationals and other sport shots. Nevertheless, I hoped it could be my ball for when a track area developed and I could be able to move DEEP inside and still get it to come back

On the lanes:

WOW!!! THIS BALL IS FLAT OUT AMAZING! As you can tell by my specs above, with my lower tilt and lower axis rotation, a lot of my scoring problems come from when I have to move in deep yet still send the ball out to the dry. I can make any ball come back to the pocket from such a line but the Nexus Pearl is the best I’ve thrown at turning the corner hard and coming back to the pocket with plenty of authority. It’s the only ball I’ve thrown that seems to only get better the deeper I move in. I’ve thrown this ball for at least 2 dozen games now and I can honestly say that no matter how deep I played and no matter the pattern, I have yet to leave a weak 10 pin with this ball! That’s amazing coming from a guy who has serious carry issues when playing in deep. Not only does it make sure it gets all the way back to the pocket, but I’ve never seen a ball come off my hand from such a deep line and still finish so hard through the back of the pin deck. Yes, I am particularly giddy over the ball reaction my Nexus Pearl gives me! Yet another thing I really love about this ball is that it allows for the exploitation of more area on the lane. Previously, if I used a really strong ball to jump way inside and use the created track from other players, the ball might read the lane before the defined breakpoint, thus defeating the purpose of jumping in for more area. On the same note, if I were to move in and use a ball that gets down lane easily, then the ball will get to the defined breakpoint but might not be able to make it all the way back to the pocket (and might not have enough energy if it did make it back to pocket). The Nexus Pearl is perfect for such and occasion. Even as tougher patterns burn up, I can pull out the Nexus Pearl, jump in deeper, still wheel it out to the breakpoint, and not have to worry about it reading the pattern at the wrong time or not coming back. THAT IS THE NEXUS PEARL’S BREAD AND BUTTER!

When this ball makes its move, nothing can stop it (besides the curtain past the pin deck!). My house shot is only an 8:1 ratio, so you don’t have 20 boards to hit, but you still have a little miss room. I have witnesses that would testify to me playing 4th arrow out to 9, completely missing it at the bottom of the swing, sending wayyyyy wide it out to the 3 board, and it still roaring back to the pocket and slapping the 10 out! I swear that would have been a washout with any other ball on the market today.

I’ll be honest, besides house shots, I haven’t really thrown this ball much on a fresh sport pattern. On such patterns, I prefer to be much straighter throughout the lane for the first game or so. After which, I would use the Nexus Pearl to exploit the track area. So, to me, this ball won’t be the go-to ball on fresh sport patterns, but it’s an absolute must for when they start to burn up. PERFECT FOR THE BURN AT NATIONALS! Fresh House Shot? The Nexus Pearl with decimate it! The other thing I’ll say is that just because this ball has some extra push through the fronts, that doesn’t mean that this is a ball for dry lanes. It still does need some oil. Anything from medium oil and up and it’s golden!

Comparisons:

Overall, I would say that the Nexus Pearl is about 3 boards weaker than the Nexus Solid (with same layout) but that is due to the extra push through the fronts. That being said, the Pearl obviously does have much more backend than the Solid. Both in a strong response and a lot of continuation though the pins. Compared to the Wicked Siege, I would estimate the Nexus Pearl to be 1 board stronger than the Wicked, also with more downlane push and a more angular backend. Side by Side, I have the Nexus Pearl to also be 2-3 boards stronger than the Ulti-Max with even more push through the heads and even faster response to friction. The biggest difference I find is that, on the whole, the Nexus Pearl is more continuous then the Ulti-Max and gets into a heavier roll through the pins.

Conclusion:

JUST GET ONE ALREADY! This ball offers a reaction I’ve never seen before and has given me the ability to exploit the lanes in new ways. House shots and transitioning sport shots have met their match with this ball. If you are going to Nationals, you have to have this ball in your bag for when the track burns up. I already know that mine is going with me to Baton Rouge. This is the ball for you if you are looking for something that you can really move in with and still get to come back with plenty of angle and continuation. I would put this ball up against any ball on the market, but you won’t find a ball that works as well as the Nexus Pearl from deeper inside as the pattern transitions.

 COMMENTS
Carry - if you hit the pocket with this ball it carries excellently. Ten pins just seem to fall off the lanes.
Likes - Still picks up even in transition and carry down. If it gets to the pocket it strikes. Hands down
Dislikes - most seven pins of any ball I've had
Other - This is the ball that converted me back to the big b bandwagon.  It is a great all around ball to bring out of your bag at the start of  the day.

For me this ball is great when there is over under or carrydown on the  lanes. The ball is clean through the heads and picks up in true  Brunswick fashion with the smooth strong motion to the pocket that gets a  flush hit almost everytime. I don't know how thereof it, but they  managed to produce length and still have the mid lane so that the ball  isn't skidding and creating a sharp break point. This ball really will  take carry out of the equation.

COMMENTS

Likes:Drilled the Nexus Pearl for my Daughter Ashley. Her slower ball speed matches up well to this ball. The most impressive thing about this ball is how well it reads the lane and the amount of miss area it gives her. The more she has used this ball and she uses it alot, the more hook she gets from it. Average hit for a #14 ball but how impressive the ball is at reading the oil and dry. Comparing to the Ulti-Max by Carmen, the Nexus is smoother off the breakpoint but both have alot of simiarlity in their motion.

Dislikes: Not intended for heavy oil unless you have the hand of Sean Rash. Hoping to see more of this ball on the tour shows.

Likes: This ball has termandous length for those dry conditions.  You can use this ball when the lanes break down as the others are saying.  It's also a great ball for heavy carry down because it lets you move way to the right and play straight or even down and in.

Dislikes: This is not going to be the most versitile ball.  Only use this to add to your arsenal of balls.

In order to get strikes with this ball, you have to play the dirt or the twig shot.  This ball has to go between second and first arrow or over first arrow in order to hook.  This ball can also be a good ball if you're struggling to get the angle into the pocket if you have to give the pocket away on your heavy hooking ball.  You can move way right and start the ball over the outside boards.  I don't see a problem this ball taking off toward the brooklyn like you'd see with a ball like the Red Zone for example or the Zone Classic.  It's got length and only hooks on dry boards.

Likes: This ball is awesome down lane on medium to light condtions or when there are clean backends or shorter patterns.  Brunswick really has a winner with this ball, since it gets down lane so smoothly and has so much stored energy, it hits like no other pearl I have seen.  It is more angular than people would think it would be off the friction, with a strong continuous action through the pins.  My favorite drilling has been a 70 x 5 x 35.  Very angular and strong ball.

Dislikes: The only drawback that I see is its really sensitive to oil and carry down.  There is a pretty big gap between this ball and the Nexus Solid.

LANE CONDITION

42 foot Kegel Stone Street pattern (THS)

COMMENTS

The Nexus f(P) pearl is very clean through the fronts with a strong backend move.  I would call it long and strong, but not really skid/flip.  From our tests, it generated over 7 degrees of entry angle.  Nevertheless, on the fresh Stone Street pattern, it was too prone to over/under.  This ball really prefers broken down patterns where you really need a ball to clear the heads and still make a nice move.  When looking at the Brunswick lineup, the Versa-Max is closest in board coverage, but is more predictable than the Nexus f(P).
On the right conditions, there is a lot to like about this ball reaction.  However, I can see some limitations in the types of conditions this ball will be usable on.

COMMENTS

I love the way this ball gets through the front part of the lane and turns hard when it hits the friction down lane. The Nexus F(P) is really good as the second ball out of my bag, and usually it’s my last ball change of the night. When the Nexus F(P+F) and/or Nexxus F(P+R) are reading the lanes too early, I can switch to the Nexus F(P) which allows me to get the ball a little further down the lane before it makes its move to the pocket. When I use this ball in league it is forgiving when I get the ball going a little right, it will still recover and make a strong move through the pins. It is definitely a ball to keep in your bag.

Likes: very clean, reads mids well, revs hard and drives at the end of the pattern.

Dislikes:  Can get jumpy on THS if the cover gets too shiny.

Drilled 55x5x30 with a hole on the PAP.  I keep this ball at P4000 Abralon to smooth out the backend a little (for me) and keep it from getting squirely.  This is my go to ball for longer THS where there is a defined friction area to throw at.  My one/two combo with this ball is the Maxxed out (same drilling, OOB).  The Nexus Pearl is about 5-6 feet longer and sharper at the breakpoint than my Maxxed out, giving me an option to go to when the Maxxed Out is burning up or taking off too early.
