Normally light changes speed as it moves from one medium to another (for example, from air into the glass of the prism). When we tried it with a bowling ball it took us an hour to clean up the mess.
Instead of that, Its time to see how the new Brunswick Bowling #Prism #Solid moves through the medium of oil as Lane Side Reviews takes this beast to the lanes.  Here's a spoiler:  This thing HOOKS!

COMMENTS

The Prism Solid is a very and I mean very STRONG rolling ball.  The Solid reminds me on a Pitbull with about 4 feet sooner Midland roll and more angular backend motion. The surface on this ball and the core makes this ball carve up heavy oil patterns and flat sport patterns.  If you are looking for a ball for sport patterns, the Prism Solid is definitely the way to go

The Prism Solid is a big ball with a lot of teeth on heavier volume patterns. This ball provides a consistent, stable roll with great motion through the pins. With the lower RG, this ball is going to give you the motion you want when the patterns are longer and heavier. If you loved the Nirvana lines, this ball is much more powerful than the Nirvanas. I don’t have a high rev rate or a lot of tilt, and this ball allows me to keep my angles straighter without sacrificing hitting power on the backend. I like this ball a lot and know that on any condition with heavier volumes, this ball will be in my bag.

The Prism Solid is the strongest and earliest hooking ball in the Brunswick lineup to date.  It starts reading the lane fairly early but maintains axis rotation very well for a strong ball.  This Prism makes a much bigger move at the breakpoint then you would think based on the amount of surface out of the box.  Slicker lane conditions are no match for this ball.  It allowed me to play 4th arrow easily on our fresh house shot.  The pin carry with Dynamicore was very good as well.  If you are looking for a great heavier oil ball you must check out the Prism Solid!

My Prism Solid is drilled 40x4x45 with the "DOT" just grazing the top right corner of my ring finger with the intention of having something to use on fresh slick lanes as the Kingpin Rule just wasn't for me and my Conspiracy Solid has been logging a lot of games.

I bowl in what I consider to be a pretty slick house where my Conspiracy Solid (my measuring stick for heavy oil balls) gets a fair bit of play and the Prism Solid was too much ball by the middle of game 2.  The Prism Solid is quick to traction and gets into a roll sooner than anything in my bag yet still has some shape left for the back end.  In order to see if I could use it for an entire league set I added a little polish to it.  I got the length that I wanted but it really negated the strength of this ball - its traction.

It is the earliest and one of the heaviest rolling pieces I have drilled since probably the Endless Nightmare.  Its hard to believe, but the Conspiracy Solid is actually a logical step down (more length, turns over a little more).  The Prism Solid seems to rev up a bit easier than the Kingpin Rule and rounds the corner more evenly making it my preferred choice for the slickest of oils.  I could probably get more use out of the Prism Solid by having drilled it with a slightly longer + taller pin and have suggested such layouts to my customers so that they can open their angles on heavy oil.  However, for the Prism Solid serves its purpose in my bag by tractioning on fresh heavy oil + burning a huge hole in the track for me to use as bump.

The most interesting comparison for this ball is to the Prism Hybrid with the identical layout.  Honestly, it was hard for me to believe how the same weight block shelled with such a different cover could lead to such a vastly different ball motion.  The Prism Hybrid is very clean (almost pearl clean) and very responsive to the friction.  I have had to remove the polish on the Hybrid with a 3k to calm it down and it fits just under my Conspiracy Solid as my go to for all purpose ball motion on medium/heavy oil.  As somebody speed/rev matched, I know that I will be using the hybrid on more patterns, while the Solid is here to create traction when I bowl on 30mls+ patterns.

I recommend the Prism Solid to anybody needing some serious help to get their ball to pick up.  This ball will be loved by the 20mph flame throwers but will also be in play for us mere mortals when facing high volumes of oil.  If you are a looking for a new ball to use in league play for above average oil then check out the hybrid and kill that rough buff with a 3k pad.

Prism Solid

Heavy oil?  No problem for the Prism Solid.  This ball blew me away on so many levels.  First of all it has such a strong cover, I thought it would burn up right away, but it gets through the front part of the lanes really well.  Its responsiveness off the friction demonstrates its ability to hold its power, and releases a strong move through the pin deck.  This may be one of the strongest bowling balls I’ve used.  I haven’t been able to use it much, as I haven’t bowled on many conditions where the oil volume has been on the heavy side.  I’ve had success using it early in league, or on longer sport patterns.  This is an impressive ball for heavy oil conditions.  If you’re a bowler looking for a little help when the lanes are oily, this ball is for you.  Or if you’re like me with a moderate rev rate and ball speed, it allows you to get in where the high rev players are playing and create great ball motion to attack the lanes. Rev Rate 300 - 315

Ball speed 15 mph

Tilt 13 degrees

ball wt 15 lbs

PAP  4 3/4 over x 3/4 up

Layout  65 x 2 x 35

right handed

This ball, in a word, is aggressive.  The Prism chews through heavy oil yet does not start up too early.  The 65 x 2 x 35 layout gives me the ability to move right and keep the angles in front of me which gives me a much better look at the pocket and allows for a better entry angle.  With my modest rev rate, I tend to have carry problems playing deeper lines on heavier patterns.  I first tried the box finish on a THS.  Very strong when encountering friction, I moved a couple boards in and the Prism smoothed out the over/under condition.  I then applied Brunswick Compound to the ball and found I was able to get the ball down lane a bit more yet not over react.  The Prism was very smooth and strong through the back ends and pin deck.  The Prism line, with the original Prism, the Prism Hybrid and Prism warp make up a complete, asymmetrical arsenal for most any lane condition.
