In creating the Riot Zone Purple Pearl Brunswick has optimized the ball reaction variables to create a Proactive choice for stronger players and broken down lane conditions. The coverstock was developed by starting with the successful DTX base coverstock used in the HPD, pearlizing it and optimizing the Proactive particle blend to create a DTX-2 traction rated cover that clears the front part of the lane cleanly while still kicking hard in the back end. The core used in the ball was designed to compliment and maximize the benefits derived from the updated coverstock formulation.

The dual density shaped core developed for use in the ball positions a large portion of the overall core mass toward the perimeter of the ball, raising the overall Rg, which helps push the ball down the lane allowing it to be used on medium to drier lane conditions. The high density puddle on the bottom lobe of the core allows it to maintain a medium high differential Rg, creating a reasonable amount of track flare to maintain strength in the back ends.

Even though the ball creates more length and back end than other Proactives to date it still retains the traction characteristics of Proactive coverstocks that yield a smooth and strong back end by blending out the over/under reactions associated with typical house conditions and shorter oil patterns.

The specifications are: Color: Purple Pearl; Coverstock: Proactive DTX-2 Urethane; Surface Factory Finish: Trizact Cerium Oxide; Available Weights: 10-16 lbs.; Part Number: 60-103113; Hook Potential: 20-12 (dull/shiny); Typical Length: 5; Typical Back End: 12; RG Maximum: 2.626; RG Minimum: 2.578; RG Differential: 0.048; Average RG: 5.0.

This new Brunswick ball is a real success for me.  I own a Track Champ and Contender also, this ball is a near perfect addition to those.  Then those two particle balls burn up in the heads, I pull this one out and it takes the line perfectly.  I can throw this ball in fresh oil or on a Third shift.  For the sudden snap at the end it still carries the corners with no problem and it hits like a ton.  I think this is a real winner from Brunswick.  I owned a Jade Quantum when they first came out and I wrecked it for not knowing how to take care of the coverstock, I wish they would have told us that sooner but now I'm not gonna worry about it, I just know how to take care of the riot.  This ball is one of a million.

I agree with Jeff McCorvey on this one. Finally a "Particle" Ball that even the heavy handed player can use.  This ball actually has enough stuff to get down the lane and around the corner even if the the heads aren't glass.  Don't get me wrong its still not a dry lane ball but thats what the Missle is for.

This is the first particle ball I've seen all types of players use. It's a nice combination of Higher Rg's (perimeter weighted) and a not to agressive coverstock, it makes you wonder what's next from Brunswick.

My first proactive was a deep violet that I drilled about 12 months ago and it was great for me.  The Riot Zone is advertised as getting a little more length and having a strong back end.  I drilled it just like the deep violet ( basically it was a pin in ball that I stacked under the ring finger ).  Out of the box it was pretty much as advertised, a little tamer than the deep violet with more length and and strong back end for a proactive.  The roll pattern is very similar and if you like the other Zones you will like this one.  One the other hand, if you don't like Zones you aren't going to like this one either.  If, however you are one of those people that has never tried a Zone because you hear they roll too early, or they don't "open up the lane" as good as some other balls, you might reconsider.  For lower rev player who don't have a lot of axis tilt and typically play a controlled swing area the proactive zones are a good choice and the Riot Zone may be one of the most versatile yet.  It definitely still has enough punch to move into some oil with it, but it clears the heads better than some people would have you believe.

I also drilled out a Storm El Nino 2000 at the same time and will make comparisons between it and the Riot Zone when I do my 2000 review.

At first when I got the Riot Zone-Pro I did not care for it too much.  I did not see the length in it that was advertised.  I got more length with my Navy Quantum.  It tamed down quite a bit with some games on it, and it is definitely the lengthiest of the ProActives.  I have the Riot Zone drilled leverage with the pin at 12:00.  It slides through the heads fairly cleanly, and has the most back-end I have seen of the ProActives.  The Contact Zone-Pro also comes close in comparable back end.  These last two ProActives (the Riot and Contact) do have the most backends of the ProActives I have thrown.  The Riot also takes to polishing very well.  Of course it works well with the Trizact System, but also polishes easy with Reaction Plus or Finesse.  Power players should love the Riot, and strokers on medium conditions.  Not a ProActive for heavy oil.

I drilled a Riot for a full roller tonight and all he could say was WOW !!! He wanted a ball to hook a tad more than his Speed Zone and the Riot I had was almost identical in pin placement etc so we went that route.

With a 7:30 pin placement 1.5" left of thumbhole and a starting top weight of 3.1 oz we got a ball that hooks about 8 boards more than his Speed Zone.

HE could move left of the big middle dot !! WOW !! Impressive !!! HE loves it.

Very smooth reaction with enough pop at the pins to make them fly.

Excellent choice for a full roller since it doesn't overhook and it doesn't roll too early to cause flare problems.

I recently purchased a second hand Riot Zone from a friend (it was a good deal even if I didn't really need it ). I had it resurfaced and drilled based on Brunswick's # 1 drilling pattern (check it out on their homepage ). It's a very good ball for medium oiled lane conditions. I was  standing at the 30 th board and swinging it down to 13 and it made a nice smooth arching motion to the pocket with a heavy roll. It keeps that pins low and hits pretty hard. I was surprised since I've heard and read  that Brunswick equipment seem to roll out. Well, that's not the case here.

I bought the riot zone and drilled it on label with a 5 inch pin and it is about at a 1:00 position according to my grip or a 45' angle to my axis. I think that this ball could be used on alot of conditions with this drilling. I have used it on alot of shots I would recomend this ball for the league shot and for the tournament bowler. For the tournament bowler I would not recomend it until the lanes break down a little on a fresh pattern it doesn't react so well. I can move very far left and still carry or in terms get the ball to roll up. The ball is set up to have max flare and I think this pattern allows the ball to be very versital on the lane. This ball has a nice back end on it, I very rarly leave soft tens with it.

I just drilled this ball up today and used it for the first time and its not to bad of a ball, granted I only used it for 3 games on fresh oil and don't know how it is going to work in a tournament with oil breakdown but it was pretty good.  I got it drilled on advice from a ball driller for a national retail company and he suggested I try with the pin just above the middle finger (I am a righty) and the cg out to the right of my fingers, this drilling is supposed to go long but not to long with a greater reaction.  I used the same size insert in my middle finger but i got the ring finger insert 1 size bigger.  So when I throw the ball I have a little more than average speed and I put at lot into the ball, and I like to throw up the outside and let it come in.  So I stood 11 board with this ball and threw over the 4 board, and this ball just skidded and skidded till and then broke hard for the pocket, I wasn't throwing the ball really well so I left a lot of 10's and 6-10's cause I was tugging the ball. But all in all this is a good ball for just about any type of thrower.

I bought this ball in December as a replacement for my HPD because after a year of use it
had stopped hooking as much as I wanted it to. Well I don't think this ball is as good as the
HPD because its not nearly as versatile. It works good on fresh backends and also on drier
lanes with a bigger hook. On those two conditions it doesn't leave many ten pins and has
excellent carry, but when its not on those two conditions the carry is not nearly as good.
Overall I give this ball an 8 out of 10 because its not very versatile but it will work good on
certain conditions.

ball:  16lbs, pin in 2.5 oz top weight
drilling:  pin placed above the ring finger, with the cg in the middle of my palm
This is a good ball for wet/dry, medium/medium.  It does not like floods, and will not roll through the backend if it is wet with carrydown.  Put it on wet/dry and you get alot of backend once it gets off the oil.

I bought this ball used and without it being baked it still had alot on it, even though it is not drilled very aggressive.

Hello everybody,

This is a great ball. It will go down the lane and with a snap of the fingers the ball comes traveling back to the pocket without any worries.

I got this ball about a year ago because i wanted a ball that push through the oil and then hit the backend and hook back. I was priity happy with the ball as it did just that pushing through the oil well. The only fault i could see with this ball is it doesent give that great pin reaction so if you do not put that many revs on the ball you may want a ball with more reation. So in conclusion a good ball!

If you can find one of theses balls still around, get it! I've had mine in the closet for a year or so, but I decided to take it to the Lilac City Tournamnet in Rochester N.Y. the track area was fried and I used this ball around 16 out to 8 and hit the pocket with dead flush hits! won a ton of brackets! bowled 689 when others around me were struggling to shoot 550! great go to ball when lanes are broken down won't over react!
