SMOOOOOOOOOTH and STRONG!!! Having a reactive ball as a rebirth of one of the best urethane balls in history I was a little skeptical, but they NAILED IT!! This ball reaction feels like a smooth strong urethane ball how is sets up off of the spot and gets into a roll. The best part is you get the hit of a resin ball. The ball looks like it going to over hook and go through the face, but it stands up at the last second for a high flush hit. The Dynamicore in combination with consistent high flush hits is a beautiful thing to watch go through the rack. This will definitely have a spot in my bag; especially for PBA events. Very predictable ball motion. I'm glad I didn't touch the surface as Eric Krauss suggested. I was nervous with a 360/1,000 out of the box, but it fits this ball perfectly. Brunswick Bowling is knocking the new symmetrical balls out of the park!! ...Did I mention it has DOT Technology with a 4 year warranty.

Never threw the OG Phantom, but this Vintage Phantom is phenomenal.  The Phantom rolls very smooth through the midlane and a smooth flip motion on the backend.  Anyone that threw the original Phantom, trust me you will not be disappointed with the remake Vintage Phantom

The Vintage Phantom is in some ways a throwback ball and in others it's on the cutting edge of technology.  Featuring industry leading concepts like DOT technology and DynamiCore, the performance of this ball is outstanding when an option is needed for controllability and continuation through the pins.

The low differential in this ball means that it will not flare nearly as much as most new balls; a tribute to the original Phantom.  But it hits hard and goes through the pins properly to provide the bowler with maximum opportunity to strike.

For me, this ball is great on sport and tournament type patterns as it keeps me from getting into trouble with either early hook or a big flip off the the back of the pattern.  You won't see either of those reactions with this ball.

It's a piece that every bowler should own, and a reaction that every arsenal needs.

I was super excited to see this release because this ball fills a great spot in the Brunswick line as the new benchmark, all-purpose type ball. The Phantom has a low RG and low DIFF, and with Dynamicore and DOT Technology, this ball is going to give you that predictable shape without sacrificing pin carry. I’ve thrown this ball on house shots and sport patterns. I can play straighter with it or open the lane, and all of the results are good. I really enjoyed the Magnitude .035 and this ball is all of that and then some. It’s a classic-looking ball, with a great legacy, that’s been updated for today’s game.

This is probably the most comprehensive review we've done here at Lane Side Reviews. In preparation for the release of the #VintagePhantom from Brunswick Bowling we managed to get our hands on the ORIGINAL 3 (Black, Slate and Crimson) and put them through their paces across 3 different days on three different patterns and compiled the averages for your viewing.
Does the Phantom live up to the hype or the history? You decide!

Drilled my Vintage Phantom 45x4x50 (pin in ring) and have kept it at box surface.  My intention for this ball was to have something to be a step up from my tired grey BTU as my struggles have historically always been on fresher patterns when I need to stay straighter.  The idea of this ball being marketed as Brunswick's IQ Tour was very appealing to me as I haven't had anything that has given me that shape as the Mag035 Solid was just a little too touchy given my ball roll.

Out of the box the Phantom was very easy to read.  It gives me plenty of traction, doesn't flare too much in the midlane and gives me a soft, controllable angle down the lane.  So far I have used it on our house pattern along with 2 Challenge Patterns (40' Mercury and 36' Pegasus).  The Phantom has been in play on all 3 patterns allowing me to get closer to the track, controlling my response off the friction and not doing very much down the lane.

I have found my best success keeping my speed up while getting right on top of the friction.  The further right I got my feet, the better my carry would be.  Softening up, circling the ball and moving in gave me plenty of predictability to get to the pocket, but I have struggled carrying once I have gotten past 3rd arrow, particularly on balls that were late seeing the friction.

Compared to other balls in the bag, it is one step cleaner and more angular than my Jagged Edge Solid, while being a little less responsive to the friction against my Mag035 Solid.  The general shape reminds me a lot of my BTU Solid, but able to handle heavier volumes of oil without relying on so much sandpaper.  I can definitely see the comparison between the Phantom and the IQ Tour and my eye tells me that the Phantom can handle just a tad more oil volume.

This is a great ball for staying straighter in the track, particularly when the lanes are a bit touchy and I recommend the Vintage Phantom for anybody looking to straighten out their angles.

The Vintage Phantom is a great medium condition type house shot ball.  This could very well be the benchmark ball for most bowlers.  It excels in any situation where a smoother reaction is needed.  This one likes straighter angles and will be the first ball out of the bag when controlling the friction.  This Phantom also possesses some of the characteristics of the urethane balls with the ability to better open angles once the lane breaks down.  Watching this it definitely reminds me of the IQ Tour type shape going down the lane.  If you are looking for a ball to blend out over under reactions on league and tough sport patterns the Phantom is your answer.

The Vintage Phantom was designed to perform on today’s lane conditions while reminding you of yesterday’s ball reaction. The low RG and low differential core paired with a strong cover and finish create a predictable, must-have ball motion.

I drilled this ball specifically for the lower RG and Diff numbers as I was looking for a predictable ball motion from a strong cover bowling ball. This ball is as advertised and I love the ball motion and hitting power it provides.

LANE CONDITION

The Brunswick Vintage Phantom is a must have in your bag! This ball is the jack of all trades and can be used on multiple lane conditions and angles. It is best used when you are able to keep your angles in front of you, i.e. medium to heavy oil, 360/1000 grit, as the ball is very smooth and strong at the breakpoint. The strong hit power allows the carry to maximize its potential. This is a good benchmark ball to use but this can also be a transition ball depending on your layout and surface adjustment. It is that good of a ball and gives you that type of option. Layout: 30 x 4 x 30 Finish: OOB

Length: 40'

Volume: 22mls

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): THS

The Phantom is a great benchmark ball that allows me to keep the ball in front of me.  Smooth rolling with a predictable finish.  This is the first Brunswick ball I have thrown in nearly 15 years and have to say I am pleasantly impressed.

Layout of 45 x 4 x 40 with Box Finish. All I can say about this ball is Roll..Roll..Roll. With a Low RG and Low Differential this ball has a Very Predictable Ball Motion through the front of the lanes and when it comes off the pattern the Dynamicore takes over giving this ball incredible hitting power through the pins. This ball has improved carry percentage for me and is usually the first ball out of my bag, whether it be House shot league or more difficult challenge or sport patterns. A ball everyone should have as a part of their arsenal.  8)
Very successful with this ball on 38 Ft. and 41 Ft. House patterns as well as Stone Street and White 2 - Roller Oil Patterns.

LANE CONDITION

House Pattern (42'), 2020 US Open (Pattern 1), 2019 PBA Viper

Pin Down – 80 x 4 ½ x 65

COMMENTS

I heard great things about the Phantom and had to try one to compare to my trusty Web Tour. The Phantom is very similar shape, but I see this about 4-6 boards more overall hook than the Web Tour. This ball is so versatile that really blends out the over/under – wet/dry on a lot of patterns. I was so impressed with the 1st Phantom that I drilled and had to drill another one with my favorite pin down layout. The Phantoms does offer a cleaner ball motion through the fronts and allows me control the mid-lanes & backends when needed. With the lower DIFF, every bowler needs to have one of these types of balls in their arsenal for when you need controllable ball motion on the over/under of flatter lane patterns. The coverstock is easily tuneable and have decided to keep my pin down layout with 1000 w/ factory crown shine, which gives me a great ball motion for the house shot patterns that I face down here in the South. Get yours today!

Hello everyone and welcome to my review of the Brunswick Phantom. How many times have you seen a ball you love get discontinued or cannot be replaced, and felt remorse? This is how I felt about my Hammer Web Tour after the acquisition of Ebonite International by Brunswick. The Web Tour got so much use that I was already considering replacing it, but I didn’t move quick enough. Enter Brunswick with its low rg and diff Phantom, and I think I love it even more. My ball roll makes it easy for the ball to blow by the breakpoint, even had the Web Tour do that a number of times. The Phantom has a similar shape, but a more consistent and stronger front to back reaction. This gives the Phantom more versatility and usability. I’m in love with it. When I have to keep my angles in front of me, its great. Then when I have had to be in the body of the pattern a little more, it still was able to get through the pins well. I drilled mine 40 by 5 by 70, utilizing DOT technology with it being half way into my middle finger hole.  This ball has me excited for the future of the Brands of Brunswick.
