Title: Vapor Zone
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
The Vapor Zone brings the popular reaction of the Absolute Inferno to the Zone Asymmetric line.  The Vapor Zone combines the same rough buff Activator Plus coverstock used on the Absolute Inferno with the Ultra-Low-RG Asymmetrical core system from the Zone Classic.  This core/coverstock combination produces an Absolute Inferno like ball reaction with the drilling options of an asymmetrical core.

In the front-ends: The Activator Plus coverstock is clean through the fronts, saving more reaction for the back-ends.  This provides improved hitting power and back-end recovery while reducing sensitivity to breakdown in front-end lane conditions and lane surfaces that are less than ideal.

In the mid-lane:The Ultra-Low RG core provides strong mid-lane recovery while the Activator Plus provides improved traction in the oil with a smoother, more effective reaction off the dry.  This combination reduces over/under reaction by making the wet play less wet and the dry, less dry, effectively allowing the bowler to create more area.

On the back-ends: The Activator Plus coverstock is powerful and continuous from the breakpoint through the pins.  Improved traction in the oil allows the Vapor Zone to bite through the carry down and aggressively change direction without breaking loose from the lane.  The strong rolling characteristics of the Ultra-Low RG core make this move more readable allowing the bowler to open up the lane.

Reaction Characteristics
•Out of the box:The Vapor Zone is an ideal ball more medium-dry to all but the oiliest lane conditions.
•When shined:Using Brunswick’s Factory Finish High Gloss Polish the total hooking action of the Vapor Zone can be reduced and the arc made more skid/snap.
•When dulled:The Vapor Zone’s hooking action will increase providing a better match-up for oily lane conditions.

I'm a high ball speed player 17-18mph. I drilled the Vapor Zone pin 3/4 inch below ring finger, cg about 30 degrees, mb about the same, x-hole to make ball static legal. Really clean through the heads, but wants to read mid lane and still has strong back end reaction. Good for mid oily house conditions. Vapor doesn't really send pins flying but keeps pins low to deck resulting in alot of pin action. Slower Ball speed players may want to move pin higher possibly adjust ball surface with polish or wet sand 1000,2000,4000. Very good ball for the price. Must have for brunswick arsenal.

Drilled one for 40ft. house condition on Brunswick Anvillane. 5-man league, lanes transition a good amount generally. House known for tons of corners. Laid this ball out 4¼ from PAP , about a 1/2 inch above center of grip, with a 75 degree. PSA 2½" below thumbhole slightly to the right. Ball did exactly what I drilled it for, this particular pattern. I was able to play between 18 and 15 in the fronts, and out to 11-9, all night. Ball makes a sweeping arc with continuation - very controllable. The recovery was very good, even as they carried down. I did leave a Stone 7-9 (I am righthanded) and a Blowout 7-10 as well. I also struck alot and never lost the pocket with this beautiful ball and layout, and tripled my money on the investment of the ball via the brackets. Thanks Brunswick for an awesome piece.

how does this ball roll
Title: Re: Vapor Zone
Post by: BrunsMike on December 03, 2005, 12:19:05 AM
Im a cranker. medium high revs. 18-19MPH. Right handed. Average around 195-205. Ball is drilled with the L3 pattern, I think.

Ball gets through the heads cleanly. Reads the mid lane good then makes a nice turn to the pocket. Its not a very sharp hook to the pocket for me. Gonna add some surface to the ball for greater back end hook to get the ideal reaction I was looking for. Got the ball this past monday I averaged 197 on a 3rd shift shot for 10 games. Through out the week i tried using it but the THS was too dry for the ball plus I was not throwing anything I own properly. Tonight the ball came alive once I got my timing and release points correct.

1st real 3 game set on the ball was tonight. Went like this; 279, 209, 226 for a 714 series. (1st game should have been a 300, ran the 1st 9 and the 1st ball in the 10th, solid 4 pin)

I give this ball a 7 of 10.

Stats

Speed 17-18mph
RPM 425 or so
tilt approx 15 degrees

Layout 5 inch pin 45 degree, pin 1.5" above midline, small hole on axis.  Left the box finish on.

This ball is truly a great addition to the Brunswick line.  It is a very versatile ball depending on layout and surface prep.  I think this ball could be used as a control pearl to play more direct, or a ball to get in and go around them a bit.

With the box finish this ball reads the mids VERY well and makes a nice continuous move to the pocket.  It doesn't seem to ever want to "quit", it just keeps coming.

I am looking forward to drilling another one of these with a lengthy layout and polishing it....

The long awaited Vapor Zone review...

Weight: 15
Pin Out: 1-2"
Surface: OOB

Style: Power Stroker/Low End Cranker
Speed: 17.5-18 MPH (At the pindeck)
PAP: Approximately 4" straight over

---O---O------
---p-----------
--CG-----------
---------------
-----O---------
-------MB------
----------------

Main Bowling Alley: The New Danville Bowl (Danville, California)
Games on Ball: About 20
Lane Type: Synthetic
Oil Patttern: Medium viscosity 38 ft. Christmas Tree Pattern with OOB outside of 7 board (open play bowled on my lane before me)

How the ball reacted:
Well, this ball really surprised me. I had another VZ (pin under bridge, PSA/MB out near VAL) and this VZ, the one with the weaker drilling, outhooked it by a good three boards. This ball gets pretty good length, but not too much, and makes a nice hard arc to the pocket. This ball was stronger than I thought it was going to be. Here's the only thing I don't like... this ball started to lose some of its strength real early, around 25 games or so. It happened with both of my Vapors. It has also smoothed out a bunch. Now I didn't clean it religiously, but I haven't had this happen with too many balls before, even if I didn't clean them. This ball is strong OOB, but it definetley mellows out some. It IS a bit more predictable now though !

Reaction Shape: Good length with a strong arc.

Hook:
The Vapor Zone likes medium-medium/heavy oil. Any less and it'll hook too much, any more and it won't want to turn the corner.
7.5/10

Control:
I like the control I get out of this ball, especially for being a pearl reactive...
7/10

Hit:
This ball will really punish the pins as long as you find the 1-3 pocket (well, the 1-2 for those wrongsiders out there ).
9/10

Updated review. Better stats are in my profile.

After more use of this ball it has became my main goto ball over my Rampage. Pin is 1" > and 1.25" ^ of the ring finger and the pin is .5" > from center of span. The ball seems to have gained more overall hook with games put on the ball. I also gave it a touch of green pad to help overall hook potential. Now the ball is about what i expected and is nice. The Rampage hits like a pillow compared to the Vapor Zone. 1st full night with this ball i shot 714. My typical game with this ball is 25 to 10-7 (depending on the night). My new 0-10 rating: 9.25

Brunswick Vapor Zone:

Ball Specs
The ball being drilled was a 3” pin out with 3.00 oz top weight.
Drilling: Pin 4 1/2" from PAP and Mb 45 degree angle or 3 3/8 from my pap. Pin is Above Ring finger, 3" above grip midline. Weight Hole on my axis. Factory Rough Buff.

Bowler Information:
Track diameter is 10 1/2.
PAP is measured at 5 1/4 over and 3/8" up.
Average ball speed (foul line to head pin) is 17 mph.
Axis rotation is typically 90 degrees
Initial rev rate is typically 300 rpm, "Tweener"
Lane Condition and Pattern:
AMF Bowlero, HPL 9000 Panel. Oil Pattern: Medium Heavy Oil and slightly clean back ends. Fairly Flat condition from edge board to edge board.

REVIEW:
Another winner from Brunswick, nice Coverstock/Weight Block combination. Clean though the fronts, strong move in the midlane and strong but smooth back end reaction. This ball is cleaner and a touch longer through the heads than the Absolute and will finish harder than the Absolute Inferno. I think this ball is much more versatile because of the drilling layouts you can do with this ball. Strong Hit on the pins, keeps them low and carries well. I can use this ball on medium to oily and medium to dry, as the ball has enough recovery from a deeper inside angle. Thanks for reading my review.

See my profile for stats.

I drilled up my Vapor with a 4 1/2 pin-to-pap measurement and the secondary pin at about a 55 degree angle. I left it box, then hit it with a white scotchbrite pad to even the reaction in the back.

I have used this on my normal house shot with some success and have also used this on some longer sport type patterns. I get a very even-rolling arcy type of reaction most every condition with the ball occasionally skating on the longer higher volumes patterns. I have tended to use this as a benchmark type of ball for right now to get a decent read on the condition until I get something a little less reacting than this and in the middle of the reaction scale. I will update after I get more data from upcoming state and nationals.

I drilled this with the most aggressive setup according to the enclosed drill sheet.

Condition was tournament shot OOB outside 7, heavy in the center, @40 ft long.
No big swing allowed here .. play deep inside or straight up the boards.

This ball has the usual smoothness through the heads like all the Activator
balls with the exception of a very big backend.  It's not hockey stick shaped but more like a fish hook shape..you can watch it bend .. it's very cool.  The carry is excellent.  I think this is the ball The One should have been.  It outhooks my One ( I call it The None ) by 5 boards and is way more predictable.

It backends are your game, then this is your ball.

I knew I would find a layout sooner or later that I liked on a Zone.  As much as I liked the AI, I figured the Vapor had to be a winner.  I had been putting the mb about 5 inches from my PAP right by my thumb on other Zones.  On this one I put it in the thumb quardrant about 4 inches from my PAP (45 degrees).  This was a pin in ball, so the 4 inch pin to PAP ended up just below my ring finger.  Overall results are an earlier move than my AI, but with great continuation.  This ball will open up the lane from inside if I need it, but the earlier roll should let me play some control when the conditions warrant it.

Very strong ball from Brunwick, but like all Activator shells you will need to find head oil to use it.

Brunswick Vapor Zone Review: I feel I have neglected everyone by not writing a review on what I consider one of the greatest balls to be released in the last few years. I was under contract with Storm when this ball was first released and within a few days of watching some our customers use it I realized that I had to try one, it looked that great. I was personally shocked at how strong this ball was when I first thru it. The Vapor utilizes the elliptical asymmetrical core of the Strike Zone and Classic Zone, with the Absolute Inferno cover stock. This is the first ball I have used in a long time that was strong in mid lane but still made a super strong move down the lane. There is no quit in this ball. In comparison to the Strike Zone the ball is much cleaner thru the front of the lane with a much greater backend. And in comparison to the Absolute Inferno, the Vapor is much stronger in the mid-lane, but still utilizes the great backend of the Absolute. A nice three ball arsenal for any bowler right now would be the new Scorchin’ Inferno for heavy oil, the Vapor Zone for medium to heavier oil, and the Absolute Inferno for medium to slightly lesser oil. Great job Brunswick!

My Layout: Pin 4 ¼ from PAP, Mass Bias marking 4 3/8 from PAP, Pin is 3 ¼ inches above the mid-line of my grip. Balance hole 4 ¾ over from center of grip thru cg. ¾ drill bit 2 ½ inches deep.

My PAP: 4 ¾ over 1/8 Up Ball Specs: 15 lbs. 5 oz, Pin Distance 3-4, Top Weight 2.7

This is the 1st post for this ball.

I purchased it after a reccomendation from my pro shop. He only had one which he had drilled for himself. He said the ball hooked like crazy. I had to wait 2 days for it to come in and could not wait. Last night I went in, got it drilled, and thew it down about 6 frames.

The shot was left over from a league but the ball was hooking just like he said. He said that it would go down and then look like some one kicked it. Dam this ball hooks! I usually play 18 and out to 7. Well I tried that line and guess what.....won't be playing there anymore. The lanes would have to be super flooded to play a down and in shot.

My layout was the med dry-med oil. I can not wait to see what it does on a fresh pair. I bowl tonight so you can expect another review.

2nd Review

Tonight I threw my ball on a fresh pattern. During practice I was hitting the pocket no matter where I threw it from. The ball would not miss. My first game was a 191. That's with 2 opens. Each was my fault. (easy spares) I need to get used to a ball that actually hooks.  The second game was a 158. Dam! I am a 198 avg bowler. Once again, it was my fault. I also started getting hung up in the thumb hole. I am going to get the hole opened up this wed. That should take care of that. The 3rd game was a 191 again. I was playing a deep inside line which evaporated so I moved to 20 and out to 8. I love this ball. I am going to practice with it after getting the hole taken care of and post one more time. This ball def hooks. My drilling is not the most aggressive and that is scary. If you need more hook than you must be crazy. When this ball hits the back end it takes off. See ya soon!

3rd Review

195 avg.Subbed tonight on fresh oil. Usual house shot. Man I was on.

Started out playing left foot on 25 out to 8. Man that ball smashes. I doubled then hung on the thumb and opened the 3rd. Ran the next 4 and finished with a 239

Next game I picked up where I left off. Three bagged then left a pocket, ringing 7!! Mad was not the word. Two pins went right by it. Struck til the 12th and left another solid 7 for a 278.

Now I am up to 517 after 2. The carry down was def hard at work now. I adjusted in vain. Started with 2 spares, strike, spare, and then a washout. Wasn't sure if the 700 was even going to happen. I eventually finished with a 204 for a 721 set.

I am not sure if it was the carrydown or maybe my release, but the ball was still looking pretty good going into the pocket. This was my 2nd set with this ball and I can not wait to bowl Saturday night. Ball is definitely nice!

Good wet dry piece, nothing more.  Huge amount of over/under on this ball.  Definitely not coming back in the oil, and may snap off the map if it hits the dry too early.  Not a versatile piece, but good for it's purpose.  Hits weak, nothing special.  On wet/dry conditions it's a go to piece but nothing more than that.

profie:   abit over med speed with a lot of revs.  pin is located right and below ring finger.  cg is 2 inch below slighlty kicked out right.  mass bias is about 2 - 3 inch right of thumb hole and of course with a weight hole.

got the ball last thursday and since then, i've had the chance to play it on 3 different condition.  so here it goes. (based on my experience)

condition 1 (med-dry after league practice):  this ball hooks like mad.  kept moving left as the lanes got drier.  last game played it on 20 19 right down to 9 8 and this ball comes back to the pocket.  played 6 games scratch. averaged 227.

condition 2 (fresh med oil league): played 13 12 thru 2nd arrow down to 9 8 then moved a little bit left as oil broke down.  shot 215 234 235 scratch for a 684 series.  averaged 228.

condition 3 (sport shot):  i hesitated in using this ball because it's only supposed to be for medium shot.  i played my 2 heavy oiled balls laying it on 1st arrow down and in shot.  average 180 for the 2 game.

so i decided what the heck might as well try the vapor to see what it will do in this condition.  threw it down the lane same shot 1st arrow down and in and man was i surprised.  vapor came in harder than my other 2 balls.  shot 220 scratch 3rd game.  averaged 193.

needles to say that i was very pleased with this ball as others around me indicated that to average 193 in a sport shot condition is pretty good because the normal average is around 165 to 175.

vapor has a nice smooth arc with a good continium thru the pins which has great carry creating all kinds of pin actions.  i recommend it to all burnswick bowlers to have one included in your arsenal.

Great ball for anything close to med oil. I got mine drilled alittle on the weak side. The ball is not as angular as advertised. Accepts hand position and speed changes o.k. Good carry from inside and down and in, for me I had trouble getting the 9 pin out playing a little swing shot. Predictable reaction strong midlane move with good backend.

Bowler Information:

PAP - 4 15/16" over 7/16" up
Axis tilt - around 17 degrees
Axis rotation - between 30-45 degrees
Ball speed - 15-17 mph

Got the ball from a friend for agood price, as it had low games on it.  The ball has a 2 inch pin, and I chose to lay it out pin under.  Pin is 4 1/4" from axis, MB is 55 degrees, pin 1 1/2" above midline.  I placed a small hole 3" below my axis on the VAL.

I have altered the surface a lot on this ball, and there is one thing I can say about the Activator+, It takes surface changes very well, and really shows a difference of them in ball reaction.  My favorite surface for the ball is 1000 abralon, with a small amount of Clean N' Tacky placed on the pad.  This gives me a nice dull, tacky surface.  The oil handling capabilites of this ball surprised me.  I have had great success on higher volumes, playing tighter lines to the pocket.  The midlane of this ball is awesome, and the continuation of the core is excellent right up until about 57-58 feet.  This is a strong layout for me, and with the duller surface, the reaction is a strong hook-set for me.  With the recent addition of the Scorchin' to my arsenal, I have taken the surface to 2000 polish on the Vapor, which really gives me a smooth continuous ball for medium-heavy conditions.

Overall I love the versatility of the cover, and the smooth readable motion of the Zone core.  This is an absolute winner from Brunswick, and I will guarantee that I drill at least 2 more of these before they are discontiued.  This one has my vote for most versatile ball of the year.

I can sum up the whole review to follow with one word: FLIP!

Ball: 15#, offset CG so this is essentially drilled like a label leverage ball with a kick...that is pin slightly above and to the right of ring, CG slightly right of center of grip, MB about 1 1/2 inches down and to the right of thumb.

Me: Med/High track, medium speed, med/high revs.

Lanes: 2 games on a mostly fresh house shot, 4 games on a 44' sport shot, 3 more games on the same house shot lanes. Old, but well maintained wood surface, part of it is Guardian overlay.

I bought this ball to replace my Nemesis, as I wanted a different reaction to go between my Scorchin' And Smokin' for my arsenal. Mission accomplished! On similar amounts of oil, I would throw the Scorchin' for an early read and smooth back end from anywhere I need to; Smokin' for outside lines, long length, and moderate snap; and the Vapor for middle to inside lines, medium length, and lots of snap!

On the house pattern, I basically didn't need to move a single board all 5 games (2 1/2 hours between the first two and last three). This ball gave me a great look on a line that is deeper than most tweeners/strokers play, but further outside than most crankers play. I'm talking about roughly boards 16 or 17 to 12 at the arrows. The ball was not very forgiving, no matter where I started with my feet or release point, I basically had to get the ball to a certain point distance laterally from the head pin, or it wouldn't come back or it would hook too hard. I would know halfway down the lane what the result would be: Strike, or disaster.

This ball was actually BETTER on the long sport pattern. The longer oil tamed the reaction just a hair, but it still made a devastating corner turn off the oil into the pocket...I just had a little more area to play with.

This ball does NOT work on an outside line for me AT ALL, too much flip and angle. If I want to play outside, I'm definitely bagging the Vapor and switching to the Scorchin' or Smokin', depending on the oil.

I'm going to have another 6 - 10 games of practice this Sunday on a house shot, so I may add a 2nd review at this time because my Absolute Inferno got WAY stronger at about the 12th game (I'm at 9 now).

This is a ball that's going to be great for exploiting a house shot (or house-esque shot, like tonight's sport pattern turned out to be), but something to put away quickly on more a difficult shot. I played around with it from a deeper line and it seems like it will work there too, when trying to follow the oil in the 2nd block of a tournament (I remember seeing a pro do this on one telecast last year, rather than switching to a weaker ball).

I give this ball a 10 out of 10 for what it's good at, but about a 6 for versatility. That's ok, because I have other balls that are "jack of all trades, master of none".

Edit: 2nd review, still at the top so no reason for a new post. The ball did not change in overall hook potential after the break-in period but did "calm down" a bit. Reading over my initial review, I have found that my opinions have not changed...this is a fantastic ball for me when I want to play 3rd arrow and left, but to the right of that I'm pulling out my nearly as strong but much tamer reacting Smokin'.

I was bowling on a flat 40' sport shot on the same lanes as above, and unbeknownst to me the summer lane maintenance was done between my Sunday practice and Tuesday league sessions. When my Scorchin' was flying off the breakpoint like never before, I knew something was up. I figured I'd have the same issue or worse with the Smokin' so I switched to the Vapor. Shot 221 with a 6-bagger (dang greek church in the 2nd frame) doing this, I think the low RG core is causing it to burn a little energy in the midlane and not fly off the breakpoint like the higher RG Scorchin', because the reaction was much more smooth and predictable than with the Scorchin' (usually it's the opposite).

For me, this ball is one of the better core/cover combos to come along in a long while. This has become my "first ball out of the bag", though I feel my Smokin' hits a bit harder when comparing ideal conditions for both. Both are great balls that will have a place in my bag for a long time!

i just got a 15lb vapor zone and the first thing i noticed about this ball was that the breakpoint shape was very predictable. my vapor zone is drilled with the pin on the negative side of the ball above the middle finger and the cg kicked back to the positive side at about 5 o clock. i was a little sketchy about the layout when Wes(Malott)finished drilling it but i have to give him credit on the exotic layout cuz on the right conditions i can throw this ball all day.Wes drilled it to flip hard in the back end, but however in oil this ball does moderately well even though it is polished.it doesnt pick up alot but it does start rolling in the midlane. now once the track area starts to break down you absolutely must move in. if this ball finds dry board it will simply take off! i recently bowled a tournament and threw this ball for 8 games straight and only had to move my feet 7 boards left. like i said earlier if the shot is there this ball is unbeatable. i know how i always go on about how good brunwick balls carry but however the hitting power this ball has is the only slight flaw. you can get away most of the time with "high and tight"pocket hits and trip out a 4 pin,but there have been several occasions where i have smashed the pocket and an 8 pin stands staring back at me. ive always preffered the inferno line of the zone line and this is exactly why, there are times where this ball just hits,it doesnt drive through the pocket like my infernos.other than that i am very pleased with my vapor zone i'll go 8.5 out of 10

Drilled with the pin under the ring finger and the mass bias about two inches right of the thumb.  Used a medium size extra hole on the axis making it roughly a 4.5" Pin to PAP.  I have used this ball with several different surfaces, but settled on 1000 abralon for now.  I got this ball because I liked my Absolute Inferno and wanted something a little earlier and stronger down lane.  It's definitely stronger in the front part of the lane, but it has a tendency to burn up on shorter patterns and hit weak.  As much as I like the AI and Strike Zone, this one just hasn't really matched up for me probably due to the strong layout.

This ball is far from a bad buy.  It's snap will occur no sooner than before leaving the safety of the oil, but turn it will.  This ball causes you to stand deep and thrown out.  A little push or a little more hand at the bottom of your swing will result in a flush looking shot, but most often will not carry properly.  Although you may take this as a bad thing, this still is a good indicator of the balls ability to read the lanes well.  As far as I could tell, this ball has too sharp of an angle to play a down and in shot.  I'm still stickin with my original thesis though, "This ball is far from a bad buy."

Personal rating... 8.5 outta 10.

Layout:
Pin over ring, MB 2 inches right of thumb, Pin 4-5/8 from PAP, and MB 4-3/4 from PAP

Conditions: HPL Synthetics/42 feet/strip backends, AMF/Top Hat Pattern/Clean backens, Wood Lanes/Fresh oil with carry down

This has to be one of my favorite Brunswick Balls of all time. I find the Vapor Zone a versatile ball that can be easily tweaked. It has a nice hard rolling motion with an arcing backend. When i have the cover sheen the ball motion is very even. Then when i polish it, it has a nice hard kick on the backend. When the lanes have carry down, this ball is very even still. The weakness of this ball is long patterns with tight backends and lighter patterns.

Another great by Brunswick.

Just got my Vapor Zone drilled up today. I only got to use it for 3 games, but that was all I needed to see. The Vapor Zone has a similar reaction to the Smokin Inferno but goes a little bit further down the lane and revs up a little harder. Overall, the Vapor Zone is a very good ball for medium to medium-light lane conditions.

Overall Hook: 7.5 out of 10
Backend Hook 8 out of 10
Length 9 out of 10
Hit: 8 out of 10.

15.04 lbs  3.5 pin, 3.25 top weight
Went with 4.5x5.5 layout pin above fingers and Strong MB

Ball is much stronger and more angular than I expected in OOB condition.  Really allows me to open up lane as long as I keep in some oil early on.  Easy to read this ball as it lets you know immediately when to put it up.  It will check up and head left at the first sign of light oil.  Looking forward to some tough tournament conditions to use this ball on.  House shot is no match for this monster.  Strong yet very versitale ball.  Definately going to look at a red and strike zone after throwing this one.  Vapor will easily replace 2 balls in my tournament bag so now I have room for a new ball.........Hmmm

when i first got this ball and tried it out i got to admit it was pretty poor i mean it snapped like a monster and i couldnt control it!
however since having the balls servace dulled abit it seems to have stopped over snapping and more arching

overall sinse altering the ball its gr8!

brunswick balls will withstand if you do alter the surface slightly remember that!

I think this ball was made just for me. Its...amazing. Thats the only word to describe it. It seems i cant miss the pocket when i throw this ball. Have only used it about 10 games but none under 210. This ball goes long and snaps HARD in its OOB conditions. And boy does it hit the pins hard. I thought my Overtime hit the pins, it looks like a sponge next to the Vapor. I'll post a pic with the drillings as soon as i get the ball back.

Overall:
Hook: 8/10
Length: 9/10
Versatility: 7.5/10
Hitting Power: 10/10

This is one of the most under-rated balls in my area.  The guys who have them love them and the guys who dont want them.  Mine is drilled skid flip, pin (3/4) above my ring about two inches cg kicked may right with a small balance hole. Ball moves great but I have to be careful with my speed if there is any over under or carry down.  Thinking about knocking the shine off though to see what I get out of it then.  Another great ball from Brunswick!

This ball is awesome!  The strong, yet predictable breakpoint can make an average bowler look better than he really is. I'm living proof.

I've experimented with different surfaces, but keep coming back to the box finish.  I've sold many of them to people with the same results. The cover and core are a very happy marriage.  If I happen to miss outside, no problem, it comes screaming back.  If I miss inside, the pearlized cover (even dull) holds better than you'd expect.

All of the current Zone balls are great off the breakpoint, they are just too good!  Brunswick has one of the most versatile balls on the market with this one.

Ball #1
2" pin, 3.1 oz. top weight
5 x 4 drilling, psa in strong position
pin under middle finger, cg swung out with small hole on axis

Ball #2
4 1/2 x 4 drilling, psa next to thumb on strong side
pin over bridge, small CG swing with flare reducing hole

The pin under ball almost stands up at breakpoint, and then makes a strong continuous move to the pocket.  The best out of box reaction I've ever had on ANY ball.  No joke.  On medium-long patterns it was the best ball I've drilled in quite a while.

The pin over ball had a comparable reaction to ball #1.  The difference is that it was very strong off the dry with a more skid-flip style arc.   The reactions were comparable but notably different.  It was easy to switch to ball #2 when the pin under ball was reading too early.

In my opinion, this ball was much better than the Absolute Inferno that it shares coverstock with.  Better backend reaction by far.  The midlane read in both balls is similar, but the Vapor stands out with the asymetric drilling options and powerful down-lane reaction.

Ball is great!! Drilled pin above bridge and psa next to my thumb, a 5 1/2" x 5" drilling,  no x-hole. Ball rolls nice and smooth and a good backend reaction. Rolled 280-300 back to back this year coming back from shoulder surgery over summer. 22 strikes in a row. Amazing.

Great reaction to have in the bag.

This ball reacts similar to the Red Zone, but goes longer and hits a lot harder. I drilled it up the same night i got my Red Zone and shot 244 with it strait out of the box. Great ball.

I had this ball drilled up just after Christmas, and it is consistently the best in my arsenal. The hitting power is incredible, nothing is left after a flush pocket hit, also carries low hits nicely. Seems to be slightly unforgiving when you let it go high.

I use this as my benchmark ball. It is that consistent and I can tell right away how much oil is on a lane. It likes to have dry boards but can do a bit in carry down. I'm no good with drill speak, but the pin is above the ring finger and the locator pin is away from the thumb, slightly down. I'm a righty that throws 13-15 mph, but I'll be increasing my speed soon. Rev rate is pretty good for a stroker, but I think I'm a full roller. Going to be changing that soon too, but I know that through those changes the Vapor will be great. If you need a benchmark ball or a nice ball for medium oil, pick up a Vapor Zone.

Love this ball!
Recently purchased a Fury before this. On the house conditions of the lanes I use, the Fury reads midlane too soon and the ball tends to react too agressive on midlane. Not a good ball for a stroker; however, may be great for a cranker.

This ball, Vapor Zone, is perfect for a stroker-type bowler. Easy to adjust. Great pin action. Can use to pick up 10 pins easily because you get more lane on this ball.

For my bowling style - I'd give this a 10 of 10.

Love this ball!
Averaged between 205-215 with the Vapor! Averaged a 170-180 with the Fury.

Player Profile:
PAP: 5 3/8ths right, 9 1/6ths up
Release Speed: 17.5 mph
RPMS: 315 on average
Axis Rotation: 45-55 degrees

Let me start by saying the Classic Zone is my favorite Brunswick ball of all time.  I loved using this ball and I often wished that there was a way I could get it to read quicker in heavier volumes of oil.  Enter the Vapor Zone!  This ball is layed out pin 4 1/2" to my PAP, an MB angle of 65 degrees, a pin height above the midline of 3" and a small shallow hole on my PAP just to get the ball back to legal statics.  The layout looks something like this for me:

------*----
--O-O----
-----------
----------X
-----------
---O-------
------M----

For me, this ball is 3-5 feet earlier than a Classic Zone and 4 boards stronger.  On the same condition, this puts me an arrow left of the Classic Zone and gives me the same continuous motion down the lane.  This is one of those assymetricals I can see any style matching up to with the proper layout.  This also gives me a pearlized option that I can use on longer oil patterns.  Compared to my Absolute Inferno, this Vapor Zone is about 2-3 feet earlier with the same hook potential.  When the Absolute is skidding too much from the inside, the Vapor gives me that extra read in the midlanes and added traction.

One thing I love about the Vapor that is typically unusual for Assymetric equipment is that the more you get on the ball, the stronger it reacts down the lane, and not in the front part of the lane.  Most assymetricals want to spin up in the fronts and die in the backend if you really hit on it too hard, not the Vapor Zone.  This core/cover combo really responds to what you do with it at the release.  Different release positions give you a different motion down the lane.  Varying revrates increase/decrease the response to friction.  It's just very user friendly and can make for a great "tournament ball" providing there's enough oil for it.  It's just a ball that you can trust and adjust with for a long number of games until the pattern blows up.  The Vapor is really strong in a sense that it will hook too early and stop when there isn't enough oil present.  That is evident on both house patterns I bowl on.  I can really see alot of people enjoying this ball on longer/heavier volume house patterns, PBA patterns Shark, Scorpion and Chameleon.  The really high speed boomers will love the predictability on mediums and medium heavy patterns when other equipement doesn't want to read the midlane.  This is just an awesome ball I wish I would have drilled a year ago.

i drilled my vapor zone to start up late i have it sanded it to 2000 and the ball works great for a broken down shot and is good to move inside with because of its strong back end reaction the ball is also a very versatile ball and you can play many lines with it and still feel very comfortable i recomend to have in any bag for someone looking for a medium to light oil ball

First, some stats about my style:

Speed: Med-High
Revs: Low

I bought this ball right before last night's league to give me some depth and versatility to my arsenal that was missing. I must say that I was impressed with the reaction I've gotten out of it. The lanes were a little drier than medium. My first few shots with the ball, I stood at about the 9 board, sending it up the 5 board. These shots were crossing over and wound up going Brooklyn, leaving 5-9s. I decided to move a jump to the left, and I was able to open up the lanes. I stood left of the 25th board, with the ball crossing at the 4th arrow to about the 8 board, and then back to the pocket. I was rather impressed with the reaction OOB. However that wasn't what I was looking for so I'm thinking about changing the surface prep a little bit. I'm not exactly sure of the layout, but it is similar to this:

----*----
--O-O----
---------
--------X
--------
---O----
------M-

There was a small extra hole drilled into the ball to bring it back to legal.

Overall, this was a great decision and a great ball for my style, and would recommend it to anybody with a similar style. Thank You Brunswick.

I got this ball from a friend, and got it drilled up something like this.

---*O-O----
-----------
-cg--------
-----O-----
----mb-----

Obviously I'm a lefty.  I have a decent amount of revs... and a ball speed of about 17 mph.  This ball found a nice spot in my line up, which goes something like this.

Backyard Bully - Light Oil
Vapor Zone - Medium Light
Ricochet Revenge - Medium
The One - Medium Heavy
Total NV - Heavy

This ball is probably the most predictable ball I own, gives me a real nice smooth transition off the breakpoint.  I had 3 games on it and then when I went to my tournament the next day I used this from the third game on and killed.  Ended up going 1416 over 6 games and winning every game in match play.  This is one of my favorite balls to throw, but sometimes it flush's some 9 pins at the most in-opportune moments... but nothing enough to dislike the ball.  I paid nothing for the ball, so it was more than worth it for me.  Nice job Brunswick.

IMO this is brunswick's best release ever.  I drilled two of these balls one 4 1/2 pin over fingers, mass bias in the flip zone and another 5" below the bridge and mass bias in flip zone.

The first one was the most angular ball downlane i've ever thrown in my entire life.  It rolled sooooooooooooooooooo good! It was so much fun playing 15 boards left than anyone else on the pair, swinging it and bringing it.  Best house shot ball i've ever owned.

The second one was the most verstaile.  It picked up the midlane much more, smoother downlane and was an awesome ball on all pba patterns except the shark.  I wish I sill had it, but i gave it away to a friend who needed it much more than me.

If you can find one of these grab it, its a phenominal bowling ball that will not do you wrong, no matter how you drill it

This is my first Zone ball and I absolutely love it! I bought this ball to replace my almost retired Absolute Inferno and it fits the bill very well. Very strong for a pearl ball, great backend. I do however recommend that you do not try to throw this ball on Short patterns. This ball sucks on shorter/drier patterns but on medium to heavy oil the ball is pure money.

Vapor Zone rating-10/10

I know this is a retired ball, but I realized that I never posted a review on it...

This is by far my favorite ball that I have ever owned.  The cover is extremely versatile.  I still use it as my benchmark on house conditions.  I currently have it polished for maximum recovery on medium length oil patterns.  Last year I used it Rough Buffed on a longer walled-up house condition to smooth the reaction slightly.  It has excelled in both situations.  It is still my go-to ball when I feel lost on the lanes.  It is very clean through the heads, revs in the mid-lane and has an aggressive but controllable reaction off the pattern.  One of the most underrated Brunswick balls ever.  10/10

I would like to replace it but it's kind of hard to do that when you're still throwing honor scores with it
