I laid out the Gold Rhino Pro Vintage with a 70X5X60 with the extra hole at P3.  First thing I noticed out of the box was a great deal more skid through the front part of the lane than I thought there would be.  I was thinking this ball would be more like the original Gold Rhino Pro, which for me for pearl ball was a little early.  This ball is NOT at all like that.  It is about a foot and a half cleaner than the LT 48 Vintage and 3-4 stronger off the spot.  This ball will not be my first choice on the fresh unless the pattern is very blended.  It will see most of its time on medium  length and medium to lighter volume.  On longer patterns the ball clears way to easily, and shorter patterns likes to do too many tricks at the breakpoint.

Likes: Like the original Gold Rhino this ball will give you an entirely new perspective on ball motion from Brunswick. With its high rg core and the coverstock of the Exile this ball is going to get down lane cleaner (for me) than any other Brunswick ball in recent time. Usually I see to much skid and not enough flip from a higher rg ball (mostly because I'm slightly speed dominate), but with this ball once it sees the friction at the end of the pattern it doesn't take much time making a left hand turn through the pocket. With this ball being so clean and storing so much energy for the back part of the lane it is very flippy off the pattern and will drive through the pins with a very continuous motion. This ball, however, does not over-react when thrown to the right early instead it rolls up very nicely and depending on the angle of play will still send pins flying across the deck. This ball will also impress with its versatility. It has enough backend motion to be able to get in for the high-rev players without it skidding through the puddle in the middle but is clean enough through the fronts for slower players to be able to get the ball down lane. If the angularity of this ball is a scare to you, like all the Brunswick balls, surface will drastically change the motion and with 1,000 to 2,000 grit the backend motion will tone down and allow for a more predictable motion.

Dislikes: As of now, none.

The Rhino Pro looks so good.  It also is a great addition to the vintage line.  I drilled this ball 45 x 4-3/4 x 70 and it rolls great.  The lt48 was a very smooth ball and this ball handles a little more oil and is more angular.  This is a great ball for when the heads dry up a bit and you are needing a ball to get down the lane.

Here is a video of the rhino and scholar in a surface comparison.

Likes: I drilled up two Gold Rhino's.  The first one I drilled was a 60 x 4 1/2 x 70.  This would be my typically layout for equipment I like to use on league patterns.  I was surprised at how much this ball actually hooks.  This layout really had my ball jumping off the pattern and making a hard left hand turn.  This ball is stronger then the LT 48 for me by 2-3 boards for those people who like the Vintage line.  The strength of this ball, is its ability to rev up quickly, get through the fronts with ease, and then off the pattern make a very aggressive move to the pocket.  It is an awesome ball to have in your arsenal, but looks even better going down the lane.

My second Gold Rhino was drilled; 75 x 5 x 35.  I drilled this ball to be even quicker responding, allowing me to diverse in how I play the lanes.  I've used this on several sport patterns.  On the really flat pattern I struggled with using this because of how aggressive the ball reads the lane outside the pattern.  Where I had very good success with this ball was on a 41 foot sport pattern where I could keep my lines a little tighter and then it would read the pattern very true, and come strong off the pattern.  It allowed my miss right because of its recovery.

I think people are going to be surprised at how much this ball actually hooks.  It is a winner, and should be in everyone's bag.

I was very excited for the release of this ball. I have found it to match up on medium volume patterns. The Rhino Pro and the LT-48 are a great combination together. The rhino is about 3-4 boards stronger than the LT, it is also more angular. I believe this ball can be used on many conditions whether it be a sport or house shot. If your creating an arsenal this ball is a must have in your bag! !!!!

40 x 4 x 70 (3000 Abralon)

Personal Stats:
400-450 RPM
18-20 MPH
PAP - 5 5/8" over, 1" up
Axis Tilt - Estimated 8-12 Degrees
http://youtu.be/XywVojKDWR4#t=1h12m50s (example)
Current League Average: 237
Sport Average: 210

Intended Use:
I drilled up a Gold Rhino with the intents of having a medium total strength, angular, symmetric ball for use on softer, medium conditions.

Reaction:
This ball has a LOT of backend. Even with the smoother pin-down layout, the ball was very very angular with the OOB surface. With my higher speed/revrate combination, I needed to take the shine off the ball and hit the cover with 3000. The ball still retained that angular shape, but doesn't hesitate to hook in the puddle on a fresh house shot with the slightly roughed-up cover. It has also been good for me on very broken down long patterns when I need to get left and loft the gutter cap. The cover retains energy and still goes through the pins fairly well for deep angles.

Overall:
This gorgeous retro ball will be a great piece for anyone looking for that go-to skid-flip motion on house patterns. League bowlers will love it.

The Gold Rhino Pro is that ball in my ball that will give me confidence just like the original gold rhino did back in the days.  The ball has a very good coverstock from the Fortera and Brute series.  The core is similar to the LT-48 core and will pick up reading the midlane sooner than the LT-48.  I drilled mine exactly like my LT-48 and I must say both balls are outstanding complements for one another, if the LT-48 isnt reading the lanes soon enough, i switch to the gold rhino and if the gold rhino is too responsive off friction, I go to the LT-48.  The Gold Rhino Pro will give bowlers the confidence nowadays and sparks alot of people eyes because of the beautiful gold pearl color and great ball motion.

Likes: The Gold Rhino has a medium RG at 4.4, but is complimented with a higher differential.  What this means to your eyes, you will see a ball that easily gets through the fronts, even if they wear down, and because of this will get down lane and have a very strong breakpoint shape to the pocket.  I think many bowlers will be surprised at how much this ball hooks.  its incredibly versatile and can be used on a multiple variety of patterns.  Its ball motion makes it very predictable.  Due to its beautiful gold cover, you can physically see the ball rev up, clear the pattern, and then make it strong continuous motion through the pins.  This is a must for your bowling arsenal.
I have two different drillings for this ball.  I drilled one for my house shot which was a 60 x 4 1/2 x 70.  I really like this particular layout for this ball, which could be used more most bowlers.  Due to the natural characteristics of the ball with the core/cover combination this ball gets down lane easily, and with this drilling, the ball moves aggressively off the spot and destroys the pins.  It looks amazing going down the lane with its strong breakpoint shape recovers from almost anywhere on the lane.
My second drilling is for y more competitive shots; 75 x 5 x 35.  This drilling has allowed for me to get a little more length downland, but gives me an increased on the breakpoint shape.  For your longer sport patterns this is the ideal ball motion.  I love how it reacts on all oil patterns.  I haven't found a pattern yet, where I can't use this ball and score effectively.  Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

First of all this ball is amazing.  Brunswick is using their Fortify reactive coverstock which is used in Brunswick’s biggest flip bowling balls combined with The High Differential core allows this ball to easily get down the lane, picks up quickly off the pattern, and gives a strong breakpoint to the pins.  Bowlers will be surprised with how much this ball hooks.  It is incredibly versatile and will allow you play multiple angles.  It also respond well to any of your favorite drillings.  Also with its gold cover this ball looks absolutely amazing going down the lane.  You see the ball rev up as it goes down the lane, and then its strong breakpoint shape makes for a very impressive piece.  This maintained axis rotation is a product of the amazing cover and core combination.  When you throw this ball you’ll see it easily get down lane while revving up, storing its energy creating a strong backend motion, and then with its continuous motion through the pins will make for an impressive destruction of the pins.  This ball hits incredibly hard because it has so much maintained energy also providing improved carry.  Get one of these in your bag immediately.

I drilled one 60 x 4 1/2 x 70.   This is a pin under drilling. This is my standard drilling for bowling balls I want to use on house shots.  When I first threw this ball on a house shot, I was stunned as to how strong the breakpoint shape was, and the recovery I had with the Gold Rhino Pro.  The ball hits so hard and has a nice element of forgiveness.  Its predictable strong arc with this drilling makes adjustments on the lanes easier.  With its cover the ball clears the front part of the lane so well.  The house shot I bowl on is 43 feet in length, and I can play multiple angles with this ball.  If I want to hook the lane I can, or if I want to play straighter this ball allows me to do just that.

My second one I drilled 75 x 5 x 35.  I decided to use this layout for the Gold Rhino Pro so I could use it on my shorter sport pattern competitive shots allowing me a little more length and quicker response on the flip phase.  I’ve used this ball on a variety of sport shots.  I’ve recently used it on last years Nationals singles and doubles pattern where I was able to play the lanes fairly straight.  I had quite a bit a room with this ball.  If I missed in a little the Gold Rhino held its line, then cleared the pattern and drove through the pins.  When I missed my target a little out, with the strong VAL angle the ball made a quick strong reaction to the pins.  It really matched up well with that pattern.  I also bowled on a flat, short sport pattern.  I was able to get this ball down lane, with great stored energy, and had great ball motion through the pins.

The Gold Rhino Pro looks incredible going down the lanes.  Its so awesome that Brunswick is bringing back ones of its old classics, but with a much improved coverstock making it a great ball for todays game.  I have an LT48 as well, this ball is about 3-4 boards stronger for me.  I’m very confident pulling this ball out of the bag to start my block.  It stays so clean through the fronts, its a ball you can you for a long duration.  Please feel free to email me if you have any questions; troy_300_1999@yahoo.com

Bowler Stats:
18-19 mph
400-425 rpm
5-7 degree tilt
40-60 degree rotation

Layout: 45 degrees by 5.5" by 50 degrees

Initial thoughts: Any ball following the LT-48 in the new Vintage line better be something special. Couple this with the legacy of the original Gold Rhino and the new Vintage Gold Rhino Pro has some serious hype to live up to. The LT-48 (my favorite ball in quite some time) needed a partner with a little more midlane read and overall strength. The Gold Rhino is supposed to do just that. My layout for the Gold Rhino matches that of my favorite LT-48.

On the lanes: It's apparent from the first few shots that Brunswick did a perfect job of matching core and cover. The pearl Fortify cover (featured in the Exile and Brute) pushes effortlessly downlane while the modified Vintage core (added differential) is just enough horsepower to get the ball started quicker. On fresh conditions, my Gold Rhino Pro outhooks the LT-48 by about 3 boards. If I had to make an estimate, I'd say that 2 of those come from the Fortify cover with the other due to the modified core. Just send the ball out to the dry on house shots and let the Fortify cover bring it screaming back. As the lanes transition, the gap in hook potential between the Gold Rhino and the LT-48 starts narrowing ever so slightly. Only on the most burnt up conditions have my LT-48 and Gold Rhino had the same overall hook potential.

The increased strength of the Gold Rhino compared to the LT-48 makes for a very versatile ball for me. I have a total of 4 LT-48s just because the cover/core combo match up so well for me. With this first Gold Rhino comparing to my favorite LT-48 in the way that it does, I'm already planning on drilling several more. This should be the obvious choice for most bowlers on medium patterns or patterns that have gone through transition. I'll be traveling with at least one in my arsenal for what I imagine to be quite some time.

The Vintage Gold Rhino Pro is a throwback to the era when bowling was most popular and is a modern version of one of the greatest balls of all time.  This one doesn't disappoint.  It gets effortless length through the front part of the lane and recovers well as long as some friction is present.  The ball also has that original Gold Rhino shape. It has the length through the front of the lane with a strong, yet controllable, backend reaction that bowlers from the 1990s were accustomed to.  What this ball does better is handle the modern oilier lane conditions.  This ball is certainly more aggressive than the previous Gold Rhino with more recovery than the previously released Vintage LT 48.  The Gold Rhino fits right square in between my Melee Jab and My LT 48.  It is about 2 boards weaker than the Jab and about 2 boards stronger than the LT 48.  It is also a board or so stronger than my similarly drilled brute with an earlier reaction.  Where the Brute can be sideways on a fresher condition, the new Gold Rhino is smoother and more predictable.  I can start right around second arrow on our house shot with the Gold Rhino and move in all night without changing equipment.  If I need extra recovery all I have to do is slow the speed down and get the ball right and it recovers very easily. Pin carry is very good too.  I have sent more messengers with this ball than any mid price ball in recent memory.  It really seems to chop the corners out!  Overall the new Vintage Gold Rhino has to be one of the best values in the industry for its performance and the 20 dollar rebate.  If your looking for length and recovery on moderate to lighter lane conditions, check out the new Gold Rhino Pro today.  You wont be disappointed!
