Smoothest layout for PG?

What would the smoothest reacting layout for a Power Groove for a rev dominant bowler?

I tried that once and ended up with a ball that would flare "backwards" (by which I mean towards the thumb and away from the fingers) about 1", bowtie halfway between finger and thumb.  This would end up rolling over the thumb almost all the way down the lane.

It was a second drill on that ball and there may have been something off in the core, but I'm still leery of using that layout.

Pin-Axis (same as Pin on PAP) is DEFINITELY the drill I would reccomend. In fact, that's the drill I have on my Power Groove.

If the thing was tracking over your thumb, then they didn't measure out your PAP correctly. Get the PAP re-measured and punch one up. You won't regret it.

Be that as it may, that is THE smoothest reaction drill for a dynamic cored resin ball.

Maybe you want a higher pin if you have a high track to prevent the ball from tracking over the thumb.


Besides, if your ball was tracking backwards, I'd bet you or the driller did not drill it on your PAP or your PAP was measured wrong.

The direction of the flare for a pin-axis drill shouldn't really matter much at all.  The core is stable in that case (which is why it's so smooth), and there should be minimal flare, if any at all.
