Teal Zone Pro-Active Recovered! Circa: 1997/98ish

Hey guys, about 3 years ago, I gave my Teal Zone Pro-Active to my cousin to practice with since he didn't have his own ball.

Specs: 2-3 inch pin
Layout: 4x4ish stacked-pin beside ring finger (My pap is 5 1/2> & 3/4^)

I found it in his garage and asked him if I could take it back since he's made his own arsenal lately. Can't wait to have it re-drilled, resurfaced and/or polished.

I believe this ball is a Particle from what I remembered. Anyone have any advice on resurfacing this ball? I believe this ball uses Trizact pads?

how much oil will this ball be used on ? what is your usual ball speed ? these particle balls are designed for oil so plan accordingly. you may need to dull it very rough( burgundy scotch-brite pad )or you may need it smoother finished( 2,000 grit wetsanded ). or, somewhere in between. trial and error will show you how much surface you need. don't worry about trying to find the trizact pads----sandpaper, scotch-brite pads, or abralon pads will all work just fine.

Dude, thanks Greg...This ball has been through at least almost 150-200 games from 98-2001. Primarily used during league play. I would like to see how much life it has left. I want to see what this ball can do on Medium-Heavy type patterns.

This will be an experiment. I haven't thrown this ball for over 3-4 years. From what I remember, I don't recall this ball being too snappy (even with a stacked leverage layout).

I just cleaned the ball with Track Clean N' Dull by hand and boy did it remove alot of dirt & grime. All it needs now is a good resurfacing at the shop. I'm thinking 800 grit finish? Should I go lower? I don't want the ball to be too snappy (with a shined finish I'm guessing?), but I guess I won't find out till I test throw it again tonight before I take it to the shop.

Hope this ball still has some life left in it.

Yo Ramtart!
What's up bro?
Being that it's got that many games on it (150-200), I would try to extract as much oil out of it as possible for maximum performance.
You may want to try leaving it out in the hot sun for a few hours covered with a bath towel to absorb the oil & protect it from direct sunlight.
It should help "bleed" much of the oil that it absorbed from all those games.
When the resurface is done, coat it with some Doc's Magic Elixir to prevent oil absorption.

Tropheus, thanks so much! The weather has gotten nicer these past several days. I think I'll let this baby sit in the backyard while I'm at work. Great advice!

have your pro shop extract the oil with the rejuvinator and have the ball resurfaced----preferably with a haus-type machine and then give it a try.

3/16/05 - UPDATE...

Well guys, I cleaned the ball with Clean N' Dull and a couple of paper towels before bowling a 3 game set last night. Lanes at my home house are 19 year old wood lanes that haven't been resurfaced for all I know a good 5 or so years ago. The house did get a new Brunswick/Kegel oil machine around Christmas though.

Pattern read like a 35-40 foot Christmas tree with medium oil mostly in the middle part of the lane. Volume of oil seemed to taper out towards the edges.

Wanted to see what this ball could do, so I tried throwing 25 at the arrows, but ball couldn't recover at about 45 feet. I would wash out. The deep inside line with this ball was definately out of play, especially with the volume of oil in the middle and some carry down from open play bowlers.

Toyed around with different lines and angles to the pocket, but found the magic line by starting my ball around 12 at the arrows with a small swing to about 5. This ball would flare real nice in the back end. The ball would come back with about 4 oil ring flares. Threw this ball for the rest of the set and became more comfortable with it. The ball's breakpoint is about 5 feet sooner than my Excel (Which is Polished with Pin Under Bridge and MB in 75 degree position). Definatly lopes more than the excel. Must be the dull coverstock.

Anyways, can't wait to clean/resurface/plug re-drill this ball and see what it can do after it's coverstock makeover. I will keep you updated!

I'm excited that this ball is not dead and still has some life left in it!
