Below Avalanche Slide
« on: May 24, 2010, 03:26:03 PM »
Looking for something underneath my Slide. Options I guess are Slingshot or Avalanche Pearl (Blue),
Probably prefer The Pearl, is there much difference between the Slide and the Pearl?

If by "below", you mean "hook less", then the Slingshot hooks less than the Slide. The orignal Blue pearl kind of didn't fit anywhere. Too many people were unhappy with it. They replaced it with the PK 18 pearl version, the Lime/Black one. It hooks more and handles more oil than the Slide.

Yup, the Silver/Blue one was/is a starnge piece. The cover is pretty weak and clean thorugh the heads (N'Control PowerBoost, formerly used on the BVP Punisher and also on Morich's Sahara), but the stuff reacts heavily to friction. Over/under was a big issue - everyone I remember who tried one was not overly happy with the ball. It either went rather straight or was jumpy, and the low flare core was also not to many players' linking. Not sure what you can make of it through surface prep - but it is not a ball I'd recommend... It would, anyway, IMHO also not fit under the Slide.

Maybe wait for the Urethane - or go for the Slingshot, which should be easier to control than the old silver/blue Avalanche.

I loved my blue pearl avalanche. I drilled it aggressive and it rolls great.(leverage pattern, big weight hole in the P3 quad) Which is why I recently got a 2nd for when the first one gets worn out.

I will say that I'm glad I drilled it aggressive, because other wise I could see it being a bit on the over under side.

I also did the same for my powergroove I recently drilled up. 3.75" x 4" with large P4 quad weight hole. Ball still clears the heads good but gets into a very strong roll with good continuation on the backends.

When bowlingball.com cleared out the grooves for $27 with free shipping I almost bought a 2nd just to try something different with later. If your a higher rev player then adding a powergroove or slingshot would work well below the slide.

I'd drill a Slingshot.

I would also say the Slingshot. This ball is clean and very predictable. Alot of value in this ball.
