Ultimate Inferno
« on: April 26, 2004, 09:48:54 AM »
OK, I have adjusted the surface on the Ultimate, polish, smooth etc...

This ball is just a horrific disappointment. It does hit well, I will say that.

I have heard of how much this ball is supposed to hook, well, it hooks nowhere near what many of the other high end, big hooking balls that other companies have out. I do not get near the movement out of the Ultimate that I got out of the Track Mutant, let alone the Phenom, Phenom Unleashed or the Animal.

Big disappointment is all I can say, and if you are looking for a big hooking ball, look elsewhere.

i'm just curious...which line you playing ex?

i do agree that this ball won't make strong enough motion in a soup.

for me, this is the 2nd biggest hooking ball in my arsenal.  but a ball i can use more than animal (UI suffers from less over/under imo, just a smooth, predictable arc).

hmmm...the other night when I threw this ball, I was stunned that it suddenly wasn't hooking as much.  Turned out to be a better reaction than I had before so I didn't give it too much thought.  Wonder if I hit that 20 game wall that the UI has when the hook leaves town.

heck ive got a green predator i used to use green scotchbrite on it(the whole ball) and everytime i used it, the track would shine up if i used it for a whole series.....thus i had to keep using the scotchbrite on it to keep the same reaction.

just talking about dull balls shining up on ya'll

I need to update my profile because I feel I have slowed my ball speed down quite a bit. I will be making a trip to Kegel soon, so I will update after that trip.

The lines I attempted with the Ultimate were identical to many other balls I have. First tried it lined up where I play my Animal....not even close. Then I moved a few boards right (where I play with my Havoc), still, not even close. Line I play with the Animal: Standing 30 setting the ball down at 23 and getting it out to 17 at the arrows and 10 board for my breakpoint. Line with the Havoc: Standing 26 with my feet setting the ball down at 21 and getting it to 14 at the arrows and 8 board for my breakpoint.

I am not totally giving up on this ball. I will play with surfaces a little more, but I find this ball as far from the oiler that many are saying it is.

wow.  that's REALLY weird EX.

i have my UI in box finish and Animal in 600 grit.
when i play, Animal goes longer, but both UI and Animal cover about same amount of boards.  if the backend's cleaner, Animal covers about 2-4 boards max.  on a reverse block, once they hit the flood, both ball doesn't recover back to the pocket.  also, i have my animal drilled for early roll (mb very close to VAL).  and my UI isn't even drilled for roll, so this is really puzzling.  what kind of drill on the UI?

What you have to understand is that this ball drinks oil and you need to wipe it straight after each shot, and you should clean it once a week.
