Dry lane ball

I was thinking about looking for a dry lane ball to complete my arsenal.  One of the pro shops in my area had a Monster Slayr for about $50 and from the reviews it seems like a good ball.  I will probably also use this ball as a spare ball so if this would hook to much please tell me.  Also I was looking at the power groove as another option so opinions would be appreciated.

The condition I am planing to use this ball on is old soft wooden lanes, and a very short shot with very dry outsides on synthetics.  Basically, I am looking for a ball that get through the oil and some of the dry fairly easily, and then hook.

ummm i use the groove urathane. works well for spares i dont carry a spare ball just use it. and when its dry i pull it out and it hits pretty dang hard. you can also take a look at the dessert heat or mabe the slate blue gargoyle ive heard works pretty good. for me the ice and tropical storm hooks way too much to me a dry lane ball.

Whatever you do, dont get a Power Groove for dry stuff. A Groove Dry R is a good choice but, a standard Power groove will hook like crazy. A groove urethane would be decent also. I have thrown the Power Groove and also the Tropical and as the last user said, the Tropical is strong on dry but, the Power Groove is even stronger. You will be playing 6th to 7th arrow on dry stuff if you have any hand at all with the power groove.

Plastic rocks if you are tossing in the dry. Zone spare ball= 620 last week

That's right. The normal PGs are quite aggressive. Good for light oil, but not for short and thin patterns. The Dry/R is IMHO the best choice - it is much smoother than a PG, and it has dynamic core components. The Groove Urethane just has a pancake and never gets into a real roll, so you have IMHO less margin of error. But it is also a valid alternative.
