RICO'd Ultra Zone
« on: January 17, 2009, 02:24:00 PM »
I just got a cheap Ultra Zone off eBay and was considering throwing the RICO on it.  I wanted to know if someone could tell me what difference in reaction would be between it and a Destruction with the RICO.  I love the Destruction on the drier house shots, but it doesn't fair as well in the oil as I would like.  Was thinking that since the Ultra is a lower RG ball, it would start up a little earlier and make it a better fit for shots where there is more oil and the smooth RICO action is desired.  Thanks.

my ultra zone is layed out with the pin under the ring and the mb kicked out to the right. it is a very predictable ball regardless of the drilling you put on it IMO. i feel the best rico ball i have thrown was a RICO Blast Zone.

"I wanted to know if someone could tell me what difference in reaction would be between it and a Destruction with the RICO."

The Ultra, with it's stronger cover and core will handle somewhat more oil than the Destruction, which is not intended to be an "oil ball".

Although the Ultra's hybrid (part solid/part pearl) cover IS stronger, it's still not a heavy oil ball. What it WILL do is rev up faster, due to the core, and allow you to manage some more oil than the pearl reactive cover of the Destruction. Overall, the Ultra will be earlier and smoother...

I have a RICO Ultra and it is very smooth and has an arc like reaction. Moving deep and opening up the angles doesn't fair well for this reaction for me. Keeping tighter lines to smooth out dry backends and spotty conditions is a better fit for me.

So I finally got my Ultra, 4" pin and 3oz top weight.  Is this going to be alright to drill RICO?  If not, what would be a good control layout for a 4 3/8 x 7/8 PAP, medium track, and 15.0 mph with matched revs?
