Title: Ball Recommendations for Oily Lanes (League)
Post by: 10pin on November 28, 2009, 09:03:11 AM
hi this is my first post here.. some background on bowling is september i started with a 13lb. house ball.. throwing 110's-120's mostly with the occasional 160 and i even threw 180. after that i decided i would get a new ball, learn to hook so i could hit the pocket and gain more consistency.. i also used to throw a backup ball (not on purpose) my wrist would naturally go the other way so the guys at the proshop recommended that i go with the brunswick power groove, so i did and they taught me how to hook.

avg in league is about 150 after 15 games. high game league is 185, subbing i bowled a 210 3rd game one night.. which leads me to my question.. i find that this ball does amazing on medium/dry lanes.. my high with it just open bowling is a 237. however, i struggle to do well in league and have bowled as low as a 112. usually my scores will start low and get better as the night wears on because the lanes get dry.

what would you all recommend for an intermediate bowler looking to get more bite on those heavily oiled patterns? i find that when the ball isnt hooking, i'll move around too much.. 6 boards to the right, 6 to the left.. and basically just can't gain momentum or stay consistent..

thank you.

Sorry I see you throw a Power Groove. I would go with something along the lines of a Nomad Solid....No need to spend any more $$ than that.

Try a new Diamondback or Wild Card or even a Avalanche solid with the shine knocked off before you talk about a "heavy oil" ball.

Morich n tense excellent oil ball with carry down. Just make sure your ball driller knows how to lay out the ball that fits your style of bowling.

thanks for the advice..

i might go with the d-back

bowled a 267 today with the power groove

X,X,X,X,X,9/,X,X,X,X,9-

pretty gross 9 count there and the 10th could have been better.. problem is i cant do this in league and thats what's depressing me.. i think its a combination of psychological aspect, lane conditions, and wait time in between bowlers.. i like to bowl relatively fast and get into a rhythm..

Sounds like a pretty cake house shot to me if youve been bowling for 3 months and are already nailing 267 games......

yeah you are probably right.. except i bowled a different house yesterday for the 267.. i might be getting better because i practice 3-4 times a week and work on what im doing wrong constantly.. maybe i hit my mark 10-11 times in a row?? maybe the lane was forgiving some of that time when i didnt.

sure i would like to be able to practice on the pba patterns but i dont have that readily at my disposal..

thanks for your valuable input though..

Isn't the Diamond back a UI with a different core (rocket core)?

Actually, the Diamondback is an Ultimate Inferno with a different cover and a different core.

From what I've heard, the flavor of Activator on the D-Back is stronger than the one that was used for the Ultimate (and the remake).
