Ultimate or Scorchin?
« on: February 22, 2006, 01:35:00 PM »
Hey guys... My Ultimate has hundreds of games on it and I was
wondering what ball I should get?  I loved my Ultimate but I'm
hearing great things about the Scorchin. What should I do?

i've drilled 2 Ui's and one scorchin and i like my scorchin better. Could never get my ui's to carry.

I've had two Ultimates, and they were great. But, my Scorchin' is a great ball, and worth the investment. I'd go with the Scorchin', IMO.

I would also agree with previous replies.  I have both UI and scorchin.  I love both but the scorchin is definatly stronger both in reaction and carry.

mgo with scorchin and you will not be dissappointed.  i still have my ui and the funny thing about it is that when i hit pocket, sometimes it leaves me with weird splits, 8 pin.  with my sci, i have more carry.

I have a scorchin and i convinced my friend to get one yesterday.
He got it polished to a UI cover and used that. he said it was really smooth, nice backend too.

Its hard to play with an inferno and not get burned. Last time I threw my inferno, the opposing bowler definitely got burned.

the february issue of bowling this month hit my mailbox today and the first ball they tested was the scorchin' inferno. they said it was the biggest hooking ball from brunswick that they had ever tested. they also said it hooked earlier, hooked more in the midlane, and hooked more on the backend than the ultimate. they also said most players would need to smooth the surface as well.

If your ultimate worked so well, why get something new that may not be what you are looking for?

Glad to hear all the good things about the ScI, because I have a UI and and AI and ordered a ScI today!!  Don't get me wrong, I have had great success with the UI and AI, I just like new toys.  It's my one variation from being an extreme cheap-stake...

Thanks for all the replies! After another 300 with my Ultimate,
I think I'm gonna go with that Plus a guy I bowl with just
got the Scorchin; it was wayyyy too much ball for him.
Thanks again guys!

Sorry to disappoint Roto. I've based my decision off of this forum
and the people I bowl with and decided the scorchin would be too
much.

I've had an Ultimate for about 9 months and it's a great ball.  It is sarting to loose its abilities in the very fresh oil, so I've smoothed it out by putting a 2000 grit shine on it. It still hits and works superbly for me.

I added a scorching and so far it's just too much. I'm going to change the surface tonight from the OOB finsih and try it at 1000 grit. We'll see....

P.S. Both balls are drilled exactly the same... exactly the same pin length, pin position, and CG position.

Well, I used the Scorchin' Inferno today frash at 1000g for a tournament today. I practiced a game in the standard house shot and the ball worked great! Went much longer and then snapped sharply. Shot a 279 before I went off to the tourney.

The tourney shot was much different. More of an out of bounds, flatter shot as well. The ball didn't work the same as on the THS... probably could have used it kept at 600 grit! I shot 1171 for 5 games, including a 288 (front 10) the last game.

Bottom line: I think I'll keep the SI at 1000g for league play and we'll see what happens!
