Anybody have experience w/ fire quantum?
« on: May 27, 2007, 11:49:15 PM »
Just picked this 15 pounder up at a garage sale for $10.00. What can I expect from this ball? Any input is welcome. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like I will drill it up and see how she works!

Yeah, PK 18 pearl with a medium-low flare mushroom core. Great ball on medium to medium-dry conditions. A fellow in my club still uses one, and very effectively. Reads the lane well, but does not overreact. More of an arcing back end, not snappy.
Looks less "violent" on the lane than a Rampage, but is IMO easier to control, especially when the lane starts to change and the mid lane area breaks away. Not good to open up the lanes unless you have of hand, but a good piece.

Maybe we will see something similar in Brunswick's new ball line between the PGs and the BVPs?

Still uses PK 18 pearl coverstock, with medium low RG (famous Quantum Mushroom) core and low-ish differential.

Depending on drill and your "hand", it's generally for medium-light to medium oil, with strong roll, medium length and arcing backend. If you use a long pin to PAP and/or a highpin position, it will tend more towards a skid/snap reaction, but in general, it is more of an arc-ing type of reaction.

If you got it at a garage sale, you MUST give it some typoe of oil-extraction/rejuvenation procedure and re-surface. Stock finish is 400 grit sanding plus Brunswick's High Gloss polish. If you use a finer sanding, the ball will skid further and hook less.

I have mine at 800 grit plus polish and pin below the ring finger - nice smooth strong reaction for medium-light oil. Semi-control ball because of the lower RG differential which results in less flare, but excellent power/energy retention.

Wow, you guys are great! Thanks for the info. I bowl at two different houses  and both use light oil patterns. This ball might just work out.
