Title: Brunswick needs to do something fast
Post by: thegame on March 28, 2004, 10:46:07 PM
I am a Brunswick fan, but they have seemingly backed themselves into a corner a bit here.  With the discontinuation of the Blazing Inferno, Raging Inferno (so I've heard), Monster Smash/R, Monster Frenzy, Swamp Monster, and Fuze Eliminator, they have really dried up their equipment choices.  I have no doubt that they have something up their sleeve, and we will soon see some replacements for these balls, but either their going to release a flood (5 balls or so at once, which people dislike for a variety of reasons), or they will slowly replace them, and still be a little short for a while.  It just kind of concerns me a bit as Brunswick has been known in the past to not make the brightest business decisions in the world, and it looked like they got around that corner, and were moving in the right direction.  Hopefully this is passing quickly, and the new line of Brunswick equipment will be here soon.

Let me start out by saying I dont throw brunswick but 2 of my teamates do and other bowlers on the league do.

From what i heard from these people is that the newest infernos are an inferior product quality wise.  Everyone i have talked to talks about lost reaction or cover tracking fast and adjusting the shell kills the ball.  I dont think brunswick had a choice in discontinuing them because it is turning into a "tec" type disaster.

I have the Bruiser and original Inferno.  I haven't had any problems with either of them.  I have adjusted the covers and used them both on a variety of patterns.  There are many folks in this area happy with the Infernos and Monsters.

I believe the Blazing Inferno is being discontinued b/c it isn't as good as the Slay/r or very close to it.  Why pay a premium price when you can buy the same ball or a better for less??

The Frenzy, Smash/r, Swamp and Eliminator have been out for a long time.  I know Big B is introducing a brand new high perf and mid priced line this summer.  I, for one, like the fact Brunswick doesn't release 30 balls a year like Track, Ebonite and Columbia.

Sounds like they have held up for some, but others haven't been so fortunate.  My Raging Inferno was great until about 100 games or so, and now it just skids and never makes the hard roll into the pocket that it used to.  I tried dulling it a little (it was never dull before, but it didn't help anyway), and bringing it back to where it was before, dulling it, and then putting just a little shine on it, no help either.  I have gone to my Power Diesel with great success to replace it, and am looking for another particle, since I already have the Warp Zone, looks like my only option is to go to Hammer or another company for this new addition, if that works out as well as this one has, who knows I may be a Hammerhead in the making.

Did some of you miss my teaser post?  Message me for DETAILS about Brunswick's plans for the next FOUR MONTHS.  One more tidbit that Ron Bragg mentioned was that if they do discontinue the Monsters, it'll always be an option to bring them back in a couple years like they did with the Zones because the name is so popular now.
