Replacing the Strike King, the Rhino series provides enhanced performance and improved shelf appeal with an eye-catching logo and outstanding colors. The Rhino line features our new R-16 reactive coverstock combined with a traditional light bulb core to deliver a perfect balance between power and control for entry level ball buyers. With the launch of the Rhino series, there will be five colors – Black Pearl, Red/Black/Gold, Black/Blue/Silver, Purple/Pink/White, and Green/Silver. The Rhino balls are available in 10 through 16 pounds.

Not gonna lie... This is a good release for Brunswick, I think the name alone will sell better than the Strike Kings
-
The company peaked in the 90's. So why not go back to a time when people actually wanted to throw your brand. Good move.
-
I love the color schemes
-
Green/Silver and Black look sharp. Will be interesting to see them in person.

I think it's a step, backwards towards Ebonite and the Cyclone. It's still stronger yet, The Strike King was stronger than the Slingshot; now the Rhino is stronger than the Strike King. Brunswick is removing itself from one of its previous strengths: light oil balls.
Ebonite has had no true light oil balls since the Cyclone came out. Now, Brunswick joins them.
Heck, now there's room again for the Slingshot below the Rhino.
-
Better stock up on the Strike Kings. Was the best bang for the buck for the THS in my opinion.
-
I'm with charlest on this one.
I've been a fan of the Ringer and Slingshot series.

.030 diff vs .053
That's a pretty contrasting difference to be grouped the same.
These are a lot closer to Strike King than they are Cyclone. The shape is different on Rhino vs Strike King. Just a bit smoother overall from the RG change.

I didn't meant the same ball; I mean the same type of ball. And that Brunswick SEEMS to be following the same general path, using stronger and stronger balls as their weakest. They're not the same large step, when it went to the Cyclone, that Ebonite took, but, as I said, the Strike King was stronger than the Slingshot. I have no doubt that with little lower RG and little higher differential, that the Rhino, as good as they look, will be a little stronger overall than the Strike King.
I honestly think there's ow room to put the Slingshot below the Rhino and have a more properly filled arsenal. Yes, I know people with high ball speeds don't need it, but many of us still do.
PLUS
with Bowlmor taking over both AMF and Brunswick bowling centers, we need more light balls than ever before. Bowlmor uses the cheapest, crappiest oils than can find and puts down far, far less oil than AMF or Brunswick did 20 years ago.

So true

That's good input, thanks guys.
Maybe there is room for another step down in the future, I'll bring it up when we all meet next.

I will never say Bowlmor is the king of competitive bowling, but this is incorrect as a blanket statement. Bowlmor centers, or at least the ones I have experience with, set up their own conditions and select their own oils. This doesn't mean they aren't encouraged to "cheapen the product" for the sake of the bottom line.
I am not as doom and gloom on Bowlmor as the next person. I don't work for them or have anything to do with them other than bowl in an establishment.
As for the general case, my opinion is the same. Brunswick will need to provide a weaker ball if they want to continue in the entry market. Many centers spend less on oiling lanes in the summer. The timing of this release will mean the summer will see a lot of new bowlers with bowling balls that may not be as effective as a Tropical Breeze or perhaps even a Ride/Joy Ride.
Unfortunately, even if Brunswick agrees, they can't just release a new ball tomorrow to go where the Slingshot was.

Nick,
Maybe some more constructive feedback (hopefully). One of the things I look for is a solid cover, not a ball with pearl mixed in, or a hybrid, or a straight pearl. From what I gather, the new Rhinos, like the Strike Kings, will all be pearls.
One of the greatest niche ball I have ever thrown is the Visionary Green Blue Centaur. The ball has a RG above 2.6 and the diff is .015 with a very mild solid cover. The ball is super smooth and has been in my bag for a long time. I know many others who love this ball and I know many times Visionary has been asked to bring something like this back.
So, I don't expect Brunswick or anyone to introduce another ball just to fill a niche spot as I am sure sales would not warrant the R&D required, but maybe consider a solid in the future for the Rhino or a line similar to the Rhinos?
Thanks
-
It's possible, it just hasn't been done with Brunswick balls at this price point. We are very careful about performance targets to make sure they don't cross over. A stronger cover on a Rhino could potentially be stronger than a Soul Mate, but your point is taken.
I like solids as well, that's where my LT48 fits in.
-
I still had an original Forest Green Quantum and Midnight Blue Quantum up until early last year to fill in at these spots. The solid covers and the fact the covers were much milder 2 decades ago compared to now made them perfect for high friction environments today.
Thanks for listening.

I am with Charlest on this one too.I am older bowler 55 years young.390rr 17mph never really need much more than a Strike King in the south.Nobody really makes a true resin ball for dirt. And urethane just don't really cut it for me.I have tried lots of low end balls. For the most part they are plenty strong enough for ths.Tropical Breeze's with the lowest diff on the market is to cover strong in my opinion. But I do understand that when sells drop out you have to come out with something new.But anybody needing a great ball for dryer ths.Better get them while you can.Not sure about the cover on the new Rhino don't see diff making to much more stronger. They do look good. You all are killing me with all the great balls coming out.Core looks like a rack attack in Rhino clothing.

Sorry, I should have said, in my experience.
They completely destroyed my original home house, an AMF center.
Now they are setting about destroying my other home house, Carolier Lanes in NJ. They said they wouldn't touch it, but of course that turned out to be a lie. They're already using less oil than Brunswick ever did and oiling once a day, when the volume of bowling, in this once great house, requires 2x a day on most days. Now they are also converting lanes 1-48, (Lanes 49 - 82 are downstairs) this summer, in another BOWLMOR disaster: parties and open bowling only. Leagues only will now be forced to bowl downstairs next season.
So, in my opinion, Bowlmor is a serious part of the problems that are ruining league bowling.

I don't know the situation you are in and I feel for you. I know I am lucky to have a GM and Facilities Mgr who listens to the bowlers, even though the loudest ones have dictated a 15+:1 ratio shot (grrrr).
But I personally don't feel AMF/Bowlmor will dictate the direction competitive leagues go when they have less than 7% of the centers in the country.
Back to the issue, YES, a weak solid would be phenomenal.

Thank you.
I was venting; this sort of ruptured an old, festering wound. My closest house that I bowled in regularly for the past 20 years and my favorite house for the last 35 years are now under the influence of a pool player who knows zilch about bowling but who has been promoted to his "Perter Principle" level of area manager and it covers both of these houses. With any luck I'll move to Oregon next year where people still seem to care about bowling.

I bowled at Carolier last summer during UBA's Battle Bowl. Place breaks down very fast. Not to mention it's a lefty!!!! House. I watched the local house bowler Robert Smith hit 13-4 at the arrows and strike. He literally had almost 10 boards of room at 15 feet. That's ok, I still beat him in singles because lefties can't move in 8)

I doubt you will see a significant difference between the strike king and new rhino. The rhino pro is a much bigger step up and that ball was pretty weak too me. Breathe, Relax and Repeat!
-
Brunswick did a great job on these new colors. IMHO, the Strike Kings lacked shelf appeal, a problem which has clearly been addressed with these new Rhinos.
-
Why is it, even as a 500 ball limited production run, someone doesn't recreate a ball like the blue-green centaur from Visionary? Super high RG, super low diff, with a really weak coverstock?
I think there are enough of us nationwide that are rev dominant that would love to have a new ball like this. I can't keep a tropical breeze in the pocket on most shots I see, so I throw urethane and plastic with a core.
-
If I had free cash to invest in a 500 run ball (or whatever the minimum run requirement is) from Visionary, I would if I could answer the questions below.
I would be responsible for storing the balls (where?), selling the balls (how - ebay? website?) shipping the balls (time, cost) and what happens if a ball cracks or there is a warranty issue? Many loose ends, more than just selling a ball here or there.
Seems like a lot for maybe $10-$20 profit a ball...if that? By the time ebay fees are charged, paypal fees, etc...tough to turn a profit big enough to make it worth while.
-
anyone know when these are going to hit the interwebs? looking forward to ordering one

Wow I haven't been on this site in awhile - or really bowling much these days - and first thing I see is this beauty! When I saw the lightbulb core I got even more excited.
That being said, I was hoping for a higher RG and lower differential like many of the others here. I loved my Strike King but it was stronger than what I need on the light oil and dirt I seem to find myself on most days. The LT-48 is the only ball that ever leaves my bag. As much as I love that ball, I've been considering drilling up plastic to play down the twig.
The most consistent money maker I ever had was an old Faball Norm Duke Hammer. Weak solid reactive cover stock with a lightbulb core. Low diff/high RG. Wish I had that still but I don't throw 15. I could play the extreme outside shot all day on anything from dirt to fresh THS. I agree with others who would like to see that.
But in the meantime, I might buy one of these and put a very weak drill on it!

How about Brunswick releasing a Urethane Rhino? Similar to when you guys were releasing the Karma. At first the Karma's were reactive and then came out the Urethane Karma. How about doing same thing with this new Rhino too? It sucks having to use another brands urethane... I'm craving for a Rhino Urethane.

i still have the old black one with the orange lettering...found it in a local alley and they sold it to me for $10...single drill and looks brand new

Gotta have a Rhino. Bk, Bu, Sil should do just fine. ;)
My tried and true Wizard is a bit early when the lanes break down. Bought it right after Nick's friend debuted it in a vid. :-* (Sorry Nick. I couldn't resist.) ;D

Updated with video in the original post.
-
I bought the black, blue, and silver one. Not only does it look great, it performs great. Easy length with a nice controllable backend. It makes a great 1,2 combo with my loco solid.
-
I'm really enjoying mine. I love the green/silver color

SVstar34,
Any way you could reduce the size of those pictures to merely GIGANTIC??
They go completely off my 15" monitor. I think I'd need a 6' Plasma to show them. :)

Thank you, sir. It is much appreciated.
FYI I also love balls with that Kelly Green color in them. The Viral Solid and the good old Blue/Green Centaur has it.

I do have to say that I have been impressed with what Brunswick has released the last 1 1/2 - 2+ years.
I feel like something new replacing the Melee line would be coming next. I'm almost considering selling off everything I have except for the Rhino and building from the bottom up
-
I can't decide between two colors, just the name RHINO alone takes me back to the mid 80's when I started youth.......
(that green belt is as funny looking as the white belt. but hey, it's not me)
-
I threw the Ultra Zone looking one today. Reminds me of one of my favorite Brunswick balls ever, the Monster Scream/R. It's clean and long enough where it won't force you wayyy in when it's drier. The awesome thing though is the more you give it at the bottom, the more it gives you in the backend. I can throw it two handed also and I was shocked at how clean and strong it was when I bowled this morning on last nights league breakdown.
Just as a reference to the reaction, I was an arrow right of a Hyroad that I have which is almost identical in reaction to a same drilled Brute Strength.
-
I like that Brunswick brought Billy O back for a vid. That guy throws it sweet!
