I have just started bowling in a league & want to get my own ball. I figure I can't get that much better using the balls in the alley that don't fit me that well and I can't use consistently.
After looking around the web the Brunswick Strike King keeps coming up as an excellent entry level ball. Would y'all recommend this one? Right now, I bowl pretty straight, but am interested in trying to throw a hook, and when we set our averages the other night, mine was 137.
What do y'all think? What set-up should I go with? I'll be getting either a 15 or 16 pound ball, but I have no idea about pin position or top weight...
Anything else you would recommend? Any information would be great, thanks a lot.

The Strike King is an excellent entry level ball. For your first ball I'd recommend laying it out fairly strong, perhaps pin about 4" from PAP (your driller finds that spot) and enjoy!

I agree it's a great entry level ball. I recommend you ask a pro shop to watch you bowl before laying it out for you.
If you can't do that, a bread-and-butter label label drill is usually a safe bet for a beginning bowler.

Strike king is good. Or a misfit. I would get a solid with a smooth reaction not angular

Call the proshop, see if you get an appt for them to watch... It really is that important. As for the Strike king, love them
I am a dedicated "220+ Urethane grip-it-and-rip-it-lefty" who is just now making the switch over to resin. I have a couple of these in 15Lb, the red/brown pearl with a shortpin and the black with a 5+" pin.
Both have a nice even controllable curve with no surprise jumps

Went 247 out of the box. Very versatile ball. It was meant for the beginners bowling on a THS, but in the hands of a well rounded versatile player, or even that beginner, it's a truely awesome piece of destruction.
