BTU Pearl Discontinued? Anything close?
« on: June 20, 2018, 06:05:46 AM »
I CANNOT bowl without my BTU Pearl. Its the only ball that gets down the lane at my dry roasted poorly maintained lanes but still has hitting power.

Did they discontinue this? If so I'm going to have to stash some. If anyone has a 14 lbs they want to get rid let me know too.

Anything close to this ball? The new releases didnt seem to have anything similar

Thanks!
Mike

Rhino or Blue Hammer remake maybe?  Both go real long and are fairly mild on the back end.

Wish i could use the 16lb but i cant get anything down the lane unless i up my speed so thats why i go 14lbs, plus the old back! haha

The Rhino I had trouble with. I dont get along with bulb cores. They wanna turn a bit too early & thats death on these lanes. The BTU has much better hitting power & later... without having more hook than the Rhino. My other ball is a Radical Ridiculous. Its a challenge to keep it out of gutter let alone hit the headpin. Great on a real lanes though

There some NIB 14lb available for basically retail price on ebay.  Both of those look like retail pro shops as well.

If the Rhino was too much,  you should look at a Brunswick Twist as it will be weaker than the Rhino line.

Twist sounds like what you need.  Same cover as the rhino with a lower diff core more reminiscent of the Slingshot.

Just looking at the Twist's core image and its numbers, thoughts of the Slingshot are what came to mind. I'm glad I kept my Slingshots. They've served me well.
Ball speed avg. (18.25 mph)

I could probably use a ball down from the BTU pearl although man, this thing hits like a truck, i gotta loft it & I gotta be left but i have miss room & carry.
Maybe a 13lb twist would let me get down the lane when its REALLY roasted more than usual? Hmm, good thoughts guys.
Luckily I just grabbed a BTU pearl backup from Scott but Im going to keep stashing that ball. This house literally eats balls too. Its like I throw it in an alligator pit

Bowl in a house like that occasionally (today actually) and usually bring older urethane.  Not always ideal ball choice but at least the lanes won't be able to do much damage to my equipment.

What a shame this ball isnt on the Brunswick website. They pretty much have the same motion covered by the Urethane True Motion which I guess appeals to people seeing the name urethane but man the BTU pearl was actually better than urethane.
Little bit of oil today & I went straighter is greater, last few weeks a bit dry & I could hook the lane. It just handles EVERY condition, it was never out of play. I just think Brunswick screwed up on the 1st version which was just too strong to mimic Urethane or be a dry lane ball.

Im going to keep stashing this ball every time i see one for a good deal.

Truly is a shame this ball is discontinued. I feel it would pair well after the Purple Hammer for tourney bowlers or be a really good option on lighter oils.
