Title: BVP line
Post by: RPM MAX on April 07, 2006, 03:03:11 AM
With the nemesis nearing the end of its time what is next? I am hoping they replace it with a BVP core and solid activator cover, any one else got any ideas what they would like to see next in the BVP line!

Don't expect to see Activator on the Mid Range for some time to come!

But DO expect to see something with PK18

You know a cover is good, when it's been used on countless balls and still holds that excitement factor when it will be used on another ball.

So what are we getting nick? A new core maybe? activator is over 3yrs old now and has run its course in the high performance and zone lines why not drop it to mid price?

Run its course??

Activator is still the most sought after coverstock in my shop and on the PBA Tour. I wouldn't say it has run its course when its still hot as ever.

If you look in the past, the trickle down effect doesn't occur for a good 5-6 years.

Sapphire Zone PK17 ---> Monster Series
Danger Zone PK18 ---> BVP
Activator ---> ????

Zone line doesn't really count IMO for trickle down because it is still high end product.

Hell, Brunswick could just re-release the Danger Zone and it would sell.

Hmm, the BVP core has already had solid (Nemesis), pearl (Rampage), and pearl particle (Ambush, isn't the Quantum Navy cover PK18-based)? Heck, Goliath is probably PK1-based as well. What's left on the BVP core?

They don't have a polished solid yet.  Arguably the Nemesis could be polished and it would probably overlap quite heavily with the Rampage and Ambush.

It does seem pretty complete, and without replacing something, I don't see much room for improvement.  Still, they can't let it stagnate, no matter how good it is.

I am talking about the original activator coverstock! It is now impossible to buy a symmetrical core ball with it! Personally I hate asymmetrical cores they are way to twitchy for me. PK18 is a great cover no doubt but over the last 10 years since it was released there have been so many balls with so many different cores that a new PK18 ball would almost certainly be a close remake of another ball!

I would by a BVP ball with the original activator onit in a second!
Better yet bring back the original Inferno. Still my favorite ball and there just are not many left to be had. I know that bowlingballdotcom or whoever has a remake but the damn thing is PURPLE like every other ball on the freakin' planet anymore. Sorry for the rant I just really want another OI.

The purple/silver quantum is not an Inferno.

Maybe Brunswick could do a retro range like ebonite did and bring back some of the old classics!

I'd love that more than anyone, but I dunno about that ever happening without a distributor actually paying to have it done like in the past!

Nick- I realize that the Quantum is not an inferno. Everytime I start talking about a rerelease of the inferno someone chimes in with purple/silver quantum. I was making a preemptve statement i guess.

The Punisher and Goliath are definitely on their way out.  I think the Nemesis still has a couple months of life left, because the particle and pearl looks have both been replaced by the Ambush and Rampage.  You'd have to see another solid come out before the Nemesis is retired, I think.  I doubt the BVP line is done, remember how long the Monsters went on?  The BVP line, IMO, is even better than the Monsters were, they really seem like performance balls, whereas the Monsters were slightly more noticeably midprice options.

Well, nevertheless, the Punisher and Goliath ARE on their way out, as we have been assured by a Brunswick rep himself.

From Brunswick's website:

Goliath’s High-Load Particle coverstock is the result of extensive R&D and six years of particle coverstock development.

As I have said before, the activator coverstocks in general have been a huge welcoming for me. . .as for the zone and BVP line, i have really wanted to try a rampage or a vapor zone the most. like nick said, i would hope they dont discontinue the activator coverstocks. . .

Well, we've had trouble getting the Punishers, and were told by Ron Bragg that it and the Goliath were on their way out.  Never heard that about the Nemesis though.  We've got the state tournament at our house, and we've been running a special on the BVP balls.  Well, we haven't been able to get our hands on more than 6 or 7 Punishers, and they're backordered from our distributor.  At least that's the way I understood it, that's what the boss told me he was told.

Bring back the Combat Zone and Tracer! PK18 solid and pearl. Or use the core of this ball (no Asym) and wrap it in Activator (original) and re-release. Sign me up for 2 of each...

The Combat Zone was PowrSurge, not PowrKoil 18.  And I'm pretty sure the core is just reused from the Danger Zone.

You could buy an Elite Alien... that's just it.

Whoever is looking ro an OI should try to get hands on the current Hyper Zone S.

Wondering what is coming up in the BVP line. IMHO, the name is not very good, does not sound as flashy as a "Monster" ball. I hope they come out with a different core, or at least variations of that bell core with higher/lower RG.
Maybe we see some Aggressive Reactive again (remember the Fuze balls)?

Good point. Did not catch that up front. So that gives it more options:

-Use PK18 Solid and Pearl with the old core (same specs I guess as original Danger Zone only colored Green for Combat/Tracer)

-Use Activator Pearl with the old core for the Tracer and do NOT make it Asymetrical (as in all the current Zones)

-Use Agrressive Reactive from the Raging Red Fuze on a the core for a more updated version (2002 instead of 1997).

-Simply re-release the Combat Zone with original PowerSurge coverstock.

I could spend $300 on an Alien online or drill one from the shop for close "cost".....or I could order/drill 3 BVP/Zone balls instead.

We have an Alien at the shop currently (actually all the Elite balls for that matter) and have sold only a couple based on the fact that they are too spendy for most customers of the fact that nobody really knows much about them around here. May end up trying to sell them NIB on ebay this summer depending (or on here if anyone would be interested probably around $200 shipped to cover costs at the shop).

The distributor around Louisville, KY has some Rhino PTE's, which is a Speed Zone remake.  I'm thinking of picking one up.  When I can get my stuff at cost from a local proshop, $70 isn't a bad deal.
