Monster SmashR
« on: October 10, 2004, 11:44:08 AM »
Due to this website deleting old posts I cant get any good info. I have a SmashR,  pin next to the ring finger, cg slighlty to the right, weight hole even with center of grip, 6 inches to the right, surface is dull. What type of reaction should I expect, and where in the bag should it fit? Right now, I am using: Depth Charge, Hot Rod Pro Stock, Original Inferno, Blazing Inferno, Deisel Paticle, Hawk (polished), SlayR.

Also, Should I keep this ball dull or polish it?

Thanks,
Glenn

Since it's already drilled, why don't you take everything out to the lanes (hopefully with at least a medium oil pattern) and throw them all side by side.  Instead of us guessing based on your stats, you'll know exactly what each ball does, and whether any ball might fit better with a surface change.

SmashR, Depth Charge, Inferno, and Deisel PArticle should all handle roughly the same oil.  Concentrate on how each of these balls move on the lane and you'll have your answer.

Strider, your'e absolutely right. Since I don't have a chance to pratice often, that is why I asked the questions, so I can get a heads up. The next time I go, I will do exactly that with ALL my equipment. Should I just play striaght up the second arrow, and then mark down how far down the lane the ball hooks, which hooks the strongest, etc?

Play anywhere you might play in sanctioned competition.  Straight down the first 3 arrows, a tight swing from inside, a few deep angles, use your imagination.  A typical house shot usually has a pretty good mound of oil in the middle with drier outsides.  You get the advantage of seeing how well each handles oil, how hard they bounce off of the dry, how they handle that transition...  You might be pleasantly surprised that although they handle the same amount of oil, one ball might open up the lane better from deep inside, while another plays well straight down the gutter.  You're experimenting to learn, so don't even look at the scoreboard.  Look to see how soon each ball breaks, make a note of how sharp the backend is, what carries best when played tight vs. looping the lane, how each carries on a hook-set or fall back shot...
