Nick that's a great video! I was wondering, can you do that in league? Like change which weight hole you use? If so that would be sweet!

Prince... Axel Foley would smack you for saying that about his theme song!!
What I saw on the lanes were similarities between the xhole down and the flare increasing, as well as between the flare decreasing and xhole up. They both had similar paths to the pocket, but one was always better suited for a particular angle of attack.
Out of the bunch, the flare increasing was definitely the strongest, with the mildest being the xhole up my val.

Just more ways we can use the same ball with different drillings and yet they all have different reactions. Love the video, what you should do is a ghost video of all 4 balls in motion to show just how different each shot really is.

Awesome Vid Nick. Just what I wanted to see. I have a question for you though... I want to put a flar reducing hole in my Radar. It has 3/4 side and 5/8 thumb. The pin is under the ring, so If i put a flare reducing hole in, i will be taking more finger out, which won't allow me to use a decent sized hole. Can I make the 2 1/4" mark inside my PAP, and draw down under the midline to place the whole, and still maintain the reducing affect?

Traumatize,
You might run into trouble with too much thumb weight, but if you do, just drill the thumb deeper. Sometimes it is tough to use certain hole locations with certain layouts. You can manipulate the depth of the gripping holes to accomodate most though!
Draw a line from your pin through your pap, and thats where you flare increasing and decreasing holes go.

Nice vid Nick.. I'm looking forward to the cg video was well... but then again all of the non-believers will say that you didn't throw the ball exactly the same between the two shots.. or claim that they can see a difference...not in the ball reactions, but in the pin carry..or something else totally ignorant.
Anyway, nice vid.. keeping all of us informed!
Thanks,

Nick, Great Video and Helpful! Now I getting rid of all my balls Then drill one ball just like that. Sweet!
-
For this ball, the X-Hole up seems to give the mildest of the reactions. By placing the X-hole there, you are effectively lowering the bowtie (hard to tell since the track flare is so minor) Basically, it is the opposite effect of putting the 2 1/4 Down the VAL.
So to answer your question, either go down the VAL or Flare Increasing.

Perhaps you can get James Earl Jones to voice the next video for you.
I wonder if anyone would say anything during league play if you brought that ball in and adjusted teh X-Hole on the fly...

Nick, what are you using for the weight holes? it looks like turbo duo color slugs. it looks like you are locking them in place some how, but not with switch grip.
how did you pull that one off?

Magic.
Drilled a 3/8" hole into the slug about 90%, then drilled a 1/8" hole all the way through the slug and into the ball itself. Then used very coarse sheet metal screws and tapped them into the ball.
(ok, so not so much magic )

The question has been asked and yet there hasnt been any answers yet.....
Is this legal for competition use?? If so this could really be handy to the more experienced bowlers who know what kind of reaction they want.

I don't think it ever could be legal to use in competition...
For one, you can see the weights aren't close to being under an ounce.
2, You'd have to come up with a different locking mechanism without holes drilled in the slugs. You'd have to be able to lock the slug into place and take it out easily.
Metal screws I used are a no-no.
Not sure on the rules about voids underneath the slugs...

wow, u have a fast server. I downloaded this at over 1mb/sec on my fiber optic line. Anyways, the remix of the audio is a bit better and easier to understand, though the music is still a little distracting. But that's probably due to my pickiness. Overall, another great video. I may have to try out Brunswick again in the future as my only impression has been the Radical Inferno, and that ball seemed very hit or miss for a lot of people.

Nick, just a couple of quick questions for you.
Is there some particular reason that you chose 2 1/4" as the distance from your PAP for the four x-holes?
Finally, would you get an even stronger effect by keeping the flare increasing hole 2 1/4" past the VAL, but also dropping it even lower, maybe an inch or two?

Yes, as per Brunswick's drilling instructions.
quote:
Are the flare reducing and the flare increasing holes on the mid-line, or are they on the same horizontal line as your PAP?
They are on the line drawn from my Pin through my PAP.
quote:

You have to take into account that when you place a hole in that location, you risk the chance of flaring over the hole. With higher rev players, this becomes more of a concern. If I were to use an Inferno or Zone (or even a Wizard with a 3 3/8th drill) in this test, I might have flared over it. I wouldn't advise going more than 2 1/4" past the axis for flare increasing. There was a video that Brunswick put out a little while back showing this, I think it had to do with the CG/X-hole tests they did for USBC.
