I've got a 234 average, does this give me the right to critique his game? Eric's style is very safe and lends me to believe that he doesn't get fooled by a condition very often. It's tough to get in too much trouble with a style like that. Combine that form with a little accuracy, and voila! Good job, Eric.

thanks John, I appreciate the kind words.

My game has translated very well to other patterns besides THS.

Keeping it simple makes it easier for me to make adjustments without complications.

Now, if I only worked 1st shift, so I can get on that PBA pattern league...

I honestly thought you'd have been better than that after you made comments about others. Form, approach, swing, and whatever else all vary in bowlers. Just because one form looks worse than the other doesn't meen much. All depends on how you stay consistent with it and practice. I know there are plenty of things I can work on in my game, but I'm not going to bash someone who is trying to get better.

In todays game it doesn't matter how you get to the line as long as you can repeat it and do it the same way everytime.

the more elements and flaws you put in your approach, the more difficult it will be to repeat the entire approach over a 36 frame set.

Especially in a bowling alley as EASY as Boulevard Bowl.  Try bowling in Ravena and see what you average.

come on down, play on the 1st shift shot.

all this is becoming is a dickwaiving contest, contribute to the thread constructively, or dont post.

So when someone says you're not as good as they thought you were they are an A**???

Looks like a huge double-standard, especially when you bash Frank and others.

Fact is we are all working on our games, trying to get better.

The forum is getting to the point where no one gets any accurate help because it takes too long to read through all the bashing and nonsense to get to the real help.

Everyone should take a step back and try to be helpful and keep the bashing to a minimum.

The best thing I can suggest is just getting out there and bowling on as many conditions as possible.

Your game is fundamentally fine.

The problem most people have is that when they get on something they are not familiar with, their confidence in their game drops, decision making slows down and second-guessing oneself occurs.

Get out there, get experience, learn to make decisions quicker and trust your instincts.

My experience has been that while I am wasting 3 frames wondering if I made a physical error in my game, the "Real" Pros are making adjustments when they trip a 4 or send a messenger, in order to stay in the pocket longer and carry better.

I 100% agree with you, if I didnt work evenings, I would already be in a PBA pattern league during summers.

I dont lose confidence in my game, because I respect the game and understand that I will never master it.

I'm merely a student, looking to learn every time I go out there.

Personally, a straighter game like mine SHOULD translate better across more difficult patterns than big swing boomers, I dont rely on the THS wall, thats probably why I dont put up HUGE scores regularly.

my speed is pretty steady between 15.5 and 16.5 MPH.

my crutch in the past has been my spare game, but I was shooting with resin then for my spares, this season ive been shooting plastic, as I figured that this will only benefit me when patterns get more difficult. 1st half of the season was very trying with plastic, getting used to the straight line without hold on the edges, I'm still gaining confidence in it, spare percentages have been down compared to resin, but shouldnt be long before its back up over 95%+ again

I respect your opinion, and will do my best next season to find a tournament/PBA rotating pattern league.

Thanks,

Eric

His comments towards Frank may have been a tad on the "brutally honest" side.  However, he merely stated what 95% of us were thinking.  Eric, along with a host of others on this site, have tried to work with Frank over the past few months.  Instead, he continues to dump large amounts of money on the lastest "game-in-a-box" release instead of listening to any of the suggestions and ideas that are forwarded his way.  Some of the best coaches in the country aren't big average bowlers, but really know their stuff and will find a spot on a competitive team when there's a tournament.  Eric may not have the grocery list of honor scores on the resume but I'd bet you a dollar to a doughnut he's not gonna weigh a team down.

If a bowler really wanted to "show off" and post a video of themselves in action, they'd have to show several different shots with different conditions and a variety of equipment.  With numerous deliveries and entry angles portrayed, you'll be certain to find the better bowlers.  I could post a vid of myself.  However, when I record a practice session, I have the camera facing towards the approach and manually record the result of the shot on the score sheet.  I, then, match up the footage from my notes to tell the whole story.  Besides, how much fun is it to watch a bowler bounce it off the cushion with the lastest equipment?  Chicks may dig the big banana, but it won't make me a better tournament bowler.

Johnny, I never bashed the "Frank" vid. Check the post.

As for my comments, that's what I think. Mega is what a 20? avg bowler. And what is Frank....17? ish? For all of us out there be honest, is it harder to move your average from 170 to 200, or 200 to 230? That's my point. Your form can be horrible and you might not repeat shot after shot, but getting from 170 to 200 just means making more of your spares. Going from 200 to 230 means carrying more strikes. IMHO, Mega is more advanced than Frank, but is someone who averages 230 way more advanced than Mega. It's not right for anyone to bash, whichs sucks about this forum lately.

The only time average should be used when comparing two bowlers is when they bowl on the same condition.  I'm able to experience the good life up here in God's country and carry a high average.  However, put a 20? average bowler that's used to tougher conditions and can replicate shots and read transitions on our league shot and it's probably gonna be lights out and the differential is equalized.

kinda like how John (230-n-up-or-bust) equalized me in fantasy football this season.

seriously though, I've RARELY missed the pocket this season, carry has been a real killer, the pins seem dead to everyone I've spoken to about it.

The higher average bowlers in my league, 220+, play straighter on the 1st shift shot.

Control balls are a must in keeping lined up.

John helped me out last week, suggesting playing up the twig to keep away from "the human zamboni", a teammate of mine who 2 finger sprays a black urethane hammer.

257 the first game with my PBA Original Inferno, IT WORKED!

i failed to make the adjustment in the 2nd game, 183.

then got back on track, using carrydown to my advantage with my absolute inferno in the track area for a 223.

there is always something to be learned, sometimes it takes someone else to go over the same idea to make it happen.

thanks go out to John for game planning with me.
