Post by: LuckyLefty on November 16, 2010, 02:10:13 AM
My son has liked the Red Zone for awhile....

The Classic Zone was the first one with this core. There''s actually two versions of the Classic Zone. The original green pin ones that had an Acivator+ cover stock I believe(or it could''ve been Activator). The red pin ones hooked less and used the cover stock from the Punisher I believe.

The Vapor Zone also used this same core and was a stronger ball overall.

I still use my green pin Zone Classic.  It has well over 1000 games on it and it still is my most consistent ball in medium oil/3rd games on heavier oil.  Awesome ball.

The original classic zone had original activator on it.

Other balls with that core were:

1. Vapor Zone
2. Impulse Zone
3. Strike Zone

I believe it was also used in the overseas Racing Zone and Comfort Zone

re core...AND I believe the RED Zone...

My son has looked real good with the Red Zone at times but it has started burning at times early...

Ah....so classic is Vapor with a little less backend.  Sort of like comparing the Inferno vs Absolute inferno but in Assymetric!  Ahhh..

I think he''s gonna like this green pin..

 And yes, the red zone.

The way you talked, I thought you already knew that one and even had one.

Strike Zone = Red Zone. Same ball different colors..

Classic Zone is the pearl to both of these (well, as close as it can get, anyways)

The impulse zone was a very good ball.I must have had 250 games on it, gave it to my oldest son he threw it for 3 more years. The ball hooked more for him then it ever did for me. Ball was a pin crushing beast!!!

Yep....from what I am reading the Strike Zone was just a dull version of the polished Red Zone.

My son''s Red Zone is now dull and it does not have the backend of the Strike Zone''s I saw in its day.  However it could be his roll...

It is sort of his control ball for medium heavy volumes.  The Classic looks similar for him but a little more push and a touch more backend

He has some balls that really jump off the spot from other companies.  But his Red Zone has garnered some nice sets for him.  With a very predictable move.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS the classic looks like many more to come.
PPS Thanks for all the helpful comments above...

Red Zone = Polished Strike Zone. Both were great for me.

Zone Classic needed more dry, but it was good. Vapor Zone was awesome!!

Vapor is a quicker response cover stock on same core as the Classic....right?

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS similar to the relationship between Inferno and Absolute inferno on the symmetric side?  No?

The Vapor used the cover from the Absolute Inferno, but with asymmetric zone core (if my memory is correct). So yes, it's like the Zone Classic on steroids due to the stronger cover.

There was also an Elite ball with that core - the RS48. Looked like a ZC, it was a light oil ball and is probably a similar thing to the ZC Red Pin (maybe even the same ball - my theory is that leftover production was just labeled ZC Red Pin).

I sure remember mine. Shot my highest series( so far ) with it back in 2004. 289-289-269 for 847. Great ball, great reaction, great carry. Averaged 233 for the whole season with it.

I deffinatly think they should reuse that core in an upper mid priced line perhaps. It was so versatile for an asymmetric core, I love every ball I had with it. I still have 4 CZ and a RZ that i will never part with. They all get some league night use every year and one CZ is always in my tournament bag.

Somewhere in this post you mentioned Classic = Inferno and Vapor = Absolute. That is a great way of thinking about them. The difference the asym core makes is more angle off the spot. Classic (GP) was Activator over the asym zone core. Vapor was same core but Activator+. Both of these pieces were among my favorites. I still have both and a NIB Vapor just waiting in the wings.

The Rattler uses the Inferno cover with a different (but very effective) core design.

I am currently using my Wild Thing, Classic Zone, and Vapor Zone as my main choices out of the bag. The Wild Thing is the weakest of the 3 for me, probably based on drilling. I have a buddy whose Wild Thing goes crazy.

The Classic is still my midrange ball. The Vapor is a step up.

I have NIB Wild Card, Python, Anaconda that I'm hoping will have the same types of gaps between them.
