Comparison of these Light Oil balls...
« on: September 16, 2008, 12:44:08 PM »
I know that both of these 2 balls are a couple years old... but I am wondering how much weaker is the Power Groove DRY/R than the regular Power Groove Reactive Pearl?

I have got a chance to buy a NIB 15lb DRY/R for a steal... but I am just wondering how much weaker is it than the Regular Dry/R?

I have thrown the Regular but never the DRY/R.

I wonder if it would fit right below the NEPTUNE, or would it be WAY TOO WEAK to be the very next step down from the Neptune (and would another ball actually be able to fit right between the DRY/R and Neptune)?

I know both the DRY/R and Regular Power Groove Reactive Pearl have the same Core, but I have heard reports that the DRY/R's coverstock is SUPER weak and the ball has NO backend at all, and I would like to have at least a little bit of backend at least.

Thanks!

The Dry/R is really a step down from the normal PG, which is IMHO pretty strong. The Dry/R fits IMHO well "under" a normal PG (had one, know both balls, but sold mine after a few games because it was a production turd that flared backwards...).
The Dry/R's coverstock is very weak/smooth, you should see less overall motion and a softer breakpoint with it than with a PG drilled the same. How it compares to a Neptune I cannot really say, I have only seen 2 Neptunes in action up to date and not used one myself. But again, I'd guess that the Dry/R fits under it, too, because of its high RG that pushes the ball well down the lane. I woudl not call the Neptune "rolly", but due to its true core it gets into a roll sooner, so I'd consider it a medium-dry ball, like the PG, and the Dry/R as an option if the line fades away.

Does the DRY/R have pretty good hitting power and CARRYING ability?

Thanks!

I know a lefty that had a Dry R drilled up. Believe it or not this ball had more hook you could imagine. The backend on this ball was unbelievable. From what I saw, I would not be worried about this ball having hook at the backend. Weird what dizzi said, I have a particle groove the flares backwards also.
