MikeFagan and his Grip
« on: February 19, 2006, 02:52:37 PM »
i know that he use this grib to lower rev on the ball on his approch.  my ball is finger tip drill and wondering if i can drill a 4th hole for my ring finger like tradition drill
i use photoshop to show how my 4th hole would be.  if i bowl with the forth hole will the ball go longer do to the change in the location of the pin.

click on the link i photoshop the picture for how the 4th hole would be

So you wanna have 2 ring finger holes?  I agree with ragnrk, I think they would be too close together and it would result in one big hole.  Also, if you were able to do that, you wouldn't be allowed have a weighthole.  In theory, you could argue that the unused finger hole was a weighthole.

i have very small finger so if i did do the drill my current hole should not have an effect on the 4th hole.  will the extra hole do anything to the performance to the ball?

If it didn't have a weighthole, you would be fine as that hole could be considered a weighthole. Plus, you won't feel the back of the hole so even if they touch, you should be fine.

But, having said that, I wouldn't try it until you've talked it over with your pro and tried to find out how it will improve your game (if it will help at all). Just because it works for one guy does not you need to try it out.

The grip will also probably change your pap, causing the pin to be in a slightly different location relative to that. Not a big deal, shouldn't be a big reaction problem, but don't do this on a ball you throw regularly. Just use it as an experiment if you do this at all.

if i do decided to try the second ring finger hole my pin placement will change.  would the change of the pin make the ball go longer? the picture link is up at the top

Sure you could, isn't the rule 6 total holes on the ball?

4 finger holes, 1 thumb hole (all have to be occupied of covered by a finger), 1 vent hole for each grip hole and an extra "balance hole".  Total 11 holes.  Vent holes cannot be over a certain diameter (1/8 inch isn't it?)

That drilling supposedly cuts down on revs, but I think if you get use to it you can get just as many revs.

I believe Robert Smith stopped using it for that very reason.  Found it didn't do any good.

wouldn't it depend on how much work your ring finger is doing with fingertip. If you get most of your lift from the ring finger it probably would lower your revrate quite a bit.

Depending how strong you are with your fingers, you can get just as much lift with the conventional hole vs. the finger tip hole.  These guys have such strong hands that nothing really retards their hand action that much at all.

But, if you are still lifting with the ring finger, that pretty much defeats the purpose of the grip.

No, because the *true* purpose of the grip is to relieve ring finger tension.  Normal people find that it will reduce their rev rate since they can't lift as well with the conventional hole.

I use this grip in order to create more forward roll. I feel I still get about the same rev rate, but with a more predictable breakpoint.
