Title: DOT warranty reduced from 4 years to 2 years?
Post by: 3835 on March 29, 2020, 07:54:25 AM
Was looking at the new Prism Warp on Brunswick’s website. Saw the Ball had DOT advertised with only a 2 year warranty. Original Prisms have a 4 year warranty and I believe every other DOT ball has a 4 year warranty. At least my NIB Verge sitting here says 4 year warranty. I didn’t see any announcement reducing future DOT balls having a reduced warranty. What happened??

Maybe one of the resident Brunswick apologists will come on and tell us again about their amazing new technology.

Gotta shorten that, so their new carbon fiber warranty will stand out.

But it has "...Durability Optimization Technology (DOT), a patent-pending advancement in bowling ball technology. DOT enhances the durability of your ball..."

OR perhaps "...features Brunswick’s innovative outer core technology called DynamiCore. This industry-leading technology is a more durable outer material that yields less compression upon impact increasing hitting power and creating an undeniable difference in sound and pin carry..." offsets DOT, because when it hits like a truck, that's tough to handle. That "undeniable difference in sound" probably sends such shock waves through everything that if the ball DIDN"T have DOT, it would just explode into slivers, but WITH DOT, it's good for 2 years.

Durability, brought to you by Brunswick. :o

On a brighter note though, if you wait about a month after release, you will be able to buy the ball for half-price or less at a lot of shops.

Granted I have a ball over 20 years old I still use from time to time, but how often do you have a ball as your favorite go to ball more then 2 years? The ball will usually still be useable longer than 2 years. But I bet most of you probably buy a new ball on average every 2 years anyway. So while a four year warnty is nice Hammer was 3 before Brunswick took them over. 2 years is probably sufficient. Balls that have been on the market more then two years in a lot of cases are hard to find  never been grilled anyway if the bell was released more then 2 years ago anyway. So you won't be getting the same type of ball anyway.

I agree  4 year warranty is nice. But if the ball is more then 2 years old already you probably already are looking for a new go to favorite ball anyway, or if the ball surfers damage that the warranty would cover odds are its going to happen after the ball has already been retired so you would be getting something else, or the same type of ball, but used off of eBay or something like that.  So probably between 90 & 90 percent of the time. No matter which ball is your go to brand. Storm, Brunswick, Motiv and all the rest a 2 year warranty on a brand new never drilled out of the box bowling ball is in most cases sufficient, or at least it should be.

I am sure market research has shown that the average league bowler even the ones with higher sport averages probably purchase a new ball on average at least once every 2 years. Some might try to go 3. But most its probably at least one new main ball every 2 years. Some hardcore bowling ball junkies might by 2 if they bowl on a lot of different lane conditions.

Right now Buddies Pro Shop has the 2 original Prisms and the Vapor Zone Solid on super special sale. You get free drilling and free shipping. Prisms are $120 and the Vapor is $90. Plus my 5% off coupon still works. When was the last time you could get a high end ball less than 6 months after introduction for $114 shipped and drilled????????

Yikes

More and more it seems like Brunswick needed EBI not the other way around.

Limited availability on 14 or 15lbs only.  Im getting the Prism pearl.  It's below any proshops cost with free shipping.  No one out there can match those prices without losing $$$. Both Buddies and Bowlersmart run some deals local shops can't touch.

Back in the Ultimate Inferno days, I attempted to use some Brunswick. I had an Ultimate Inferno, Intense Inferno, Nemesis, and Power Groove. The Intense was horrible. Gave it away after 1 game. Ultimate hit like a wet fart. Nemesis was just meh, and the PG was the best of the group.

Then I tried some Morich. Felt the same way about the Awesome Hook and Revs. Now they're together.

I will say this. I had both original Prisms. Really liked the Solid. Had the Squatch Solid. Was my go to ball until....the thumb completely cracked out. Ironic. Also had the original Closer. Really good ball on lighter patterns or broken down stuff. Had all the Conspiracies. Liked the hybrid. The rest....meh.

I was told they did that to streamline the warranties at the company. B/c having products that have 1,2,3,4 year warranties would cause nothing but headaches.  I think the DOT tech. is pretty solid but when you buy out your only competitor who had long warranties who are you competing against now? It doesn't make sense to offer 4 years when everyone else remaining is 1 year.

I understand the desire for 100% transparency but if it were you would you try to sell what is still a better warranty than most by saying "hey, sorry but if you would have bought this a few months ago you could have gotten a 4 year warranty!?!?"  It makes sense not to draw attention to it.

This doesn’t matter, with literally millions out of work good luck explaining to the ole lady that you’re spending a few hundred bucks on a bowling ball.

And quite frankly Brunswick could have a 15 year “warranty” I still would not buy that trash.

Easy fix here, just go dig up some old computer boxes and stuff the balls in said box. Problem solved.

Agreed all of my older bowling balls still roll just fine. I actually never had to have a ball replaced because of damage to the ball.  Actually my 20 year old plastic ball made by ebonite which has a noticeable nick in it. That has been there probably about 19 and half years.😄 But I still use it because it has always just been primarily a spare ball. Sometimes it will get a little action as a strike ball on a real short pattern like the wolf, or if I am doing late night cosmic bowl.  The nick which looks more like a small chip is no where near the ball track, or even close to where the ball was drilled. So I keep using it. I don't remember what the warranty was on it.  I got it back in 97 or 98.

As for buying a new ball. I did back in February. Unfortunately after getting in 20 games with it Covid shut down all the bowling centers. So its just sitting on the floor in a two ball roller. in my room.

Unfortunately even if the centers reopened tomorrow. I don't know when I will be called back to work.😟 I have one of those jobs that have at least temporarily went away because of covid.  I can only hope my company survives this, and  that I have a job to go back to in the next 5 or 6 weeks.🤞🏻 If I don't I won't be able to bowl regardles of rarher or not the centers are open or not.😟

Well.....maybe the warranty is still 4 years. Just saw a Warp on eBay with pics. Box clearly says 4 year warranty.  Guess either something changed and the warranty was reduced to 2 years or someone on the web team needs to fix a mistake.

Oddly enough.  When I moved down to Florida a few years ago; I came to the quick realization that the backends here are stronger then what I was used to in Atlanta.  I am guessing humidity and older centers probably play in to this.  But I have been able to pull out some old stuff like a Dry Heat and Original Hammer 3D Pearl and they roll good down here.  I even shot 299 one night during open play with the 3D.

Lets be honest here. The warranty doesn't matter with their brands. I could rebuild my arsenal every 6 months and pick up like 4 balls for $50. They drop so fast and so low.
