Equipment on Todays Telecast

Brunswick made a good showing today - 3rd, 4th, 5th. Some observations if I may be permitted:

1. Anyone who needed a definition of 'my ball burning up' only needed to watch Jason Hurd throwing the Raging Inferno. You just can't throw a strong particle ball on a conditon without lots of head oil and a long enough pattern. And I don't care who you are, if you have to cover that many boards AND bring the ball back from the edge, that surface isn't going to get the job done. Inferno would have been a much better choice. Even a dull Inferno if you really think you need some surface. I still haven't found a shot with enough oil to throw my Raging Inferno. Seems to be an oil shortage everywhere I go.

2. Looked like Lonnie was throwing a Bruiser. It looked great when he threw it well. Just didn't look like he was sharp today.

3. Brad Angelo - Too bad he didn't start with the Inferno. It's just a perfect ball on most shots where your shiny reactive is over-reactive and your particle stuff is burning up.

4. Storm was in the hand of the winning bowler, but you really can't credit the 'Ball' when Max-Bob is slinging it. He could score with just about anything. Simply an amazing thing to watch. There ain't much you can do when you're facing a Monster like that who's locked in except pray that he gets stone-9'd to death or leaves a "four through the face" somewhere along the way. Must be incredibly intimidating, although nobody would ever admit to that.

Which Zone did Angelo start with?  I couldn't see the other side of it, but it looked like a Command Zone ARC.

Ball speed seemed to be important on that condition.  Every time I've seen Jason Hurd, his ball speed seems too slow for his rev rate, causing whatever ball he's using to overreact and snap through the face, or burn up before it gets to the pins.  Machuga's ball speed kept the ball on line, and allowed him to turn it up without overreacting, at least in his first match.

As for Maximum Bob, what can I say?  The guy is simply amazing.  The most amazing thing is how he gets that ball to deflect properly to avoid stone 9 pins.  Awesome performance, even though he did miss a 10 pin!

i think brad angelo started his match with the time zone---too bad he didn't start with the inferno as his reaction seemed better. lonnie was throwing the monster bruiser---he looked good but.....jason hurd made a wrong ball choice i think. too much friction for 35' of oil. a great start for brunswick----with chris barnes winning the japan cup and three(3)pros on the telecast today using brunswick.

Yeah, Angelo was throwing his Command Zone Arc.  I agree with you about Jason Hurd, however, the ball was recovering on Friday and Saturday, in fact it was recovering for everyone.  The first shot he threw on the show today surprised me, I thought it was a great shot from what I saw yesterday.  Another point, Hurd needed time to get going in the round of 16 and 8.  He never threw the ball very well the first two or three matches, but when he got locked in, he slaughtered Walter Ray and Bryon Smith.  I never thought it was the best choice for him to throw, but like I said, after two or three games, he didn't miss, and he won 2 or 3 in a row each time to take the match.  Lonnie threw a 300 with his Bruiser yesterday against Steve Hoskins right out of the gate.  He was playing in between 2nd and 3rd arrow out to about 2 or 3.  It was simply amazing, although no, he didn't look sharp today at all.  Brad Angelo had the same problem yesterday.  Tried to start out using the Arc each match (16 and 8) and ended up switching to the Inferno and finishing things out from there.  I don't even understand why Robert Smith switches balls.  He throws so hard with so many revs that he's got to take the first 30 feet out of play, which was nearly the length of the pattern.  He could make anything between urethane and particle do the same thing.  Go long, snap and drive.  Rick Benoit mentioned that a lot of the pros like to throw dull balls even when they're dry because they have a need to control the midlane.  If you can get a ball to roll before the backends and either roll out or set into the pocket, you completely take the backends and accompanying carrydown out of play.  Makes a lot of sense when he explains things.  Good observations, Randy.

He might have made it work all week, but that don't make it work today (Story of my life).

Anyway, Hurd has at least 3 more fingers than I do. I throw the ball a lot more like Brad Angelo that any of the other players out there today. I can't even throw it like Smith when I'm dreaming. My arm would snap off at the elbow.

Only got to see the first half of the telecast, but I tend to agree that Hurd had the wrong ball. He had to fit in a very small area. If he got it out it didnt come back, he got it in, and it took off. Smith was throwing a Boost, Lonnie a Brusier, Mike a Turbo Diesel, and Hurd of course that Raging Inferno. Didnt get to see Angelo throw or the finals but from what I have read it was good. Ironic how they were talking about gutter balls this week and they said Lonnie threw about 10 of them during the week, then he ended up throwing the only one on the show. Oh well, hes a great bowler in my book and has loads of talent. From what I saw, great opening show.

Rev-O.....I saw that on Storms website too,...but it certainly didn't look like a Boost under the lights....it looked to me like it was a Shock Trauma...oh well...........I'm glad Storm posts that kind of stuff on their site.......

It was a shock Trauma in the last game maybe the earlier also. We had paused our tape and it clearly stated The Shock Trauma logo. Looked almost like a label drill.

LHT, I would have to agree based upon what I saw, but Storm is saying he used a Boost........."whatever"

I'm willing to bet it was the Boost all show.  I'll have to look at the tape again, but he never used the Shock Trauma at any point on Friday or Saturday.  It was mainly the Boost and Deuce.  He threw the Hot Wire and Tour Power a little on Saturday as well.  The Shock Trauma's a pretty dark ball with pretty bright logos (not to insult anyone's intelligence, but I had both the Shock and the Boost), and he appeared to use the same ball in both matches, and I know he started out with the Boost.  I didn't get to see much of the last match, so I'm not going to offer a definitive opinion before I check it out.

Didn't catch all of the last game, but the whole first he was throwing a boost, and looked like a tour power on the fill ball.
