Ive been trying to tweak my OI to fit between my Smokin and my Scorchin, but its not going very well.
The Smokin is oob with the pin above the ring with the cg stacked.
The Scorching is pin under the ring with the CG kicked out a bit.
The OI is pin next to the ring with the CG stacked.

I left the Smokin and Scorchin in oob. The OI I tried polished, but the reaction was almost identical to the Smokin, just a smidge less length. When I sanded it down to 400 it was rolling out and was a hook and set reaction. I had the proshop put the rough buff on it, but they didnt take it down to 220 instead put it right over the 400 sanded finish.

Im really unsure what to do next and could use some ideas, even if that means pluggin and redrilling it.

So far all I can think of is to get it sanded to 220 and have them put the roughbuff back on. Or get it sanded to 1000 without polish.

The only other thing I can think of is that the ball is 14lbs 12oz, and the other two are 15 and change, so about a 6 oz difference max. Perhaps this is enough difference that its causing problems?

I'd try a high grit sanded finish, something between 2.000 and 1.000 grit. I found that such a finish lets the ball read the lane very clearly when it finally hits dry ground but prevents it from being jumpy - still with a good length through the heads.

A 220 base Rough Buff might work, too, but the sheen sanded finish is eaasier to maintain at home and easily abjustable. I'd start with 2.000 and check the recation. Mabye the finish without a polish is already enough to make the OI move differently from the SI.

The drillings sound O.K. to me, I would not change them.
Maybe think about an X-hole to fine-tune the OI's reaction in one or the other direction? That might be a easy option, too, but you will need a ball driller's help who knows your game and PAP.

i got the best results with my inferno when it was wetsanded 2,000 grit. this eliminated the over/under when the ball hit the oil and kept the ball from hooking too hard when it hit the dry.

As like the others, I got the best out of mine when it was neither polished or roughly sanded.

Had mine polished, but it would skid and never hook. Had the shop run over it with a grey scotchbrite pad and got my reaction back.

OI is a great ball, but really needs that correct surface. All in all, I think I would try about a 1000-1500 wetsanded finish and see what happens. If it reads too early, go up in grit to 2000-3000. Much over that and I think you would start getting a skid/flip like the smokin again, but I could be wrong.
