First ball ever
« on: August 19, 2003, 01:36:44 AM »
Hello,
This is my first post, so don't flame.  If I need redirecting, etc., just let me know.

I just started my first bowling league last night, and it's too much fun!  My friends got me to play in this league with them as a fourth, and at the end of the league we all get an Attack Zone ball.  I ordered a 16 pounder since I'm a pretty big guy. 6'3" and 230 lbs.  I lift weights everyday and play a bunch of other sports.  I guess my question is this:  Is this a good entry level ball to start out with?  I'm 28 and I am working on hooking the ball.  I'm not consistent, but will this ball enable me to become so, or is it mainly a straight ball?

I've been online all day, and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

First question - which attack zone? I find 3 of them on Brunswick's site.

Go to http://brunswickftp.com/Product%20info/Ball%20Comparison%20Chart%20Jun03.pdf
This chart will give you the relative performance for all Brunswick balls. Go to the 4th page of the .pdf file to find the attack zone specs - it's not actually on the chart.

If you REALLY want to hook the ball, this is not going to do much for you. But if you want to learn control and accuracy to start, with the hitting power of a reactive/urethane/proactive(particle) coverstock, this is probably a GREAT intro ball.

My bad.  I made a boo boo.  It's the Target Zone Glow Series, blue/green/silver.  It looks pretty cool, and I know it has a low hook potential with a relatively long distance on it.  I guess with a low breakpoint (30), I should start a hook earlier?  Maybe start more from the left side of the lane?

Forgive my expressions, I'm not sure on the numbering of the boards, etc. just yet!

your ball is a plastic ball---not much hook unless you're on dry lanes and have a lot of revs. it's fine if you want to just have fun. for a serious ball you'll need to upgrade to urethane or reactive.
