Title: Found A Gem On The Rack
Post by: MegaMav on February 21, 2006, 02:16:44 PM
15 Lbs. Combat Zone Tracer, slight hairline crack around 1/4 of the ring finger.
bowling center guy let me have it for free, i just got a ball spinner, so it will be good to experiment on.

how bad can these cracks get, if its just a hairline?

just needs a resurface and it'll be good to go.

220 grit on 4 sides?
anyone know the original grit base before polish?
whats the method?
top, then flip to bottom, then flip to the side and flip again?
i think i have 60, 80, 100 grit sandpaper also.

then it'll match the 16 Lbs. Combat Zone Tracer i have now.

That ball rocks!

I'd plug up that area and drill it differently. Once they start, it only gets worse.

Mega,

That is pretty cool.  Yikes, by hand resurfacing.  Thank god for our Haus machine.  Seriously though, you shouldn't have to use any grit more than 180.  When we did resurfaces by hand, we never went higher than that.  Usually depending on how bad it was, we always started with 180, then 320, then 800, then polish if needed.  It always worked very well for us.  I would do exactly as you said except for on the last step go back to putting the fingers up and flipping to the other side with whatever you need to leave the ball at gritwise.

Good luck!!!

Who needs a 300 or 800, when I have a 294 and a 295!?!?!

Nick,

im going with your advice

here are the prospective before/after pics, with new layout.

my current CZT layout picture is in my profile.

i dont think the top weight is much in the new one, the finger holes are now drilled really shallow.

you can see the hairline fracture that goes to the edge of the pin.

I dunnnnoooooo about that layout...

I'd be more inclined to redrill the ball so the pin is under the bridge, cg out. Heck, in certain rush cases, I've used the existing thumhole as my xhole.

what would make you choose a pin under bridge layout nick?
ive always wondered what the CZT would do with a 1L drilling (or close).

did you take a look at my other combat zone tracer layout?
i typically do very well with pin over drillings or label. (med-low revs)
average PAP 5" over ¼-½" up

so, you're suggesting pluging all the holes then?

im unsure if any of them are pitched up or down, from what i can tell there is no lateral pitch to either finger hole, they may need to be plugged regardless.

i thought it would be convenient to reuse one of the finger holes.

this is something that will be drilled in the offseason, so there is plenty of time to debate what im going to do with it.

i'd like to keep the plug work off my track, which is typically 1½" left of my thumb hole and 2" left of my middle finger.

whatever you say nick, will happen with this ball, with approval of course.
you and i are part of an elite fraternity of CZT users.

i think we may have a winner!

here is a different layout, i think this is what you had in mind Nick.

what can i expect from this layout compared to the CZT that im using now? (in profile)

will use thumb as an x-hole.
