Title: fresh out of nationals....
Post by: BrunsBrent on February 19, 2008, 06:42:03 AM
just got back from new mexico and the USBC open. it was a good time, met some cool people. if you guys plan on going out, make sure you say whats up to the guys in the brunswick booth and beans over in the lane #1 booth. as far as bowling, did well the first day during team event starting out with a 244. theres a shot out there if your keep your line tight in the middle. i was playing 17 out to 12 with my blast zone. if it goes outside of 10, its flat out not coming back. had fun, did a little gambling. hope you all have a chance to make it out there, quite an experience if you havent been before.

I've heard the shot was similar to Reno last year?

Reno was very open compared to the two other years I bowled it. I wish I would have performed better. Swinging the ball wasn't hard last year.

Lol a little more open?  I remember it being soft for a tough shot, even though I guess I did only have a pair of boards to work with.  This could be good . . love shots through the middle.  Would you say about the same oil volume as Reno though?

BrunsBrent,
Did you see anyone playing up the outside during your squad? I have read a few posts of people saying there was a shot going straight up the ditch. And based on the oil chart, the 1 board is clean, if that is a correct rendering. While I don't mind playing the middle, I shot 1950 playing inside last year, My A-game is going straighter. And I do enjoying playing up the ditch as well, but while I see posts every year about the outside shot, it never seems to be there when I get there, lol. Just curious.

i saw a couple guys trying it with charcoal surfaced stuff. they didnt seem to do too well, maybe it was just the bowler though. it made it to the pocket okay, sometimes.other times it was just a 2-8-10 or a wash out. but try it out in team event during practice. but you gotta make that decision quick weather thats the line you want to attempt

BrunsBrent,
Thanks for the info. Just a couple other questions, I know I'm a pain in the arse....

Did you bowl the BTM, BJI, and/or the Sport Challenge while you were there? And if so, any fedback on the shots for those? Thanks again.

i didnt bowl in any of those, i hit up the 40 frame game out there for kicks, had a good time with that. my buddy derek bowled the sport shot challenge and shot 428 which was good enough for the daily payout of $250. i wasnt there to watch him but i know that the pattern they used there is 2 feet shorter than the open shot so theres a little more dry to see a ball reaction.

Brunsbrent,

I don't see it in your profile and I don't know you personally. So I'd appreciate it if you could post something of your style, delivery, and release specs, in order that I can tell if how you played the lanes would apply to me at all. Thanks.
