Just a guess...

Seems like the Fury Pearl will be a Radical Inferno on steroids...sounds familiar.

Regardless of how you explain it, there are still people that look for attractiveness. A ball like a Double Agent may fit their game great, but they still don't want a ball that looks like a blob of crap.

Shelf appeal does have a lot to do with selling a ball, especially to impulse buyers.

you never fail to amaze me. just like the website you made it if looks like crap nobody is gonna want anything from it. even if you have experience it cant compare to somebody who has been drilling balls longer then you have been alive.

its a consumer market, which means you give the customer what they want, if its a certain color so be it.

i hang around in my local proshop alot and i have seen somebody pick what ball they wanted just because they liked the smell.

alot of bowlers don't know or care what coverstock/core combo are in bowling balls, they just want something that looks good (or smells good) going down the lane.

i have talked to some very experience ball drillers and what they have told me is if the customer asks for something that you know is wrong you recommend for them to get something else, if they still want it tell them one more time, if they still want it, you take their money punch holes in it and send them on their way.

i don't know of any proshops that turn away business just because they think that the ball a person wants doesn't match up with them well. Pro shops don't usually make alot of money so why would they turn away customers? All the drillers i talk to say that if the customer is happy that is all that really matters.

it might just be me but when i think of a zone i think of the an awesome ball with a mean aggressive look. logos like the zone pro series, the time zone, demolition zone, danger zones, red alert overseas balls, azure zone, things like that. i hate the way the strike zone, red zone looked, and now they bring these soft looking kiddie balls out. i am sad.

Kinda hard to determine that for sure off of a chart though.

The ball is ugly and looking at the chart of it, theres nothing that special about the ball. The length isnt that great, the hook isnt that great and the break shape isnt "off the charts" either. I'll stay away from this one.

If I understand you correctly, you have no interest in a benchmark bowling ball, and only deal with stuff that offers a weird reaction.  The Black Widow for instance would have been a poor ball in your opinion, it went fairly long, hooked a bit, and really didn't cut on the back, so I guess it was bad.  I, as well as other competent bowlers, don't consider any of the criteria that you mentioned beyond what implications they will have in the building of an arsenal.  In my opinion, a great majority of bowling balls are good.

The only things that I believe to make a ball better than another is perhaps continuation, and though rather obscure, hit.  Beyond that it is a matter of how a ball fits into one's arsenal.  Even the criteria that I consider to make a ball better than another may at times work to one's detriment.  I, for example have a Radical Inferno that I have never really liked.  The ball happens to be very hook set.  On a typical condition, the Absolute Inferno or my Black Widow would be better.  They offer similar ammounts of hook, but are more continuous.  I recently ran into a condition where the backends were really running.  There, the AI and BW were both apt to leave 4's, 9's, and at times the unfortunate combination of the two.  The RI on the other hand seemed right at home.  Though the AI and BW are better on most shots, the RI has its moments and in the right situation is a very good ball.
