Fuze Detonator vs Raging Inferno
« on: September 15, 2003, 09:11:43 PM »
I just picked up a Detonator from Ebay for $70 (w/shipping). How does this compare to the Raging Inferno as far as hook, and oily conditions?

I had the Detonator and cleaned it after each set and it died out after about 30-35 games. Its basically a 10 pin ball now. I would not recommend buying this ball. I hope you have better luck out of yours.

I have not thrown the blazing inferno, but from what I have read, its gonna hook alot more than the Detonator.

A Brunswick staffer recently told me that the Raging Inferno is a few boards stronger than the Fuze Detonator, notably in the midlane and on the back end.

Back when I was considering the Detonator, a Brunswick product specialist told me to wait for the Raging Inferno instead.  He also said that the Raging Inferno is five-and-two stronger than the Inferno.

Hope this helps.

I've both of them and I've compare them side by side. The Raging Inferno in box form is hook as much as my newly resurface Detonator, so if you dull it up, for sure it will out hook the Detonator.

And for some bowler said their Detonator and/or Swamp monster died out after some games. All you need to do is get the oil out of the ball, since they are high load proactive and they eat up lots of oil. Every time after I use it, I clean it with Track's Clean and Dull, then the surface will back to normal (dull color) and it still hooking strong. After around 50 games, you should resurface it with trizact to bring it back to box form and then it act like a new ball again

I figured for the price, it would be a good buy. What types of drillings have you put on this ball to make it aggressive in oil?

I got a detonator with a 5x5 I believe with a small weight hole.  Has had maybe 100 games or so on it?  I'm not sure though.  I got it resurfaced recently, and hooks just as much as it did new out of the box.  I usually cleaned it after every three game set I used it in with a particle ball cleaner.  As for reaction, it makes a very strong midlane move.  Overall, it has served me well, and continues to do so.  If this thing dies on me I will probably buy another off ebay for they are quite cheap on there now.

I put a lot more games than 35 on my Detonator without any particular cleaning regimen. It mellowed from being very aggressive, but was still moderately strong.

I agree with Bob. I'm probably pushing almost 200 games without a resurf (pro shop was temporarily out of business for 4 months) and it is still a decent heavy medium/heavy oil ball, but not as good as it was fresh out-of-box. As for the drill pattern on it, I don't know all the "official lingo" but here goes. The ball has a 3.5-4" pin placed directly above and between the fingers, topweight unknown, and a weight/flare increasing hole on (or very close to) my axis. With this drill the ball is very smooth in the midlane with a strong arc movement on the backends. Hope this helped you......

Guy in my league, fairly wet synthetics swears by his.

4 inch pin out drilled like 4 by 5.  Label lev sort of with cg down slightly and kept dull.

He went something like 244 268 235 last night.  I thought last game was going to be 290 but he frankly tightened up.

Great looking ball in movement.
