Hello, I am new here and am looking for a new ball for the Pro-Am tournament in Taylor Michigan. I currently throw a Columbian Spirit 1, I cant really measure my stats, but I start at 15 board, finish at 17, hit around 8-10 board and hit just below the pocket, or just over. I am a righty and am between a cranker and a stroker, and have a mid speed.

I am looking for a ball for mid to wet conditions. Which of the balls do you think should I go for: Inferno, or Raging inferno, or, which ball is a good step up from the spirit 1 (mostly looking for a mid-high oil, plastic lanes)

The above info reflects, at best, a single instance of bowling, maybe a single frame. It cannot possibly reflect a even a whole night's 3 games sequence in an average league. If it does, perchance, you do not need another ball, because you are on house shot that is most accurately called, "Funnel Bowling". It is called such because no matter what you throw or where you throw it or how you throw it, the oil pattern sucks the ball to the pocket. This is the "Game" of bowling, not the "Sport" of bowling.

Based on this paragraph, I would suggest the Raging Inferno, because it is a fairly strong particle pearl ball that will grab the lane earlier than a Spirit or even an Inferno (a much stronger ball than a Spirit). So, if you are talking aboutt a "true" wet oil pattern, the Raging is the choice, among the balls you have specified.

Just be careful, because if it SEEMS like heavy oil, it could just be that, 1)your style does not put a lot of revs 2)you have a weak ball, that just SEEMS to not turn. If you get a particle thats too strong, you will just have wasted 150-200 dollars.

And why would I "saw" pins in half, THATS A WASTE OF PINS! I'd rather blow it over with my storm, and 21mph ball speed on dry shots.

ok, I do get a fair number of revs (I am guessing that you can count revs by the # of streaks of oil left on the ball when it comes back. In that case, 6, but I am prety sure this is flare)

I carry a 170 avg. and yes, the boards are for my "base" shot, this is exactly where I throw for any legal shot. Thank you for the input.

Revs really cant be counted by the # of rings on the ball. The ball will travel over the same path a few times before beginning to flare.

Judging by your previous statements, my guess would be the same as Charlest's, you probably don't need a new ball.

That being said, if you're really worried about not having a strong enough ball for the pro-am, then you should look at the Raging. However you will probably be disappointed if you begin to try using that on the house shot you're using the Spirit on. Almost without fail, if the lanes are dry enough for the Spirit, the Raging will roll-out.

If you really want to get ready for the pro am, I recommend going to practice at as many different houses in the city as you can. Switch up the times that you go too. Find a house that doesn't oil after their saturday night moonlight bowling & go sunday morning to expose yourself to what carrydown feels like. Find a place that has 2 large evening leagues (preferrabley "majors"), then throw a few games after they're done to expose yourself to fried heads. Just try to get out of the house you bowl at as often as possible. Also, change up the proprietors you bowl at, don't only go to AMF's or or Brunswick Zones. Heck, if you can find a small 8 lane house, try bowling there too.

The key to your success at the pro-am will not necessarily be the balls in your bag, but being able to adjust to anything you run into.

I do avidly bowl in every bowling ally, in my city, and at various times too (I have about 6) and usually squeez in 18 - 20 games a week.

The best I can describe it, I asked my coach and he said that for that kind of ball I would need to stand about 40 board and hit, around 20 (on my league's lanes, the legal shot most oiled is the one with the 2 heavy lines on 1-5 board fading in.)

Also, for a two fingered ball (a back-up shot I used at family twosome) is any ball recommended?

The reason I wanted to switch is just because I want a ball that will finish really strong at the back, but that I could still control a fair amount.

My spirit will be used as a spare bal or just for dry lanes.
