Title: Goliath layout
Post by: loose5682 on December 29, 2004, 12:07:48 AM
BrunsRick, BrunsRich, BrunsBob, Nick Smith, anyone involved with Brunswick, or anybody who knows layouts for that matter, I'm looking for a nice strong, even layout for my Goliath.

My stats are medium ball speed (15mph) with above average revs and a very smooth release.  Been described as a "ridiculously high-tracker...i mean really REALLY high" by my driller.

Looking for something that I can use on medium-heavy to heavy patterns, basically going to be my oil ball here.

Much thanks in advance!

If your a REALLY high tracker, your PAP is probably like 6" right.  Do you know those coordinates???  If you are a high tracker that means the pin needs to be above the fingers or kept very high in association to them.  This is necessary to keep the ball from flaring over the thumb.

Usually, a high tracker has a very end over end roll.  So, the ball will read earlier and react smoother.

I would just follow the suggested layouts for this one.  Depending on your RPM rate, I would suggest 1L or 2L.

Andrew,

I would start with about a 3" pin. Place the pin above your ring finger and swing the CG out about 1 1/2". Place an extra hole 4 1/2" over and 1" below your center line. This extra hole placement is to help raise the bowtie of your track up from your middle finger a little. Use enough hole to bring your positive side weight back to around 1/2 ounce. If you end up with a little to much finger weight, just drill them deeper until you get it down enough. After throwing the ball, adjust the surface to create the distance down the lane as needed. I have seen this ball roll really well for someone with a similar style to what you described after taking the surface to 1500 and then polishing it.

Wait and see if you get responses from anyone else that may have already drilled and thrown this ball. The drilling I suggested is relatively safe for most styles (and works), then surface preparation finishes it off.

  Best of Luck,

Andrew-not sure the coordinates of my PAP, next time I have some practice time i'm going to measure that out.

Inverted-you are very correct, I'd rather not this ball be TOO condition specific, but this is basically going to be my oil ball.

BrunsBob-I'm more than likely going to go with your suggestion, i've had balls drilled similar to this and really liked the reaction.  When you mention swinging the CG out about 1 1/2" should I put it on the midline?

Here are pics of the ball, looks like about a 3" pin...

Andrew,

If indeed it is a 3" pin or similar, don't worry about where the CG is in reference to up and down your midline. Just remember to double check your finishing weights after the hole is added to insure your legal. Like I mentioned before, go deeper on the fingers if you have too much finger weight.

Happy New Year Y'all,
