I am not sure which is harder now, but the Columbia Blue Dot is also quite hard.
The clear balls may be the hardest, yet, but I haven't looked them up to see for sure. This post is subject to correction by anyone with the "hard data".

Yes, some of the old originals were EXTREMELY hard, but the new ones being manufactured today are little different from the white dots. Maybe a point or two harder, but nowhere near as hard as the originals were.

It was, but to increase the durability of Blue Dots Columbia started lowering the hardness to the same as that of a White Dot.

I don't know when they made the change, but if you can find one in good shape that was manufactured prior to Ebonite's buyout of Columbia there is a good chance that it is one of the harder ones.

FWIW - Many still feel there is something added to Blue Dots that does make them slicker/straighter than the White Dots.  They do cost more than White Dots, so I hope that's true.

L/LM had the Arrow which I believe is now discontinued. That was 81-82 hardness.  Most of the clear shell spare balls are similar in hardness to the Arrow.

storm used to make the spare storm...it was rated 90 hardness. the old blue dot from columbia 300 was rated at 88.

I think there would be a market if someone made a ball that truly did not hook and went dead straight.. a ball made that would hardly hook on stripped lanes...not sure how but I'm sure it could be done..

I still use an OLD (30 years old) Blue Dot. The problem with them is that they chipped badly around the holes. I have had mine plugged and redrilled a number of times.

I inquired with Colombia a few years ago and they admitted that the newer Blue Dots had EXACTLY the same cover as the White Dots. Why they still sell it as a separate item is beyond me.

However, I agree with Juggernaut, the Ice Storm is the hardest ball out there. Looks good, too. When my Blue Dot finally gives out I will buy an Ice Storm.

The ice storm is probably the hardest.
