Help! Ball Drilling for a Srike Zone
« on: December 14, 2005, 11:05:13 PM »
Ball Speed: 17.5-18.5
Rotation: Tweener more up the back

Currently have a BIG problem with 45-50ft shots...

Any suggestions for a pin/drill pattern? Any help would be nice!

I had mine drilled with the pin below my ring finger and the mass bias to the right and below my thumb (rt. handed).  I guess it would be about at 10:30 on the clock face.  It rolls very smooth and has a steady arc most of the way down the lane with a good strong finish at the pins.  I don't have a lot of games on it yet and haven't bowled on a flood with it, but I absolutely loved it my first week with it in league.  Will be throwing it again tonight looking for my first 800, that's how much confidence I have in this ball!

I'd also suggest a pin placement under the ring finger, maybe kicked out toward PAP to get a strong recovery on the long oil. Placing PSA at 60-90° should give you a strong backend finish - the closer it is to the thumb hole, the sharper the reaction will be and create more backend (much like mogators descriobed). To get it into a controllable, arcy roll, I'd suggest a 75° position.

Additionally (and I'd try this in the first place) you can tweak the coverstock a bit. Maybe sanding the ball to 600 or even 400 grit will give you a better/earlier read in the long oil?
