Quick question. If you have to match this ball with a Motiv ball, which Motiv ball would be the closest to this one? Sigma Sting maybe?

I assumed you were making light of the often asked question about which ball from one company compares to a ball from another company.  Especially since this ball is not even released yet.  And also, it seems like the Sigma Sting is often the answer provided no matter what ball is being compared.

No, at this time I wasn't joking... I was just wondering, and just from watching the video it looked to me like the ball had a similar motion to the Sting, that is all.

It is very weak on today's lane conditions.

I think the original LT48 would be pretty weak on todays conditions as well.

How does this ball take to surface changes?
Will it roll well if I knock off the polish to create a dull pearl?

Post by: BrunsNick on January 31, 2015, 03:04:31 AM
I haven't tried to knock the surface down on Goldy, but I have adjusted the Fortera Exile and it works best with 2000 grit. I'm sure once I get on some patterns, I'll do the same.

Interesting in many aspects.

As far as the original LT 48 (rubber)being weak on today's conditions, yes I am sure so.

As to the Reactive LT 48, I had it....no it was a beast!

As to this goldie ball!  Ah, after seeing Nick's video and the specs of the ball and its cover and his drilling I get it!  A hot strong pearl!

I have the LT 48 Vintage pin way up and it is big on the back but not enough flare for my taste!  But still Big!

This one intrigues me because with this pin under middle this goldy ball reminds me of an IQ tour Pearl that is drilled stronger.  Very smooth and hopefully cheaper with more drilling options.

Looks like a winner!

Regards,

Luckylefty

Just like the LT, I will drill a couple of these and get the most out of them. Love everything about this ball... The cover, the nostalgia, the reaction shape.

Nick did you try the LT at 4000 abralon? I just resurfaced mine to that but haven't got to try it out yet.

I hit my pin up LT with 1000 and my pin down with a light 2000 by hand. Still super clean, easiest ball to read.

the vintage lt-48 is the best ball ive chucked in 2 years, did it 5" pin with 80 val and a small hole 2" down from PAP, 4000 spinner, it reads the midlane early and is ubber smooth and controlled on the backend while covering a bunch of boards, continues forever...super easy shot with known friction the ball will flat kill it ...would have loved to have seen the same core on the rhino for me personally but ill just drill out the addition flare from the increased diff, cant wait for this piece

I remember the Rhino Pro series very well.  The Purple Rhino Pro was the first reactive ball I ever threw and it was impressive.  The rest of the line also was really good.  Seeing the Gold come back with an updated core/cover should do really well (although bringing the original light bulb core back would have been really sweet to see).

All of the Zone balls from 04 - 06 where amazing balls. The Time Zone and the Vapor Zone were two of my favorites. Hopefully they release those along with the Inferno with the Vintage line  ::)

I don't know but I think the Time Zone and the Revolution ECX shared the same core.  I owned both.

The Time Zone was good but the ECX....oh my.....One of my all time favorites!  I just loved that coverstock wrapped around that core....Sweet!

Why did I ever trade it away!?

If Brunswick had been smart they would have named their offshoot brand Zone.  Not many people that didn't like at least one of those balls.

The Warp Zone......they remake that and I will be buying their entire inventory. That might be my favorite ball of all time.......Its sister ball, the Almighty, was my all-time favorite until my purchase of the Mystic Aura!

Brunsnick,

I am still intrigued with this video and the roll of this ball.  In comparing specs this ball is much higher rg and quite a bit more diff. or flare.  I am sure the yellow doesn't hurt!

Yet the way you have this setup, it reminds me of the IQ tour Pearl.  If I may, what are your specs?  ie pap and what is this drilling?  You know...dual angle and all that.

I realize this ball could be set up in many more ways to get dramatically different and usually bigger reactions.  My Vintage LT 48 with a strong pin up is very big late!

Do you see this setup as looking like a IQ tour pearl with your setup and specs on this ONE?

Luckylefty

LL, you are going to get the PC answer when asking a salesman to compare his product to that of his competitor.

Not to speak for Nick, but there is a very good chance he hasn't thrown any competitor's balls since he went to work for Brunswick, or at least none that weren't behind a closed doors test.

Its,

Maybe you are right aobout what he will share....but maybe he will show his PAP.

That may give me an idea of how he created this particular roll.  BrunsNick?

Sure 4 1/2 x 1/2 PAP

I use this drilling on a lot of balls, it's 5" from axis with a 65 VAL angle. First angle didn't matter a ton, I just didn't want an extra hole to start.

And no, I haven't thrown any competitors balls.

Nick,

As always Thanks!  Great video and great information.

I have now seen 3 or 4 different videos of this ball with multiple drillings!  It looks like a very versatile piece that a lot of reactions can be created from!

Looks like they should have remade the Teal Rhino Pro. One just sold on ebay for $305 plus shipping. And a Purple sold for $207 plus shipping. Maybe they need to remake the entire line!

Maybe we will one day ;)

For me, the Gold rolls earlier than the Platinum Ringer. This one is better suited for a little more oil with its stronger core and cover.

Being the Storm guy that I am it kind of shocked me that I would immediately fall in love with a ball from Brunswick. This ball is stupid angular. And lets me play areas of the lane I normally would not be able to. Definitely an A+ ball

Several thoughts,

Those old Rhinos with their .22 diff often don't have much except on the freshest of backends.  IMHO.

The new Vintage series I think is intelligently adapted to today's conditions with their higher diffs.

I note frequently the diffs seem to be increased slightly for many lower medium to medium diff balls like the diff series when they go to pearl.  Probably some of our very knowledgeable ball reps out here know why.  I would guess it is some trade of traction from the tires versus flare from the engine downlane that is needed from Pearls.

As to stupid angular I note the OP Brunsnick video where his drilling made it move almost like an IQ tour pearl drilled pin up(the way they look in my house!
Very midlane and smooth.  It sounds like based on drilling this ball will be very versatile.

Regards,

Luckylefty

ball is crazy angular, drilled my first one up with 5" pin and 35 val angle and it was storm angular and clean, did a 2nd one up 5" pin and 70 val with a hole 2" down the val and im in love with it, still very clean and angular but not overly so
