No Review of the Blast Zone in Ballreviews
« on: July 31, 2007, 08:08:05 AM »
Just saw the magazine and I just thought it was odd that they reviewed the Sidewinder but not the Blast Zone. I like to take all information into account before drilling a piece of equipment and I was kind of looking forward to reading what they had to say. Anyone have an idea why it was not reviewed?

I have a pin up 4 1/2 pin to pap and cg stacked ball with no weighty, i hated the ball on a top hat shot it is an over/under nightmare. I use it a real lane condition with a 40 ft blend and the ball came to life, very strong and angular ball when there is actually oil for it.

It is really a pretty good ball stronger than the sidewinder by about 3-4 boards and for a ball that needs oil a very angular backend. Probably from the hybrid cover and the energy retaining properties of the OI pearl that was used.

Here is my breakdown for you haha

Blast Zone

Oil-9.5
medium-8
dry- are you stupid???? Why try it

Sidewinder:

Oil-7
Medium-9.5
Dry-3.5 but only if you can move in alot

Bye.

I don't know why, but would expect it in next month's issue of BTM.  This time of year there are lots of balls hitting the market at the same time in preparation for the season starting.  Maybe they haven't had time to do enough testing, yet.

I plan to throw mine one more time tomorrow night on a different house shot before I do my own (less informative) review.

I think some of the Sidewinders were hitting the Pro source shops just slightly ahead of the Blast Zones. BTM has a deadline probably at least 2-3 weeks ahead of mailing. This might explain it.

I have a blank Blast Zone and Secret Agent sitting in the box in my office that I bought 3 weeks ago and can't bring myself to drill them. I have 11 bowling balls in the back of my SUV and have to do some weeding out first.

Did I just write that I have 11 bowling balls? Damn, I gotta find a cheaper hobby like golf

5" pin to Pap below fingers
45 degree MB
Spin time 5 sec

At first I left it in OOB finish with no hole. The cover was suprisingly strong. The reaction was good but the flare rings were too close together and I wasn't getting enough continuation through the pins.

We drilled a 7/8 hole 1.25 down on my VAL, and I hit it with 1000 abralon. The spin time dropped to 4 sec and now the ball drives through the pocket.

The lanes were broken down pretty bad, so I moved into 5th arrow swinging out to 7-8 board with a very steep angle. The ball recovered very well and carried on the break down.

I like the motion to the pocket with the old Phantom core. This one will stay dull, and I'll punch out a high pin Blast with polish to compliment the early rolling hard hitting low pin.

Richard, I think you need to stop killing the Hawaiian language and yes, I do multi task.  Someone here needs to help you.  God knows what you'd do without me!

"Kahamina, Musabi & braugh"?  You're killing me!  Here's the correct spelling for any visitors to our beautiful islands; Kamaaina, Musubi and Brah.

Gairon is doing well.  Haven't seen him much because he's been working nights.  I'll let him know you said HOWZIT!

Does the Blast Zone have more backend potential than the Sidewinder and the Fury?

Ooops!  Yep it is Ganiron, sorry.  Kanada is already 3/4 Katonk since moving to Cali so he's not a very good reference.

I have seen the blast zone and sidewinder in action. I have not drilled either yet but will. Let me say this about my observations of the blast zone. It is the most angular Brunswick ball that I have ever seen. Sidewinder really rolls smooth. Can't wait to drill mine.

I've had mine since Jr. Gold. I love it. I had it drilled to go between my Awesome Hook and Vapor Zone. It had about the same amount of hook as my Awesome Hook but went a little longer. It was about 3-4 boards stronger than my Vapor Zone and was about 4-5 feet earlier. I ended up using this ball on the long and medium patterns out of Jr. Gold. This ball for me is more arcy on sport shot. When ever I use it on house shot, it rolls out. I was talking to the Brunswick staff out at Jr. Gold and they all said that they are polishing them a bit. I have yet to try this, but I'm going to in the next few weeks.

yea, I will polish it to see how it works. I got two Vapors. One that is drilled to be arc and early at 1000 and the other to go long and strong with OOB. And the Blast is to be stronger than both, so I basically throw these three everywhere I go now
