I got my Raven Quantum... (Bad News)
« on: November 09, 2005, 05:10:32 AM »
it has a 3" pin and 4.7 ounces of top weight.
HA!
im seeing if i can get an exchange on it from bowlingball.com
anything you could do with 4.7 ounces of top weight?
i'd imagine the x-hole would be the size of a softball.

if you look at my profile i have pictures of layouts.
i have a slug in my absolute inferno, and im getting used to it as its my first slug...
yes yes, i was a thumb slug virgin <blushes>

anyway, i use inserts, and will get a slug if needed to get the bigger drilling hole.

i was under the impression that this ball is non-aggressive
but if top weight has minimal effect on reaction, then im not worried.

So long as you don't get the CG shifted too far from the grip center, it should be okay putting the pin next to the ring... I wouldn't go further than 1 1/4 - 1 1/2" MAX or else you'll have problems keeping it legal.

Sorry, skimmed thru that.

The layout on my Raven is pin over 5", x hole on my PAP.

if you take a look at this layout  ---> Danger Zone Black

the layout i have in mind will end up similar to that, pin in same location, and CG 1" right of grip center.
i measured it all out with a tailor's measuring strip on it.
im money on this layout.
would you recommend it with the raven?

so let me get this straight then, the CG punch is all about where the top weight is?

i was under the impression that top weight was the representation of how much the core is shifted towards the pin on the surface.

apparently not then, what is top weight?

Shift the CG that far in the Raven, and you will NOT get it back to under 1oz.

The cg marking will tell you the heavy spot on the ball. In Big B pin-out balls, the core doesn't shift much more than 1/8th of an inch from dead center.

so you're telling me, even though the CG would be 1" dead right of the center of my grip and the pin in the same location at the danger zone layout, that it wont get back to 1oz side weight?

i thought you said previously that the CG needed to be within 1¼"

From that picture, it looks like the CG is 3-4" away from the grip center.

Correct?
